dignitas to miss ESEA S17 Finals

Virtus.pro will be replacing dignitas at ESEA Invite Season 17 Global Finals in December, HLTV.org has learned.

dignitas finished the regular season in second place with a 11-5 record, having lost twice against both fnatic and Virtus.pro, and once against Natus Vincere.

The Danes' Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth however confirmed yesterday via Twitter that his side will not, once again, be traveling to Dallas for the Global Finals despite qualifying:

In fifth place as the first backup team finished Virtus.pro, whom HLTV.org have been able to confirm will be replacing dignitas at the Season 17 Finals.

We reached out to Virtus.pro's manager Christian Lenz, who gave us the following short statement to confirm their plans to travel to Dallas once again:

"After failing to qualify for ESEA finals, we got the chance to replace dignitas. There is nothing to think about, we are going to Dallas again!," Virtus.pro's manager Christian Lenz said to HLTV.org.

With regular season over in both Europe and North America, and dignitas now having been replaced, the following eight teams are expected to attend the Finals:

United States Cloud9 United States iBUYPOWER United States Denial United States eLevate
Sweden fnatic France Titan Poland Virtus.pro Europe mousesports

So far fnatic and Virtus.pro are confirmed for Europe. ESEA Invite Season 17 Global Finals will take place, after rescheduling, on December 5-7 in Dallas, TX.

2014-10-11 17:53
probably work
2014-10-11 18:21
i guess sponsership cos going to NA is costly and their sponsors actually are not From denmark but from UK... comeon 3 times in a row?
2014-10-11 18:24
dignitas has one of the youngest rosters so yeah, it probably is to do with school/work. And they didn't attend when they were under the CPH Wolves org either, so I don't think sponsorship is a problem.
2014-10-11 18:28
Do you even know what Dignitas is? They can *easily* afford to send them.
2014-10-11 18:33
No one on dignitas plays full time, they all work or go to school. It's a priority thing, you can't play counter-strike forever.
2014-10-11 18:59
Work. And its mainly me whois to blame, again :( During my 6months internship(part of a 3.5 years education) I have to take alot of days off for all events. Going to Dallas would cost me way to many days and the boys dont feel like going with a standin. We have 0 sponsorship issues as we could have gone with standins :D

I'm worried they'll get tired. Also other factor is pasha and his newborn daughter. With such a small kid there is hardly time for anything...

his wife is at home for at lest 3 months(?) and they have families so its not a problem for pasha.

Why can't i compare those teams? It just shows again how people jump on bandwagons without actually knowing things. Example: Did you watch G3 where mouz beat VP and almost fnatic? On top of that Dignitas didn't win a big LAN event with their current lineup yet.
2014-10-12 14:46
Dignitas is the nicest team & they don't forget work & school. I hope they will be able to finish school & focus on playing after. They have so many talented players, I hope they will win a major in the future. They are consistent but they have to step a little bit up to win the next 1.

"Qualified three times but never been there." So just ban them out of the league maybe? Give other teams a chance that are actually able/willing to attend.
2014-10-11 18:15
Erm, They dont actually deny anyone a chance... the team that ends up in 5th place get their spot...
2014-10-11 18:24
Yeah but maybe there's another team that's not even in the regular league now because of that.
2014-10-11 18:31
Are you thinking of a specific team? I can't think of one that would be worth watching over dignitas... even if they don't go to the LAN finals =)
2014-10-11 18:44
Just because it's on US soil means it has to have 4 US teams? :p -denial +NiP -elevate +HR
2014-10-11 18:24
...
2014-10-11 18:25
Yes it does. We need the game to grow in murrica, not just send over six european teams overseas.
2014-10-11 19:21
If you hold an international tournament, shouldn't it be a fair fight for every country? If they want to be biased then they should just invite every team instead of making them fight unfairly for the available spots :P
2014-10-11 19:31
ehm... ESEA US - 4 american teams qualify ESEA EU - 4 european teams qualify what exactly dont you understand?
2014-10-12 12:44
i dont see the point in being a team if you are not going to go to these events. surely thats the point? fuck work and school for a few days, how many people in the world get the opportunity to go to USA and play LAN as a pro cs player? hardly any. dignitas should be making the most of these opportunities when they have them, nothing gold can stay.
2014-10-11 18:26
They attend plenty of LAN's, just not those around the world with tiny prize pools. No one on dignitas plays full time.
2014-10-11 19:05
Esea is 20k for first place and 47k overall prize pool - more than g3, dhs, cph games, and sltv and almost the same as faceit and eswc (50k each).
2014-10-11 19:23
It probably costs around 5-10K USD just to attend (flights, hotel, food etc). Everything but a win would probably be a net loss, and a win is not that much either.
2014-10-11 19:49
work and school commitments hahahahaha fucking lan dodgers
2014-10-11 18:28

Pretty lame.
2014-10-11 20:01

Yeah but they will peek at majors and then rob anyone in quarterfinals to steal semifinal spot and then.... loose as always, semifinalchokers. But hey atleast they aint as bad as iBP when it comes down to big events (not some stupid cevo or small na event)
2014-10-12 07:28
i really doubt mousesports has the means to travel to US. ESEA better start looking for a replacement. And VP is the fucking best for not looking down on ESEA and coming pretty much every time now. <3
2014-10-12 06:57
VP has been my favorite team for many years now (including 1.6) . I had faith in them when they played poorly at the beginning of GO and wasnt surprised when they won their first big events. They are the real champions of counter-strike in my eyes. VP FOR PREZ KURWA KURWA
