Hiko: "s1mple really wants to win"

We interviewed another quarter-finalist at ESL One Cologne, this time it's Spencer "Hiko" Martin about Liquid's route to playoffs,

Liquid have joined the list of quarter-finalists following a win over Envy, a loss to Virtus.pro and finally a confident win over mousesports in the decider of Group C.

As usual, we got a hold of Spencer "Hiko" Martin for an eight-minute long interview, in which he shares a few things about Aleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev's approach to team and individual practice prior to the event, goes through the group matches and more:

You can find the rest of HLTV.org's videos by going to our YouTube channel here.

Check out the list of interviews we have conducted so far at ESL One Cologne to see if you've missed any:

Ukraine Yegor "markeloff" Markelov: "Knew exactly how NiP play"
Denmark Finn "karrigan" Andersen: "I feel like I won an event"

Has he even top fragged a single game this major? I mean what is carrying in your opinion? Being middle of scoreboard with less frags than noobs like Elige and Nitro?

Imo carrying is not about frags. Being top of scoreboard neither. Don´t get me wrong cuz i don´t like S1mple he is quite toxic and he belives he is God as you can see on his Steam profile names he used to play with. Olof said "CS is not about how many frags you get, it´s all about teamwork" and Swedens are known to play beauty CS.

let me start off by saying i think he's improving his attitude (#news1mple period was just some 17 year old kid fishing viewers), but let's forget this opinion i'd gladly play with a toxic person who is that good. His attitude and skills would thrive me to play more than i've ever played and possible come close to matching his performance to achieve real wins in this scene. That's just me talking as i was in the scene. No, not every pro thinks like this, but many of them do. Hiko would gladly play with s1mple, but sadly it isn't going to happen now
2016-07-08 02:02
all other players in tournament just pretend they want to win...

i think that's what he means, for some money is the thriving reason to win and they won't go out of their comfort zone to win this big event. if you go ALL out and literally deathmatch 3+ hours like s1mple before a match and pushing yourself physically and mentally to the limits as an individual player (physically shouldn't go too hard if you play low sens though. olof would go out quickly) then you have passion which wins you the tournament , like SK won last major edit: it takes 5 though. not 2 or 3

Anyone knows what happens with liquids roster at the next major? Since simple helped the team to place top 8 now what happens with the next major? Same goes to astralis..... Liquid can still use any player next major or do the same players that qualified here have to be part of the next major as well? Liquid and astralis can still keep their top 8 placing if they play with diff line ups?

s1mple has the second most hours total in CSGO out of all of the players in attendence of this major. Think of all the legends that attended, and then realize that s1mple has put in that many hours at only 18 years old.
2016-07-08 04:33
S1mple is toxic, but he is really amazing player and always wants to win. Maybe this is the main reason of his toxicness.

the analogy of him being like kobe and jordan works. they all put in 110% into what they do and when their teammates arent as good, its hard for them to accept that.

You can say what you want about s1mple.. But he is rly dedicated to the game and i respect that but keep that in mind he shot himself in the foot so many times.. I don't see a better place for him then Liquid? I mean what's next? -.- Such a wasted talent.
