ELEAGUE reveals first groups

Turner Broadcasting and WME/IMG have revealed the first three groups of ELEAGUE.

Twenty-four teams from all over the world will be competing in the debut season of ELEAGUE, the first of two seasons that Turner Broadcasting has committed to hosting in 2016, each one with $1.2 million on offer.

The competing teams have been split into four pots based on their previous achievements. A total of six groups of four teams will be drawn, with one side from each seeding pot in each group.

Luminosity to face three rivals who compete in North America

Only four teams will be at Turner's Atlanta studios per week during the group stage, which will consist of two parts, a double round robin phase and a single-elimination, best-of-three bracket.

Teams will face each other twice on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in best-of-one matches to determine the placement in the group's bracket. The group winners will go straight to the playoffs, while the runners-up will get a second opportunity via a last chance qualifier, scheduled for week 8.

"Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to eSports, each week of ELEAGUE will feature compelling storylines as the top CS:GO teams in the world compete to earn a spot in the playoffs," ELEAGUE Commissioner Min-Sik Ko said in a statement.

"The premiere season of ELEAGUE is set to provide world class competition and ‘must-see’ live event coverage in which every match has meaningful implications."

Below you can find the first three groups:

Group A (May 24-27) Group B (May 31-June 3) Group C (June 7-10)
Brazil Luminosity Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas Denmark Astralis
United States Liquid France G2 United States CLG
United States Cloud9 China TYLOO Denmark SK
Australia Renegades Canada OpTic United States NRG

ELEAGUE will feature live event coverage from Turner's Atlanta Studios, with matches being broadcast exclusively on Twitch from Tuesday to Thursday and simultaneously on Twitch and TBS on Friday evenings. The full tournament schedule can be found here.

CLG on LAN is a top 3 NA team
2016-04-28 19:06

Outside of the G2 stomping, I would dispute that claim. They've struggled against Tier-3 teams, and their only real map win was against an incredibly broken EnvyUS.
2016-04-28 19:12

in the last couple of months yes, but youre ignoring a long history of LAN results for CLG. theyre an upset team that has beaten some damn good teams throughout the last year and a half
2016-04-28 20:05
2 replies
So we cite results from over 4 months ago, with a different roster, and its quite clear the team is a shell of its former self? Got it. Edit: I append, a counter argument would be no other teams in NA have really been attending LANs, so they'd be 3rd by default. But CLG being "bad online" and "good on lan" is a pretty shitty narrative that people try to stick with.
2016-04-28 20:12
1 reply
where the hell are you seeing that narrative at? ive not seen any of that, really. also, with a different roster? theyve made two changes in the last year and a half, same nucleus, and one of the changes was for support players. thats hardly a change, definitely not one to completely disregard previous accomplishments. if you think those results shouldnt be taken into consideration then i HIGHLY question your thought process..... EDIT: plus, their two changes have made their team better, which makes your assertion even less relevant
2016-04-28 20:40
CLG now top1 NA team, Liquid 3rd with OpTiC, Skadoodle9 2nd
