FlipSid3 bring down HR, to Major

The penultimate match of the ESL One Cologne Main Qualifier in Katowice, Poland was a CIS showdown (although that term is obviously geopolitically incorrect as far as three-fifths of HR are concerned) between HellRaisers and FlipSid3.

HellRaisers got the match started with a quintessential T-side pistolround win and moved ahead to 3-0, but it was FlipSid3's players who started racking up three kill defensive holds, such as Yegor "⁠markeloff⁠" Markelov and Jan "⁠wayLander⁠" Rahkonen, that moved the majority Ukrainian team to equalise the score.

A triple kill from Vladyslav "⁠bondik⁠" Nechyporchuk, an ex-FlipSid3 player whose presence on the other side of the pitch made this match that much spicier, put HellRaisers in the lead on the seventh round but it was yet again FlipSid3 who started accruing more rounds, including an anti-eco ace round from wayLander.

The fourteenth round of the half saw Tomáš "⁠oskar⁠" Šťastný do as Oskar does and pick up two improbable Deagle kills to give HellRaisers an unlikely round but the overall theme of FlipSid3's better defense came roaring back in the next round and it was the latter team who finished the half with a 9-6 lead.

HellRaisers claimed the second pistolround and a subsequent anti-eco that saw oskar pick up a quad kill went their way, but an early plant allowed FlipSid3 to buy on the eighteenth and a triple from wayLander helped seal the deal for Andrey "⁠B1ad3⁠" Gorodenskiy's team.

FlipSid3 moved ahead with two more rounds to 12-8, which made HellRaisers call a tactical pause, but a mixed-buy gamble from HR was to no avail on the next round as FlipSid3 strung together a bunch of kills outside the B site to move forward to 13-8.

HellRaisers managed to defend against a late B site take to make the score 14-9 but it was team captain B1ad3 who cruised to three kills to get match point; the next round saw picks ring out across the map and it was wayLander who shut the map down for FlipSid3, 16-9.
