ESL launches Brasil Championship

ESL has launched a new competition called the Brasil National Championship, featuring almost $20,000 in cash prizes in its first edition.

The announcement of the league was made at Campus Party Brasil, where it was revealed that CS:GO, League of Legends and Hearthstone will be the titles played in season one, kicking off in March.

The ESL Brasil National Championship will allow teams to compete on a weekly basis, with the league culminating with offline finals. All matches will be broadcast by ESL in Brazilian Portuguese.

Teams like Keyd Stars are expected to compete in the league

ESL's decision to create a big esports league in Brazil comes just two years after the company hosted an IEM event in São Paulo, where it took notice of the potential of this Latin American country.

“Our commitment to Brasil is just the beginning," said ESL UK Managing Director Spike Laurie.

"We’ve got a huge amount planned to promote esports engagement in the region and will be looking to build upon the ESL Brasil National Championship in the future. It’s an exciting market and the region holds much potential."

More information about the ESL Brasil National Championship, including the exact prize pool per game, will be announced in the coming weeks.

Still... ESL is a HUGE company, and that's the whole prize pool, you still need to divide between teams, and then between 5 players...it's better than nothing but still way underwhelming.
