ELEAGUE prize distribution

With $1,400,000 (bumped up from the original $1,200,000) on the line, ELEAGUE has set the highest prize pool of any single tournament in CS:GO to date.

The prize distribution has been released in ELEAGUE’s rulebook, which can be found here, and features topics such as scheduling, format, rules, and legal matters.

A first look at Turner's ELEAGUE studio in Atlanta, GA

The distribution of the prize amongst the participants is as follows:

1. $390,000
2. $140,000
3-4. $60,000
5-8. $50,000
9-14. $40,000
15-24. $30,000
LCQ Winner. $10,000

Coming later tonight on HLTV.org will be a breakdown of media day which will include an interview with Craig Barry, EVP and Chief Content Officer at Turner Sports, as well as highlights from the round tables and press conference, and an interview with Richard Lewis.

on a 1,4M prizepool with 24 teams, finishing third only grants you more $30,000 than the teams that finished last, that's insanely low dude. You can literally go to ELEAGUE, wait to be placed on the last spot and make more money out of other tournaments being played on the same 2 month time. since I assume they get all their expenses paid, $5,000 from 15 to 24 makes way more sense I guess, and you can take the extra $250,000 to actually boost places 1 through 8. I would keep the prizepool for 9-14 the same I guess, it's already a nice pay jump from $5,000 to $40,000. At the very max, I would agree on 10k for places 15-24, would still give 125 extra towards the top.
2016-05-24 03:36

Ye I agree it's pretty fucked up that the failures get such a massive payout. The people in charge of this obviously have never seen prize distribution in tournaments lol or they are obvious NA fans and know that 15-24 is gonna be fulled up by only NA teams.

3-4. $60,000 5-8. $50,000 K.
2016-05-24 03:52
1. $600,000 2. $200,000 3-4. $100,000 5-8. $40,000 9-14. $20,000 15-24. $10,000 Would make much more sense imo than the prize pool that they decided, in 3 minutes you could make up and decide on this prizepool that I even went through the effort to make with round numbers, I could go even further and become creative towards the bottom with $8,000 rewards, etc etc With the prizepool that ELEAGUE has I fear that competitivity will drop for real and that the teams with less chances can strategically drop out in the last place, collect $30,000 while only spending a week of their schedule and earn in the meantime enough in the other tournaments to surpass the team that ends in third-fourth place that will spend a good amount of time to get there, since it is a two month tournament I think that 2-4 weeks they will for sure spend in Atlanta, not being able to attend other events.

"I even went through the effort to make with round numbers" Its easier to make with round numbers tho? Other than that I agree.
2016-05-24 04:00
6 replies
Well, making it with round numbers makes it easier for calculus but wasn't the original plan, since it limits your possibilities on the paychecks and you need to think about another way to make things seem fair for everyone, if I went with random numbers I could make an even fairer prizepool with prizes like 7,500/ 32,500, etc. For example, sticking with 10,000 as minimum acceptable round number (I will go ahead and say that 5,000 might be too low for the quality of teams in attendance), you already lose $100,000 from the prizepool you have to distribute, almost 10% of it. And then using only round numbers, you will have to think about it for a while before deciding on the next value.
2016-05-24 04:09
5 replies
I mean I agree with your main point, its just that making it with numbers that are not as round is a bit harder but also a bit more fair. Either way though I 100% agree, the prize distribution was a bit dumb. The way MLG did it was a lot better IMO
2016-05-24 04:14
4 replies
Just for the sake of it, here it is my not so round prizepool. 1. $635,000 2. $215,000 3-4. $105,000 5-8. $45,500 9-14. $15,500 15-24. $6,500 This way you can keep the tournament more competitive and a lot more fairer on the payjumps.
2016-05-24 04:34
3 replies
That's pretty sick :D I don't really like the 15-24 but then when you consider the fact that there is 24 teams, which is ridiculous, it makes sense.
2016-05-24 04:44
2 replies
Considering that teams from 15-24 only have to play on four days, I would say that if they come last, getting 6,500 doesn't sound too bad. They will literally only play 6 BO1s and 1 BO3, I wouldn't mind getting paid 6,500 for that.
2016-05-24 04:55

