EZSkins confirm disbandment
EZSkins' Counter-Strike team has disbanded, the players have revealed on Twitter.
EZSkins made a splash in the Counter-Strike scene in July by signing what many dubbed as "the super team" of the United Kingdom and offering the players professional contracts.
Led by former mousesports and Anexis veteran Sam "RattlesnK" Gawn, the team quickly established themselves as the strongest side in the UK and secured a spot at DreamHack Open London, where they surprised everyone by beating Renegades before finishing third of their group.
After that event, EZSkins added more experience to the squad by signing George "hudzG" Hoskins, formerly of dignitas, and the team continued to win silverware on the home front as they claimed the Gfinity UK Championship crown over Infused.
weber wants to play abroad after EZSkins collapse
But not even all that domestic success has kept the lineup together as the players have decided to go their separate ways following internal disagreements.
"Unfortunately, after five months and a roster change we were unable to break the seeming UK curse of sticking together and making something work," team member Brandon "weber" Weber told HLTV.org.
"I think after trying for three years to make something work in the UK scene it's becoming more evident we don't have the current capability to create an EU worthy team.
"I'd like to thank HenryG and Sliggy for giving us way more than we deserved during our time together and hopefully my former teammates go on to do great things."
Quizzed on his future, Brandon "weber" Weber revealed his openness to a challenge abroad after growing disenchanted with the state of the UK scene.
"I am motivated more than ever to play and to show that UK players have skill and ability to compete against the best," he stated.
"I am determined to further my career outside of the UK and play for an international side, if possible."
In a statement to HLTV.org, EZSkins owner Henry "HenryG" Greer underlined that the news will not affect the organisation's plans and announced an open recruiment for teams willing to join the project.
"Well, I know what you're all thinking: How grimly predictable...," he told HLTV.org. "I woke up to the news today that the team had decided to throw in the towel after 5 months of hard work from all of us here at EZskins.com.
"I can't say that I'm not disappointed. This has been our passion for the last year, establishing ourselves as a self-sustaining organisation, not having to answer to corporate sponsors and being able to provide the UK CS:GO scene with a stable, professional platform to work from.
"We offered them everything and still it's just not quite enough. I thank the guys for trying and for being honest with themselves (and us) once they realised that all UK roads inevitably lead here.
"We won't be leaving eSports just yet. Seeing as this line up we hand picked hasn't worked out, my hope for building a UK team is diminishing. We are open to picking up any team whether you are British, European or even worldwide. If you would like us to consider your team to be picked up as a professional CS:GO roster then please email me at: Henry@EZskins.com
