Immortals win Northern Arena

Immortals prevail over Cloud9 in the Northern Arena grand final (2-1; Cobblestone 16-12, Train 12-16, Overpass 16-11) and claim the $50,000 first place prize.

The match between the two finalists started with an interesting pistol round in which Wilton "zews" Prado showed he came prepared for Cloud9, as he read their drop room tactic and stopped it by stacking four of his teammates around the area.

Immortals took the first three rounds, Cloud9 replied with one, but Henrique "HEN1" Teles's AWP triple quickly reset the economy of the North American team at a 4-1 scoreline.

Even though they were on a very weak buy, Cloud9 managed to get back on the board by a combination of good flashbang work and Jake "Stewie2K" Yip's headshots. From that point onwards, it was Cloud9 with the lead and the initiative in the first half.

felps was one of the crucial players on Cobblestone

Cloud9 ended the half with a solid 9-6 lead as Terrorists on Cobblestone, but a good part of their rounds came as a result of clutch plays such as the Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham and Timothy "autimatic" Ta one in round 12, where the two of them combined for all five kills.

autimatic had another great clutch in round 22, where he outmaneuvered  João "felps" Vasconcellos and utilized grenades intelligently to win a crucial 1v1 situation. In the end, all the clutches weren't enough as the trio of Ricardo "boltz" Prass, felps and HEN1 pushed Immortals to a 16-12 victory on their map pick.

Coming into Train it was Cloud9 to win the pistol round as Terrorist, allowing them to grab a good 4-0 lead to start the map. Immortals recovered and tied it 6-6 when HEN1 clutched an important 1v1 versus Stewie2K

In the end, the Brazilians took six rounds in the row to end the half with a 9-6 lead as Counter-Terrorists. Coming into the second half, it was autimatic once again to clutch - this time a 1v2 situation in the pistol round.

n0thing, Skadoodle and autimatic won important 1v1's on Train

A couple of force-buy rounds followed: Immortals took the first one with a A site push, Cloud9 almost replied in the following one, killing all Immortals members on the B site but running out of time to defuse, but followed it up with another one in which Skadoodle saved his team with an ace-clutch.

Towards the end of the map, Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert and Mike "shroud" Grzesiek managed to win two more important 1v1 clutches to close out the second map 16-13.

Coming into Overpass Immortals had a good 3-0 start, but their momentum was stopped by a long technical pause. When the match was resumed, the third round was replayed, but this time Cloud9 managed to win it - with only default pistols.

Cloud9 used the momentum to get a six-round lead, but boltz's side managed to grab the last three rounds of the half to end it 9-6.

After the switch, the Brazilians managed to get to a 11-9 lead before Cloud9 took their first Terrorist round off the back of an unfortunate HEN1 team kill on the A site. However, Immortals kicked it into a higher gear after that and closed out the match with five straight rounds and a scoreline of 16-11.

Onliners, they destroy people in online tournaments, they lose their shit on lan, + Hen1 screaming at each clutch, doesn't help either... lol

they lost 16-11 and 16-12 to an equal skilled team...ur a moron
2016-09-05 11:22
Didn't they beat IMT 2-0 on ESL ?!... they should've lost in Train too, but somehow all the clutches went C9s way.

All your arguments are basically saying that c9 is the better team and Immortals suck.
2016-09-05 23:39
whaaa ?!... how did you got to this conclusion ?! I just said that, it's always like that with C9, they have a good run online, people get excited, then, they lose in Lan, i'm not saying either team is better than the other... Also, i really like YungStew, but, with that kinda of performance, they are not going anywhere.
2016-09-05 23:44
you've never seen a team lose to a team that they have beaten in the past? How long have u been playing? Are u saying that if fnatic beats SK once, then they should beat them every single time they play after that 1st match?

Because they are supposed to Top 1 NA, Top 2 NA/SA combined, Top 5 World (in Fans eyes). They have the talent to get there and this tournament was supposed to show that.

2016-09-05 00:06
I didnt get it. Which rule did thry break?
2016-09-05 01:02
Heni wasn't wearing soundproof headphones for first 3 rounds so he could hear casters and crowd. I was at event and players were no more then 20 feet from casting desk. Loud speakers aswell.
2016-09-05 01:12
Is there any rule against that? Because they should be dq if there is.
2016-09-05 01:14
Yes, there is a rule and it should have resulted in a DQ if the admins enforced their rule. But instead, they let C9 decide and C9 decided to play on without restarting. Despite this, the brazilians are still on hltv spamming things like, "cry9" even when C9 played it out. twitter.com/RLewisReports/status/7725479..
2016-09-05 01:18
honestly kind of ridiculous that c9 even got decision to restart. Props goes out to c9 tho cause after game they were super cool for pictures and signing
2016-09-05 03:34
yah, tournaments need to stop letting the players decide.
2016-09-05 03:34
+1
2016-09-05 14:22
not necessarily DQ, they could've applied verbal warning as well, thats the problem with you guys, always trying to find a way to feel less inferior.
2016-09-05 21:34
For some reason, everyone defending IMT always says that they would have been given a verbal warning. How does that even make sense? It was a clear violation of the rules even if he did it accidentally and it definitely was not just a minor offense so what makes you think that they would have issued a verbal warning? The least that would have been done was to restart the match completely or even worse, have them DQ'd.
2016-09-05 21:40
Because "Verbal Warning" is listed as a penalty as well. This is where bad rules comes into play. Check semmler's new video about it, there is no good rule to apply in this situation, DQ would be a little too much, the right thing to do in this specific case would be restart game + verbal warning but there again, the biggest problem here is the bad rules
2016-09-05 21:48
Of course the problem is the bad rules, I wasnt trying to blame any of the players involved.
2016-09-05 21:54
all events are such pussies when it comes to laying down the law. It will take one DQ to happen and nobody will break rules. Now everyone bending them as much as possible.
2016-09-06 03:20
So far , Eleague is the only one that has actually enforced their own rules
2016-09-06 03:42
IMM totally won that 3 rounds because Hen1 was hearing the crowd!! OMG OMG OMG
2016-09-05 14:24
Nobody cares about the crowd. While Hen1 had his headset off, he could have potentially been listening to the casters or even C9's comm's. Not saying that he was doing these things, but he could have been.
2016-09-05 21:37
most unlikely...
2016-09-05 21:53
It doesn't matter if he was or wasn't doing it though. It was still a clear violation of the rules.
2016-09-05 21:55
I apply to the rules. Why did they neglected the rules? so dumb, but thats not why C9 lost.
2016-09-05 22:07
Yah, I never said that was why C9 lost. I was just saying that it was poorly handled by the admins and the tournament organizers.

2016-09-05 15:57
where is the trashtalk?
2016-09-05 16:26
Seems to have subsided, but it was overwhelming HLTV and reddit yesterday.
2016-09-05 16:27
I find it a bit disingenuous for HLTV to not even mention the dispute that clearly had ramifications on the match and which had high CSGO profiles commenting on integral issues like adminship at tournaments, integrity, etc...
2016-09-05 18:08
I agree, the main problem with the rules that say "Verbal warning" and "Map/match loss", there is no intermediate punishment like restart game, ofc hen was stupid to "forget" (I don't think he used this on his advantage, they rushed on a stack) his isolating headphone, but still, the rules should be better, so they could be applied
2016-09-05 21:40
hen1 was listening to the casters lol
2016-09-05 19:27
LOL Immortals were cheating
2016-09-05 20:44