Yeah that's kind of what i was getting at but not in depth. Eleage/Turner have done such a good job so far, other than the prize pool :(
2016-05-24 05:01
what if valve told them the cashprize for the winner couldn't be higher than a major?
2016-05-24 07:43
So you took a pricepool structure of one week tournament, and think it is a good way to do a 10 week league? No. Here's why: 1) League requires much more commitment from the teams. Teams won't commit to it if the expected income is risky or unlikely. 30k for last ones is a solid pay from participation and keeps the league interesting for more teams than just top4 2) Lower tier teams need money too. Without lower teams getting money, we would quickly run out of organizations and end up seeing same top8 teams in every high paying tournament. 3) Leagues are, by default, there for the team organizations. F1, NFL, NHL, etc. all share the monies to all teams in league in sufficient manner. And even in those old sporst, there's a lot of controversie about top teams getting too much and lower teams suffering from it as they do not get fair amount, although are important factor for the league to exists in the 1st place.
2016-05-24 14:43
1 reply
I didn't take a prizepool structure of one week tournament, I made it thinking precisely on the 10 weeks. 1) Exactly my point, you may look at it and say it takes 10 weeks, however teams 15-24 will only spend one week total from their time there (some of them two weeks), so they won't really need a lot of commitment. It's not like they will lose 10 weeks of their schedule there. 2) Agreed, however it really isn't fair for a team that has to lose 4 weeks to end up 3-4 and only get 60,000 when you can literally drop out in last, collect half of that value and in the next three weeks go to other tournaments (where the top places will have more money) and take advantage that all the big teams are away in Atlanta to earn an easy paycheck and possibly earn more money than the 3-4. place.

no, from the 6 groups, the 6 teams that got first place move directly to the playoffs while the 6 teams that placed second will be put on the last chance qualifier, a 8 team bracket (the other 2 teams participating will be picked based on the performances and numbers that they showed in the tournament I guess) and from that LCQ, the top 2 teams will join the 6 others in the playoffs.

The biggest prizepool at the scene, but still only Valve's events are "majors". Kappa.

$270k being given out for 15 - 24th place.... that should all be put on the top ~3 maybe ~5 prize pools

5-8. $50,000 9-14. $40,000 15-24. $30,000 Top kek 15-24 10k or less 9-15 15k 5-8 20k Where os the point to give 30k to 25 place
2016-05-24 13:28
The difference between dead last place and a top 4 finish is 30k. How does that make any sense.. You don't even have to win a single game in groups and they'll still receive 30k meanwhile you have beat an opponent in a BO3, beat the next best team in your group in another BO3 and get through a random opponent (likely top 10 team) in another BO3 from the quarter final draw. Or simply yet.. after playing 2 BO3s and coming out of groups in 2nd, you then have to play 3 more BO3s just to even get into the quarter finals of playoffs. The reward is literally none existent for having to play consistently well to beat so many teams.

most retarded prize distribution i ever seen
2016-05-24 14:56
30k for finishing dead last? damn
2016-05-24 15:01
3-4. $60,000 15-24. $30,000 so you have to struggle and be really good to get only 30k more than a random tier 10 NA team? who the fk made this prize pool??

For as big as this whole thing is for CS I'm surprised its not a much bigger prize pool.

I thought the nordics were communists look at that retarded scaling of 10k$ between last place to 3rd o_O
2016-05-25 03:15
1st $550k 2nd $250k 3-4 $110k 5-8 $50k 9-14 $20k 15-24 $8k Every jump up is significant difference rewarding advancement, leaning towards top heavy, my opinion of optimal prize distribution.
