fnatic, LG win opening Cluj matches
fnatic and Luminosity Gaming are through to the Upper final of Group A at DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca after beating Vexed Gaming and Cloud9, respectively.
The first game of the Romanian major was played on de_cobblestone, a map we are likely to see a lot in this tournament. fnatic went into the match as heavy favourites and they outlined the desire to live up to that billing, picking up a 3-0 lead following an impressive pistol round and a clutch by Robin "flusha" Rönnquist in the first anti-eco.
But when Vexed Gaming bought up, the game changed. The Polish team defended the B site brilliantly in the first gun round, leaving fnatic with little money to work with. After that, a succession of errors on the Swedes' part allowed Vexed to overturn the deficit, and as the game wore on, the confidence of Piotr "peet" Ćwikliński's men crew. Despite being in a tough situation, fnatic refused to call a timeout, confident that they would be able to turn things around in the second half.
fnatic are one game away from the playoffs
The strategy was risky but it worked out perfectly for fnatic, who took control of the proceedings and picked up the opening eight rounds of the half. Vexed still tried to find their way back into the game and called a time out, but there was no stopping the fnatic train in the match.

The other match was the repeat of what has become sort of a classic in North America as Cloud9 took on Luminosity Gaming on de_dust2. A flying start from the Brazilian side saw them storm to a 5-0 lead, with Cloud9 looking helpless to stop their opponents. After a technical pause, momentum swung in the favour of Cloud9, who won seven of the next 10 rounds despite a one-man show from Marcelo "coldzera" David, who boasted a 23-4 score at half-time.
cold was on fire against Cloud9
Cloud9 picked up where they had left off and picked up the opening three rounds in the second half to take the lead in the game. But once Luminosity had money in the bank they were simply unstoppable, cruising to a 16-11 victory that gives NA fans their first headache of the day.
