Liquid win ESWC USA qualifier

Team Liquid have qualified for ESWC 2015 after seeing off Cloud9 2-1 in the grand final of the USA qualifier (16-14 on de_train, 6-16 on de_overpass and 16-13 on de_cache).

Hosted by CEVO, the USA qualifier for this year's ESWC event featured 16 teams, half of whom were invited, while the remaining half were determined through a preliminary open bracket.

The opening round was rather uneventful as all the favorites managed to move past their respective opponents without too much trouble, but the quarter-final stage saw some exciting matches take place, with eLevate beating Spencer "Hiko" Martin's Nihilum 2-0 and Team Liquid seeing off CLG on just two maps.

Liquid qualify for ESWC finals

In the last-four stage, the new Luminosity Gaming roster, featuring Jacob "pyth" Mourujärvi and Keith "NAF" Markovic, were simply no match for Cloud9 as they were downed 0-2 while picking up a mere six rounds throughout the series. On the other side of the bracket, Liquid edged past eLevate without dropping a single map either.

Eric "adreN" Hoag's side took the lead in the grand final following a 16-14 victory on de_train. Cloud9 then picked themselves up and equalised the series with a 16-5 thrashing on de_overpass, but issues with Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir's internet connection forced the team to field a stand-in on the final map, de_cache, where Liquid ended up prevailing by a 16-13 scoreline.

This was the worst qualifier I've seen, Luminosity had connection issues all day and could not have time to fix them before match against cloud 9. Then cloud 9 had the same issues against liquid. A disappointing day that liquid goes for NA, going to get crushed...
2015-06-01 15:11
Please...don't use that lame excuse for LG, they lost fair and square.
2015-06-01 16:07
Fair and square? Lol cloud9 had one player lagging and you have commented below saying it should have been rescheduled. I think both cliud9's losing match to liquid should have been rescheduled, but I believe that if luminosity hadn't had 3 players lagging they wouldn't even had made it to ljquid...
2015-06-01 22:56
LOL, alright then. Whatever you say, sure they lagged and that's why they got roflstomped on both maps.

Unfortunate that C9 had connection trouble. I wonder about the outcome if that had not been an issue.
2015-06-01 13:23
Luminosity had connection issues with 3 players, not just one. Yesterday would have been a lot different if these teams had not been ddosed/connection issues
2015-06-01 15:12
pretty simple: if he doesnt have any connection issues at all, i bet you 100$ they win that in 2 maps. they almost won train and they crushed them on overpass. but i bet you even more that they at least make it in 3 maps. freakazoid is a strong player when it comes to crushing those lower tier teams. stunna is just their coach, and he'll be what, like a LEM in mm? and still they almost had it on cache.

There will be another two qualifiers for NA
2015-06-01 13:39
they dont deserve it , cloud9 played with a stand in who doesnt even know what he is doing on the last match , still they ended it 13 - 16 ... wtf , online qualifiers ? are you serious ?

You seem mad? How much?
2015-06-01 15:14
0 i stopped betting after csgolounge blackmailed several leagues nice try though
2015-06-01 15:22
HAHHAHHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAH, seems like you lost a lot, even hating on CSGL now
2015-06-01 15:26
Nah won plenty just stopped cause its getting to a point that csgolounge will do anything to get more exposure telling leagues to advertise them or they stop putting up their matches which would mean a drop in vieuwers, most leagues care about only that.
2015-06-01 15:32
ur a new gen kid who knows shit ,lol. stop spreading ur poision kid

Totally unfair... Freakazoid had to leave due to ddos, and the ddoser just got what he wanted. C9 had to play with a stand in the entire third map. It wasn't Liquid's fault, but also wasn't fair with c9. They performed very well even 4x5
2015-06-01 14:44
unfair ? freakazoid has internet problems for a pretty long time by now and he is too stupid to fix it .. he didnt bother to play from another location thats what u get for being stupid
2015-06-01 14:52
he hasn't been on c9 long has he? and before that he had stopped playing for like a year. how long has he had these issues?
2015-06-01 14:57
seen him many times stream and closing stream couse internet problems
2015-06-01 15:21

2015-06-01 16:11
so why not reschedule it idiot
2015-06-01 16:22
Because they wouldn't allow it. Why? no fucking clue. You think C9 would have kept playing if they could have rescheduled it? lol, no. It wasn't just another online match for a league/etc, it was for a damn LAN.
2015-06-01 16:36
Luminosity had the same issues except with 3 players, and they still managed to win against 2 teams.

