Virtus.pro win ESEA S18 Global Finals

Striker

Virtus.pro overcame fnatic in the first best-of-three series 2-1 (16-14 de_season, 9-16 de_inferno, 16-13 de_cache) to win ESEA Invite Season 18 Global Finals and $70,000.

Starting off on de_season, Virtus.pro kicked things off with a nearly flawless Terrorist side, as they switched sides at 12-3. fnatic survived the first five rounds and closed the deficit to four only, but soon found themselves down 15-10.

Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer then picked up an amazing one-on-four to save fnatic from going down 0-1 in the first best-of-three, and helped them get to 13-15 with a triple in a two-on-three. One eco from Virtus.pro later, the Swedes finally gave in due to a crossfire from Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas and Paweł "byali" Bieliński for a 16-14 win.

The second map of the first series, de_inferno, went much better for fnatic in the beginning - at least after the map restart due to a caster accidentally dropping a kit for Virtus.pro, helping them win the first round.

With Jesper "JW" Wecksell's quad-kill and a one-on-two in the pistol, fnatic went up 3-0 before Virtus.pro climbed back with four rounds in a row in the bag. The Swedes' aggression was too much to handle though, as Markus "pronax" Wallsten's squad got to play as Counter-Terrorists with a good three-round lead at 9-6.

Virtus.pro win their second title of the year

Despite losing the second pistol, a response in the following round opened doors wide open for them, as they only let three rounds slip away also partly thanks to Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson's quad-kill at 12-9, helping fnatic tie the first series at 1-1.

Map three was set to be de_cache, and it was Virtus.pro taking a quick 7-1 lead as Counter-Terrorists this time around. Slowly but surely, fnatic started climbing back to have a chance on the other side, as they exchanged the next four rounds evenly before taking all three remaining for 6-9.

The second pistol round evened things out at 9-9 for fnatic, and a couple of gunrounds extended their run to six before Virtus.pro took a stand. With three rounds in a row for TaZ and company, the score was even yet again at 12-12.

Problems with money didn't help things for the Swedish side, as another two gunrounds in the bag for Virtus.pro put them on a very desperate buy, which was the last nail in fnatic's coffin.

Only 30k less than for winning a major. Is Valve going to do something or do they want random tournaments to have more prestige than the ones sponsored than them?

maybe bad word, but Valve sponsored tournaments should have A LOT bigger prizepools than private tournaments.

2015-04-20 01:36
ESEA lans are always not so big for the top teams. =) I feel they dont take them so seriously except the NA teams.
2015-04-20 01:39
We saw that in the results.
2015-04-20 01:56

2015-04-20 11:36
BUT its 70k$
2015-04-20 12:34
Come on. You threat Valve seriously? They cant even fix simple bugs with VAC auth and make proper anticheat for this game. Don't expect much from them, that much You ask. At the moment they dont have prestige at all.
2015-04-20 01:53
sticker money dude. only from stickers vp got at katowice 2015 like 400-600k (they are the most popular together with nip)
2015-04-20 13:02

2015-04-20 13:37
last year it was like ~250k for most popular teams according to articles so now when cs is twice bigger sticekr money are probably also twice bigger. also at katowice stickers were nicer than at uglu cologne and not nice dh stickers

If you saying like this. We should disband a lot of the teams . Every one apart of top 3. And any other teams outside top 3 who actually didnt win nothing at all or maybe 1 event every 12 months. So you wrong this time , its like football , Aresnal ,Chelsea , inter milan , ac milan , PSG , ajax amsterdam and more - lets disband them all - they dont winning nothing ??!!

2015-04-20 08:48
No they don't. Thats written in VP contracts.. 20% for boss.. Sad right?
2015-04-20 13:02
dont lie u idiot. their contracts are secret and the only info who leaked is all prize money in VP are for players and this is why VP has realitvely low salary in comparision to other orgs.
2015-04-20 13:09
VP does not have relatively LOW salaries. It may not be the highest, but its not low.
2015-04-20 13:34
in comparision to c9, tsm, envyus, nip, etc.
2015-04-20 13:35
VP are one of the highest paid at the moment..all this was known info when they signed a new 2 year contract, and yes the ORG takes a share of the winnings... NV are the highest paid...C9 paid high, but team is a joke
2015-04-20 13:37
wtf? what r you sourcers? btw. VP contract was the largest because it was 1st 2 years contract, not because the largest salary per month.
2015-04-20 14:21
I remember someone who was close with G2 on minise's fp said some stuff about contracts that they have and also was comparing it to vp salaries. He said that VP players have 2keuro/month. Don't know if it's legit though. You won't find any official info anywhere.

2015-04-20 07:39
"after the map restart due to a caster accidentally dropping a kit for Virtus.pro" What? Is there a video of this?
2015-04-20 07:54
Thank you. Very strange indeed.
2015-04-20 13:49
Why did they replay pistol when VP already won pistol and the following round? I only got to see VOD's and not the live stream. What reasons would they have to replay pistol? It seems very unfair that they took so many pauses then decided to just replay the whole match starting from there. Was there something going on with fnatic that would cause them to require restarting the match?
2015-04-20 08:09
edit: on map two, inferno.
2015-04-20 08:10
cosue pasha had kit and armor in pistol round. Kit was from dead admin wich went to spec mode after game stared and he drooped it so pasha wanted to be sneaky beaky but someone saw that porllly cosue of that this kit won them round :) Sry for my english hope u will underestand :)
2015-04-20 08:31
Pretty sure pasha picked it up without realizing it. Vp told admins what happened and they restarted the gane
2015-04-20 09:00

2015-04-20 10:51
the caster dropped virtus pro a defusekit and virtus told the admins about this unfair advantage, so both teams agreed to replay it.
