EPICENTER: Moscow details released

Epic Esports Events have revealed details for the EPICENTER: Moscow event, including the dates, venue, invited teams and distribution of the $500,000 prizepool.

While the European closed qualifier is underway, Epic Esports Events released all important details for the $500,000 event, which will take place in Moscow's VTB Ice Palace, a 14,000-seater indoor arena.

The event will be running from October 17-23, which makes it the longest offline event we've seen so far in CS:GO, barring ELEAGUE where the separate stages were split across eight weeks.

Virtus.pro are among invitees for EPICENTER: Moscow

However, the organizers expect to have off-days between the groups and playoffs to finalize stage preparations, as only the playoffs will be played on-stage.

Groups of EPICENTER: Moscow will be played in a best-of-two, round-robin format, with all four teams going through to best-of-three, single-elimination playoffs.

According to a statement given by CEO Mark Averbukh, Epic Esports Events are looking to provide an "exceptional stage design", which they lived up to in their first EPICENTER event in DotA 2.

The six invited teams are:

France G2 Sweden fnatic  World Natus Vincere Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas
Poland Virtus.pro  Brazil SK  Europe EU qualifier  Null element CIS qualifier

$500,000 will be distributed among the participants followingly:

1. $250,000
2. $100,000
3-4. $40,000
5-8. $15,000

European closed qualifier's group stage has already begun, Astralis and GODSENT picked up their first wins over Wizards and Heroic, respectively.

"Groups of EPICENTER: Moscow will be played in a best-of-two, round-robin format, with top two sides going through to best-of-three, single-elimination playoffs." RIP hype, why not just stick with the DotA format they used, it was perfect.

That is a mistake. All teams go through to the playoff, not only top 2 :) Groupstage counts only for the seeding.

Wasting spot on NA is reasonable when we have 12-16 teams, but not if there's 8 slots.
2016-08-30 16:51
So why does GODSENT has to qualify when tier 2 teams like NiP and fnatic get invites?

We should have at least one NA team. So that they would get their visas denied and every burgerino would blow up their minds. Sad that it's not gonna happen, though.
