Titan send iBP packing at G3

Titan are through to the semi-finals at the Gfinity 3 LAN following a 2-0 victory over iBUYPOWER (16-14 on de_dust2, 16-8 on de_inferno).

Starting off on the highly-favoured Terrorist side on de_dust2, Titan claimed bragging rights and won the pistol round and the two anti-eco rounds that followed. iBUYPOWER then strung three rounds together to make it 3-3.

The match was pretty much balanced at this time, with neither side able to stamp their authority on the game. In the ninth round, iBP showed a lot of complacency when they rushed Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt in a 3-on-1 situation, with the French player somehow managing to take down all opponents.

Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham then responded in convincing fashion by picking up four frags with the AWP, levelling the score on five rounds. The rest of the half pretty much followed the same pattern as the teams almost took turns to win rounds, with iBP eventually taking a narrow 8-7 lead to the break.

Things went from bad to worse for Titan then, as iBP executed a perfect mid push towards B in the pistol round and killed all opponents without losing a single player in the process. The two anti-eco that followed went to iBUYPOWER as well, who were now enjoying an 11-7 lead.

Titan then invested everything in the first gun round and went for a double AWP setup but suffered a huge blow early in the round as they lost Kenny "kennyS" Schrub in the double doors. That made things a lot easier for iBP, who, however, almost threw the round as they lost four players to Kévin "Ex6TenZ" Droolans, who was alone in a 1-on-5 situation. Luckily for the North American side, Titan's captain lost the decisive 1-on-1, otherwise that would have been a massive blunder.

Now down 7-12 and on the CT side, Titan looked like they had a mountain to climb, but little by little they managed to close the gap on their opponents and won the map 16-14 when the odds were clearly against them. The French team will have NBK- to thank for this victory as he was completely dominant in long, taking down three, one time even four opponents in this area.

NBK turning up the heat

Next up was de_inferno, with Titan, who were playing on the CT side, going aggressively in the apartment area, inflicting some serious damage on their opponents, with kennyS and Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux getting two kills each. After losing one eco round, iBP went for a buy, a strategy that bore fruits as Titan, who still had shotguns and Famas, were overpowered in A.

iBP then equalised the game on two rounds, at which point Titan won their first eco of the map, with NBK- picking up four kills. Lucas "steel" Lopes came close to winning a 1-on-3 situation, but he was taken down by Ex6TenZ in the final battle.

The North American side kept winning the gun battles but they were unable to string rounds together as Titan kept winning the eco rounds. In the later stages of the first half, Titan were simply far too hot for their opponents as they picked up four rounds in a row to take a 10-5 lead into the second half.

In the pistol round, Titan and iBP traded a few kills in A before kennyS found himself alone against two opponents. The French AWPer then planted the bomb in B and still took down one opponent, but fell short against the last man standing from the North American team.

Titan then went for a buy and rushed B with a couple of auto pistols and were able to catch iBP off-guard once again, this way breaking any momentum from iBP that had been built up with the pistol round. The French team remained in cruise control until the end of the match and eventually ran out 16-8 winners, with a 1-on-3 from Keven "AZK" Lariviere being the only positive that the North American side will take from this second half.

2014-08-03 13:46
You know that Titan has played de_season since CS:Source right?
2014-08-03 14:23
Titan suck on season because only NA teams played it @ ESEA&CEVO
2014-08-03 14:30
Ever heard of Titan player is CS:Source player and they play de_season?
2014-08-03 14:47
de_season almost hadn't been played on in Europe
2014-08-03 14:55
Oh god CS:source and CS:GO is the same game i said Titan has played de_season which mean they did it in early day before they go to CS:GO. Because de_season was a popular map in CS:S.

IBP can only win in states it seems, come eu and get dominated every single time.
2014-08-03 13:47

2014-08-03 13:50
And EU teams can only win in EU. All of "our" teams got dominated by IBP in the states.
2014-08-03 13:53
actually only Virtus.pro and OverGaming lost to iBP at ASEA
2014-08-03 13:58
Virtus.pro, NiP, Titan, Na'Vi, OverGaming, have all lost to coL at ESEA LAN in NA
2014-08-03 22:10
well they only played overgaming and virtus and eu teams won esea often enough in go history. ibp seems to really struggle here.
2014-08-03 13:58
Not by IBP, but by coL.
2014-08-03 13:59
"dominated" is a big word imo, they lost close games against a VP that had tons of troubles.
2014-08-03 14:12
Nip has won like 2 or 3 ESEA LANS=? xD

