Pimp signs for Liquid - Official

Striker
June 15th, 2016 20:35

Liquid have confirmed the addition of Jacob "Pimp" Winneche to their roster.

A mere two days ago, ESPN's Jacob Wolf reported on Liquid setting their sights on Jacob "Pimp" Winneche, who would become the permanent replacement for Eric "adreN" Hoag, who was relieved of his duties in early June.

Both the addition of Josh "jdm64" Marzano instead of Kenneth "koosta" Suen and now Pimp, who will take adreN's place in the team, have been confirmed by the North American organization.

Pimp officially joins Liquid

For the time being, Aleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev will act as a stand-in, as previously announced, and play ECS Season 1 Finals (June 24-26) and ESL One Cologne (July 5-10), the latter of which the new addition cannot attend due to participating in the European Minor with SK.

After being contacted by HLTV.org, Liquid confirmed that the squad will start practising with Pimp shortly after the major.

"You don't get presented an opportunity like this very often in your life, so I had no doubt when Liquid reached out to hear if I was ready to help them and myself take a step forward in our careers." Winneche said in a statement on Liquid's website.

"I have great confidence that the roster we have assembled is one that can compete with the very best out there, just as I have confidence in myself finding the form I once had during my times with Western Wolves and Dignitas.

Liquid now have:

United States Spencer "Hiko" Martin
United States Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski
United States Nick "nitr0" Cannella
United States Josh "jdm64" Marzano
Denmark Jacob "Pimp" Winneche

Ukraine Aleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev (stand-in)
Brazil Luís "peacemaker" Tadeu (coach)

If you think the metrics/formula HLTV uses to judge teams is useless, you should create your own.
2016-06-15 21:09
True dat. While not the best possible algorithm, they don't use a bunch of arbitrary numbers for rankings. It's based in reality.

Read my comment below. Not new to Liquid, btw. I prefer Cloud9 (but hard to cheer when they're doing badly). I like Optic. I like TSM a little. I like some EU teams, but whatever.
2016-06-16 18:27
I'm actually not saying that. Please re-read my comments. HLTV ranks are based on a number of factors, not just "current form" and "opinion". It's also based on such things as past events and placing. What probably keeps them in the top 10 is the semi-final appearance and near take-down of the #1 team (LG) at the last major. I shouldn't have to explain this to you, but apparently I do.

Look, another EU dickrider who's from a country totally irrelevant to the CS scene entirely. You're rooting for teams in EU that aren't even your own. Before you try and say the same for me, I live in NA and was raised in NA, but regardless I don't give a shit about dickriding my country. But at least I live in a country with a relevant scene, whereas you have to root for countries like Sweden and France, because your own country blows

2016-06-15 20:39
retarded move
2016-06-15 20:40
Why?
2016-06-16 06:04
Because they had better options than pimp, probably even in NA. Also, he will feel homesick a few months later just like S1mple.
2016-06-16 17:28
Who were better options that are available?
2016-06-16 17:39
They could buy out someone from C9, CLG or from other org, or, if they wanted a cheaper option, they should have brought someone with potential from the lower tier teams in NA just like they did with koosta.
2016-06-16 18:05
So who on c9 or clg would be a better option than pimp? The only questionable ones would be shroud, Tarik or stew. And noone of them are really better than pimp. Bringing in a player from lower tier is not even close to as good as signing pimp. You say "retarded move". Sry but I don't think your explanations to why is retarded are very wrong.
2016-06-16 19:29
Tarik or stewie are way better than Pimp, trust me. Pimp is not even the best player on his team

I think its ridiculous to credit the ESPN writer for this when Yee already had announced this is happening before ESPN.
2016-06-15 20:59
Considering ESPN is a reputable website that can be counted on to have reliable sources, it makes complete sense. Why would you cite some random guy on Reddit, who has deleted his account, as the main source of this info? Whether or not he was right is a moot point. He didn't reveal his sources at all, and couldn't be counted on to do so.

You don't have to cite a random guy on reddit, but you don't have to pretend that the ESPN guy "broke" the story either, since the story was already pretty much out there. ESPN didn't reveal their sources either which would be dumb for both Yee and any journalist and result in them losing those sources forever.
2016-06-15 22:10
If you aren't going to cite the random guy, whom you have no idea is reliable or not, why wouldn't you state that ESPN broke the story, if they were the first reputable source to do so? Some random guys on Twitter break club news for football before it happens, but they never get cited either. It's always the reputable journalists. This is no different.

Pimp must really be desperate to make a move like this. EliGE himself said on twitter that Liquid's practice schedule was shit and didn't help them at all, and that their semi-finals run at the major was only lucky. How does Pimp think that this will change magically any time soon?
2016-06-15 21:13
Lmfao, getting a consistent practice schedule is a magical change all of a sudden? And weren't these comments made in regards to them removing their previous coach? You'd certainly think they have worked on fixing the issue.
2016-06-15 21:35
getting a consistent practice schedule is a magical change all of a sudden? lol well it definitely helps when you actually have practice dedicated to something that helps your team be more coordinated as a unit. I think you're right about the second thing though although after adding peacemaker they're not showing any signs of improving... I doubt that after going 0-8 in ELEAGUE they've improved much though.
2016-06-15 21:43
Dunno about the improving part, just remarking on the practice bit. I'm guessing if they did get peacemaker, he certainly has them practicing. Yeah they did look bad in e-league, but I think that's also down to them knowing adreN and koosta weren't going to work out. Both of them really dragged the team down. They were still implementing the style of play peacemaker wants, also.

It's weird that Pimp has been around forever, yet I don't really remember him. I know he lost a bunch of weight a couple years ago, but I don't know much about his style of play or what he is really going to add to Liquid.
2016-06-16 02:53
He was a good awper, imo awpers turning into riflers can become really good riflers.

nitr0 and elige are useless imo
2016-06-16 03:53
pimp is not that good, but if you're talking about liquid and NA scene, hes awesome! =] I hope liquid gets a lot better with this lineup
2016-06-16 04:06
Well they were taking some of the best in the world to overtime or close to worth adreN so I'm sure this will put them in a good spot.
2016-06-16 06:09
yeah man, the crucial point is, taking out adren and koosta you bring "calm" in the team you know? middle of rounds, clutchs etc, everything will get better, this is the key... liquid isn't tier 3 team they can't keep fucking with guys like adren or koosta hahaha
2016-06-16 06:25
Yeah but did you see koosta on NME? I'm pretty sure he was cheating man youtu.be/UfFrlnCXyPU Yes it was Luminosity/Winterfox but that is some reaction and flicks. Idc who it was against he would've hit those shots. I can't blame liquid for giving koosta a shot at all after the way he played on NME. But he never looked anything like that. His reaction time was seriously so slow. Also he needs to develop some game sense.
2016-06-16 06:35
yeah man, its a gamble... like, coldzera was playing like monster in BR, when LG hooked him up, 50% of br's were hyped as fuck, and the other 50% were like "oh he will choke for sure lmao" you know? all pro players can go ham at some point, or for some time, all of them!! but consistency is a bitch, you never know what's going to happen, and talking about NA scene, I think it was a good gamble, I was suprised on how shity he became, he is skilled, don't get me wrong, but is like he's not "ready" yet you know? maybe with more experience with an "easier" team if that make sense, he can develop and one day being tier 1 material with consistency!
