Echo Fox sign CS:GO team

Echo Fox have announced their expansion into Counter-Strike with the signing of the team known as Torqued.

Founded by former Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics small forward Rick Fox, Echo Fox made a splash in the League of Legends scene only last month when they acquired Gravity Gaming's spot in North American LCS for a fee believed to be in the region of $1 million.

The organisation have now taken the first step in expanding into other established esports scenes by signing the Counter-Strike team known as Torqued, who competed last weekend in the MLG Columbus 2016 Last Chance pre-qualifier, finishing 5th-8th following a 1-2 defeat to Games Academy in the quarter-finals.

Led by Sean "⁠seang@res⁠" Gares, who returns to activity just two months after stepping down from Cloud9, and by Mohamad "⁠mOE⁠" Assad, the team also feature Trey "⁠tck⁠" Martin, Armeen "⁠a2z⁠" Toussi and Ronnie "⁠ryx⁠" Bylicki, three other well-known figures in the North American scene.

And despite being a relatively new team and with no achievements to their name, Echo Fox have secured an invitation to compete in ELEAGUE, says Rick Fox.

"My vision for Echo Fox has always been much larger than League of Legends," Rick Fox told ESPN. "League is clearly a key component and a great starting point as the most played PC game in the world, but I am building what I intend to be the preeminent eSports empire."

"Given my desire to have one of the leading franchises in [Turner's] ELEAGUE, I have spent the past several months putting together the best team possible.

"The team we signed is lead by some of the top players in the game. m0E is a household name in the CS:GO community and has over 500,000 followers on Twitch. sgares lead his team to a first place finish in the IBuyPower Cup last year and was rated as the best in game leader in North America.

"I know these two, as well as the others, were all being courted by other top teams. We are excited to have them as part of the Echo Fox family and expect to do big things together."

These guys wont compete internationally and dont have any pressure to be NA's No.1 team. Im sure its less stressful for him and a nice paycheck just to play against local teams and the odd international team here and there. Call it semi-retirement.

Actually no, just last night on his stream he said that the hours were too much, the stress was too much, and he had done about all he could do on that roster. I do not know where you're getting your info from but I heard exactly what FREE posted coming out of his mouth. There really isn't a better source. These guys will play, have a great time (As Sean said, I have known these guys for years and really like everyone on the team), earn a steady paycheck, win some local lans, and play some international teams here and there. I think that's awesome. Good luck fellas!

People don't seem to understand why this team was created. Rick Fox is trying to establish his brand before csgo explodes in popularity (ie. the e-league). How do you do that? Either 1.) By achieving great results in tournaments/majors or 2.) By signing players with large followings. As long as this team can float around a .500 winning percentage and pull off the occasional upset to keep their name relevant then it's mission accomplished for Mr. Rick Fox 3x NBA champion. E-sports is growing immensely and this team is an investment for the future.