2014-08-03 14:20
Titan should have lost the first map, but what a choke by IBP. 5 rounds on T side inferno should have been enough, but they got eco'd twice or more. IBP threw the game, could not close out any half. Really happy Titan got through though =)

2014-08-03 13:48
I think iBP played really good on de_dust2. I think they could be really successful here in Europe if they only can get their mental game together. They obviously can't close a game. And they aren't playing good at all playing from behind. If they get their shit together I hope they'll do better in Cologne!
2014-08-03 13:48
Only team that will do better in cologne is Cloud9. They have played more LANs outside amreka then IBP.
2014-08-03 13:51
We'll see. I don't think Cloud9 can do as much damage without Swag, but time will tell I guess!
2014-08-03 13:53
How can you say that?, cloud9 beat VP, NAVI and NIP in ESEA LAN without Swag. It is well known cloud9 plays better vs EU than IBP.
2014-08-03 20:33
Better luck next time guys, you played well!

2014-08-03 13:49

2014-08-03 13:50
ibp used to beat na teams daily so when it comes to eu teams they start blaming each other and get mad cus they're losing.
2014-08-03 13:51
you trolling? we blame each other all the time. EU makes no difference to us. Don't care if you're EU, NA, or some third world Estonian, lol.

2014-08-03 13:54
I'm not trying to defend iBP but g3 has been 80% upsets and amazingly close games. Wait till Cologne.
2014-08-03 13:59
ok, lets wait till cologne and see how NA teams are going to be destroyed by EU, ok deal :)
2014-08-03 14:01
you say that every time, and complexity comes in and sends your top teams home each day of the event. they placed top 4 at every 250k tourney
2014-08-03 22:11
I think the biggest upset is iBUYPOWER taking some games. Look at the bright side, iBUYPOWER placed better than they did in DreamHack, it's an upwards spiral!
2014-08-03 14:05
Are they upsets, or are the "lesser rated" teams putting the practice hours in for this event whereas some top teams have been slacking.

you just described an upset

Also IBP has been over hyped but keep in mind as a team they don't have a lot of experience yet against EU teams so if anything this tournament was a great learning experience for them in preparation for Cologne.

ex6 MVP of the series, ScreaM stepped up huge, NBK solid as usual, SmithZz did some really idiotic stuff that thankfully was covered up by solid play by his teammates. iBP, got some serious things to iron out. Cutting steel is a good start. Guy is clearly toxic.

I was even surprised yesterday that ibuyfail got out of groupstage with the way they played if they dont correct their mistakes soon they can just pack up and go home again like always still 2 weeks till cologne we will see but we can conclude they are not ready at this time to win against teams that preform good as they lost and drawed against "worse teams" then them (ranking wise)

2014-08-03 15:55
I missed this match, how was ibp's mentality during the game? Were they able to stay calm or it did dazed/steel rip on their own players?
2014-08-03 16:20
nah, they played ok, but swag and steel didnt look that awake, and titan played pretty damn well. all this stuff about rage is just kids catfighting :)
2014-08-03 16:38
I hope iBP does better at Cologne, they definitely showed themselves capable of beating top tier EU teams though. Iron out some kinks, work on fixing some crucial mistakes and the team will be set.

2014-08-03 18:19
Wp by Titan :) I did like iBP until I saw how much of a little kid Steel was being. He always finds something to blame even on LAN lmfao. Europeans have to give it to iBP, this is their 1st European LAN with this new lineup, and they made it to playoffs. I think we can all agree that they have potential and can show it. Strong showings against NiP and Epsilon. I think they can go places but they're still not on the level of the top-teir European teams.
2014-08-03 18:17
Every iBP match I watched, they won, every match I didn't watch, they either lost or tied. Sorry guys, it's all my fault. gg though.

Biggest problem with iBP that I've seen is not really talent, I think they have the proper amount of talent to go where they want to go. However, they are the only team I've ever seen actively putting each other down during matches. Body language is horrible, voices get stern and bitchy (steel). I've been a competitive player in the past and there was nothing I hated more than some loud, whiny guy who can't let go of things after they've taken place. -steel +solid american player w/o cancerous attitude. I think iBP would become more consistent immediately after that.