2015-06-01 15:12
guys it really doesnt matter liquid/c9/clg/luminosity/elevate/nihilum or whatever... im happy that c9 didnt qualify and i hope they wont. total dissapointment of a slot always. i rather see a random na pug team participating rather than c9 who after so many years still are far away from any top eu team level and it doesnt seem like they would actually try to improve. its disgusting guys i dont know if its in na people gens or what, but srsly good na players could be counted on fingers...
2015-06-01 15:25
I wish I could move to NA and join a "decent" team, chances would be so huge to get professional. Sad.
2015-06-01 15:28
lol whats with all these nobodies from Europe thinking theyre pyth or something. Pyth was never a huge player but he always had innate talent and even so its not like hes on top of NA right now. Honestly, it would be hilarious of a bunch of shitty europeans came over expecting to be in professional and then get stuck in main/premier because they realise theyre not pyths or lurpiss's.
2015-06-01 15:38
Obviously, you have no clue. Never said that it will happen directly. It's way easier to get a name in NA, than in Europe :)
2015-06-01 15:51
Pyth hasn't even done much since coming here, no offense to him. He's not even as amazing as people think, lots of NA players are better than he is. They only talk about him cause he made the move to Canada I believe.
2015-06-01 16:16
because csgo is a 1vs5 game and if you're good individually you can easily get 50 kills every match no matter what teammates you have
2015-06-01 16:38
I never said that....people act like he's amazing, when he's not. He's more average than people give credit for, there are a ton of better NA players, a few of whom are on mediocre teams.
2015-06-01 16:41

Is Pyth really top in NA? To be honest, I don't see him as much better than the average NA player, and certainly not the best.
2015-06-01 17:30
It depends how do we see "top". I was thinking about it that if we would pick 20-30 best players from NA teams pyth would be there.
2015-06-01 18:03
People acted like he was going to dominate the scene. As it stands, hes 4th in stats on his own team in ESEA thusfar. Not exactly the massive impact LG wanted.

2015-06-02 14:52
I think the point is that a high end amateur EU team could quite easily reach the top level of NA CS. Look at ESEA Premier teams. Many of these teams are total jokes, and top of that league go straight into ESEA Professional. Ofc, random EU teams wouldn't beat C9 or win the Pro league. But imo they could definitely be promoted out of Premier. It's because NA is kinda on its own. To "make it" in the EU, you can't be just be one of the best in your own country like USA or Canada. You have to compete with the best teams from all of the national scenes. Do you know the 7th best team in Poland? The 5th in Ukraine? The 3rd in Finland? I know the Top 12 NA teams, and some below even that. And the level of competition isn't that high, just like lesser known national teams in EU.

2015-06-01 16:06
So stupid, that Cache match should have been rescheduled, but you CAN'T reschedule such an important match? whoever thought up that is an idiot.
2015-06-01 16:09
Freak's fault... Shitty internet for so long, but now that he's a salaried C9 player, NO excuses.
2015-06-01 16:20
You clearly have no clue how Internet monopoly works in the US, so shut up. Go educate yourself on it before spewing BS. The organizers wouldn't allow a reschedule, which is retarded for them to have ONLINE QUALIFIERS for an INTERNATIONAL LAN, and NOT reschedule if this crap happens. What a joke. They almost lost 5v4.

God I hope so, someone said there's an invite left for NA, is that true or nah? it's amazing how they wouldn't allow a reschedule of such an important match....but whatever, no way they re-do the map cause in their eyes Liquid "won." Almost losing 4v5, what a joke.
