fnatic to StarSeries final over LG
fnatic are the first team through to the grand final of the SL i-League StarSeries XIV Finals after seeing off Luminosity Gaming 2-1 (6-16 on de_mirage, 16-7 on de_cache and 16-14 on de_inferno).
Day four of the SL i-League StarSeries XIV Finals kicked off with an intercontinental clash between fnatic and Luminosity, a rematch of the title decider from the FACEIT League Stage 3 Finals, in Jönköping.
A flying start from Luminosity saw the Brazilian side win the first six rounds on de_mirage as fnatic struggled to contain their opponents' offensive prowess. It was only during an eco hold in B that fnatic managed to put a halt to LG's charge, but their economy remained very fragile.
Powered by a great performance from Fernando "fer" Alvarenga, Luminosity continued in the driving seat and brought the scoreline to 11-2, forcing a tactical pause out of fnatic. That was when individual talent from the Swedish camp began to shine as triple kills from Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson and Robin "flusha" Rönnquist gave fnatic the last two rounds of the half.
Fnatic came determined from the break and won the first two rounds on the CT side, but a third-round buy from Luminosity wreaked havoc in the Swedes' defense, with Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's men using that momentum to close out the game 16-6.
Luminosity won the first map of the series
Next up was de_cache, which brought a fantastic first pistol round, with Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer picking up three kills in quick succession in A main before Lincoln "fnx" Lau replied by winning a 1vs4 clutch inside the bombsite. Luminosity went on to add the following two anti-eco rounds to start off the game with a 3-0 lead, but fnatic were simply dominant in gun play and gave their opponents very little room to work with. Unable to string rounds together, the Brazilians never got the chance to build up their bank, with the scoreline blooming to 10-5 in favor of the Swedes.
The second half followed the same pattern as the rounds Luminosity edged out were few and far between, leaving fnatic once again with the economic control. Marcelo "coldzera" David still put up stern resistance, but it was just not enough to stop the Swedes, especially olofmeister.
fnatic gave a great account of themselves on de_cache
It all came down to de_inferno, where fnatic came out the brighter by winning the pistol round. Luminosity hit back right after with some great CZ work and embarked on a great run that saw them win eight of the following nine rounds. Down 2-8, fnatic relied on the fragging power of flusha during the late stages of the half to make a slight climb back into the map and reduce the deficit to three rounds.
Fnatic came from the restart with fire in their bellies and overcame the deficit by winning the first six rounds of the second half. Luminosity then responded and won three rounds in a row to level the game at 12-12 and force fnatic to call a timeout. The rest of the half was highly contested as teams literally traded round for round, with fnatic claiming the win in dramatic fashion.
