Virtus.pro beat Gambit in EL LCQ
Virtus.pro have advanced to the semi-finals of the ELEAGUE last-chance qualifier after defeating Gambit 2-0 (19-17 on Dust2 and 16-6 on Mirage).
After Renegades' demolition job of FlipSid3 Tactics, the last-chance qualifier continued with a match between two European sides that had made it to the ESL One Cologne playoffs as Gambit Gaming, featuring Vadim "DavCost" Vasilyev as a substitute, took on Virtus.pro.
The series began on Dust2, where Rustem "mou" Telepov opened the game with a quad kill near the pit to put Gambit in the lead. That round turned into a massive streak as the Russians stormed to a 5-0 lead, but then Virtus.pro took control of proceedings as they never let their opponents build on the few round wounds that they had.
The second half was highly-contested from the get-go as teams took turns putting together small runs of rounds. Virtus.pro eventually reached map point, but Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev rescued Gambit with a 1vs4 clutch. That amazing individual action turned out to be a key moment as Gambit won the final two rounds to equalise the score at the end of regulation.
Virtus.pro are one victory away from the ELEAGUE playoffs
Gambit entered overtime with the momentum in their favour, but they were unable to capitalise on that as Virtus.pro picked up two rounds in each half to secure a 19-17 victory and take the lead in the series.
Map two, Mirage, was a complete blowout as Virtus.pro cruised to a commanding 13-2 lead even after losing the pistol round. More misery was heaped on the Ukrainian team in the second half as they also lost the opening two rounds. With 14 match points in their pocket, Virtus.pro took their foot off the pedal, allowing Gambit to put together a small run of rounds, but it would not take the Polish players long to put the match to bed.
