G2 defeat mouz 2-1, return to playoffs
G2 are in to the playoffs of DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca after defeating mousesports 2-1 in the decider match (19-16 on de_mirage, 12-16 on de_inferno, and 16-5 on de_cache).
It was G2 who kicked off the action on the first map of this best-of-three, winning the CT pistol round on mousesports' map pick, de_mirage. However, Fatih "gob b" Dayik and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač played a crucial role in securing mouz's first gunround, a victory which allowed the predominantly German team to begin picking up T-side rounds.
Aside from the seventh round, where G2's Swede Mikail "Maikelele" Bill strung together three M4A4 kills to single-handedly save the round, the first half was mousesports' show, up until the final two rounds, which an awakening G2 defense won. The half finished 8-7 for mouz.
Maikelele was once again all over the second pistol round and helped G2 secure a much needed provision for the team's Terrorist side. Nevertheless, it was mouz who grinded out round-after-round on their CT side, until the score stood at 15-11.
Maikelele was the saviour of mirage
Once again, G2 displayed a tenacity many would not have guessed at for what was once a purely European mix-team and began to claw back rounds, which included Maikelele chiming in with a 4K and a one-versus-two clutch in the 29th round: as a result, the game went into overtime.
Overtime was the Ricardo "fox" Pacheco show in a sense with the Portuguese player picking up a 3K on the first round (G2's T-side) and then an AWP 4K on G2's first CT side of overtime. As a result of his antics as well as his team's performance overall, G2 took the first map 19-16.
de_inferno was another repeat of the first half of de_mirage, with G2 securing the T-side pistol round, mousesports winning the first gun round, and the first half finishing 8-7 in mouz's favour.
NiKo took off on mouz's T-side of de_inferno
After G2 picked up the second half pistol, mousesports decided to flip the script on the second map as a fragging effort led by Denis "denis" Howell and Bosnian NiKo propelled the team forward to a more comfortably secured win on the map, 16-12.
On de_cache, G2 fearsomely proved that the team's 16-0 infamous cache stomp of Virtus.pro at the FACEIT Stage 2 finals in Valencia was no anomaly, pulling ahead to a 8-0 scoreline on the team's CT-side before mouz answered back with a round.
Johannes "nex" Maget was a lodestone of the German effort to fight back, helping win a two-on-two on the twelth round which shut down G2's economy and forced a save. Following a long technical pause, the half ultimately closed 11-4 in G2's favour.
Chris "chrisJ" de Jong used his USP-S to great effect on the second pistol, and helped restore an inkling of hope to mousesports' attempt to survive the third map. That inkling was utterly shattered on the next round however when a G2 TEC-9 rush took apart mouz and gave G2 the 12-5 lead.
Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad & co. were in no mood to allow an inferno style resurgence happen from mouz and began to hammer the mousesports defense across the map, which led to the team taking the map 16-5 and advancing to the playoffs for the second consecutive time in 2015.
