SL i-League Season 2 details out

StarLadder have revealed the details for the second $300,000 season of SL i-League StarSeries, which will feature 16 teams at the finals in Nanjing, China, from September 7-11.

A total of $300,000 is reserved for second season's SL i-League StarSeries, which is a $100,000 increase from last season's finals, which saw fnatic emerge victorious from a decisive grand final with Natus Vincere in mid January.

Last season's champions fnatic are among the invitees

The total amount of teams will also see a significant bump, as this time the finals will feature 16 teams, eight of which have received direct invites, while the other half will come from European, Chinese and North American qualifiers.

The exact distribution of slots is following:

Sweden fnatic France G2 World Natus Vincere United States Liquid
Denmark Astralis Brazil SK Poland Virtus.pro Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas
Europe EU qualifier Europe EU qualifier  Europe EU qualifier North America NA qualifier
North America NA qualifier  Other China qualifier Other China qualifier Other China qualifier

Stage 1 of the Chinese qualifier is already underway, details for the North American and European qualifiers have not been revealed yet.

Prizepool distribution:

1. $150,000
2. $50,000
3-4. $25,000
5-8. $10,000
9-12. $4,500
13-16. $3,000

More sponsors, i think

The tournament is in china after all, they probably want to have some regional spots to boost attendance/sponsors. Although idk if China will want to see their teams get crushed. Given how PGL faired (X (ex-SK) and Epsilon going undefeated against the 6 Chinese teams that included Tyloo and VG.CyberZen) I doubt they will have any success here.

Two NA\SA teams already invited directly, we just decided that 4 NA\SA teams will be enough this time + china qual's has AUS teams in it.
2016-07-23 02:09
Accurately, "3 china spots" do not mean 3 Chinese teams (although there are some possibilities). The "China qualifier" represents 3 spots to the Asia-Pacific region, including Oceania counties, which means team Renegades from Australia and team MVP from South Korea will join in the qualifier in China. So, in my opinion, the 3 teams from China Qualifier maybe are TYLOO, VG.Cyberizen, and Team Renegades.

Does the NA qualifier have South American teams in it? Surely it must because you'd probably see FalleN calling the tournament organisers out on twitter about it if that wasn't the case. Edit: I'm really happy this tournament has 16 teams. now we can see a proper format imo.

Teams should be nV Mouz Faze... Possibly Dignitas or Godsent. NA should be C9 and... TSM? CLG? China is gonna be TyLoo and Czen. Should have been these teams and plus immortals. Would be gr9 tourney.

Doubt it will be nV. Looks like there's gonna be some changes. Dignitas have a solid squad now, with the addition of Magiskb0y. I'd say swap nV and Dig and you have the 3 EU teams. NA I agree with. CLG looking in a bad place too. Maybe Splyce? ;)

I really hope CS can get as big as it is now in EU/NA also in Asia, such a huge population, if just 3 % of the men age 18-30 started playing that would be huge boost for the scene, Asians are #1 in almost every other game, so they shouldn't have any problems producing a couple of pro teams. But if you are a GO player in let's say China, then you can only pracc against low their teams, praccing with EU/NA teams is almost impossible due to the ping. Hard to get good fast if you can't pracc against really good teams. Asians seems to prefer strategy games like LoL, Star Craft etc and not FPS, Why? Strange that FPS is so popular in the West and not in China, Japan, Korea etc. Can you tell me a little about the GO scene in China? I'm very curious. You got fiber in the city's i guess? So ping should not be big problem even if China is a very big country. Sweden has about 9 million people and has 2-3 pro teams, China has 1.3 billion people, they should have 20 000 pro teams statically. But only has 1 that who comes to some events. I think that's very strange :) I might be wrong about that, I don't know much about the scene there but I'm very curious.

Man, my wish goes the same way with you. FPS is always a popular game in Asia, CrossFire by Tencent, said has 300,000,000 players. But this game is unfair because you can improve your guns using a large amount of money, not like CSGO, the skins and stickers would never affect the fairness in game. Apparently after CS1.6 China FPS has become less popular. Recently Perfect World has claimed to distribute CSGO in China, this is really good news for China FPS. As in real CS funs, they would never accept other FPS games except CS. Hope this would be a good start for China to recover the glory of old CS times. More people come to play CSGO, more hope for Chinese team to win major. Your consideration is definitely right, right now China has like, 20 pro teams, and maybe 20 young teams, except VG and TyLoo, others just improve so slow. They cannot train with EU and NA teams, thus no way to improve themselves. Even VG and TyLoo still has problems with that. That's why they are considering a bootcamp abroad. But the visa problem and time need to be negotiated. Sweden is always strong in CS, we cannot compare with simply the ratio :-) But only with more people playing this game, can China CS become stronger and stronger.

Guess we have to wait 2 months to see a Fnatic vs SK game, Would be a bit disappointed if they where not meet in match, hopefully a BO3.
2016-08-04 23:51
thescoreesports.com/csgo/news/9530-sk-to.. Why is SK still in the list? And why haven't I seen anything about this on hltv? Usually even when the smallest amount of info is given, there will still be a blog about stuff like this. prntscr.com/c1qkfs
