dsn joins B.O.O.T. as coach

MIRAA
September 30th, 2016 11:00

Former fnatic member Harley "dsn" Örwall has been installed as coach of B.O.O.T., the Chinese team have announced.

The 30-year-old hung up his mouse and keyboard in 2011 after playing at the highest level for over a decade, during which he plied his trade for teams like xPerience.se, Begrip Gaming, EYEBallers and more notably fnatic.

It was on fnatic that Harley "dsn" Örwall cemented his credentials as one of the game's finest AWPers, and he played an important part in the team's hegemony in the 1.6 scene in 2007 and 2009.

dsn will move to Shanghai to coach the team full-time

After a five-year absence, the Swede is ready to embrace a new challenge in esports as he will be moving to Shanghai to coach B.O.O.T., who recently finished in fourth place at the CS:GO Super League 2016 finals.

"I feel really happy to come back to Counter-Strike, this time as a coach for the Chinese team B.O.O.T," Örwall said in a statement.

"A while back I was approached by a friend who I got to know during my time in Fnatic, and he asked me if I would be interested in coaching the team he worked for.

"After a lot of thinking, as well as visiting the team’s training house in Shanghai, I came to the conclusion that this would be a fun challenge for me.

"We have a clear vision of what we want to achieve and we hope that an improved training regime, coupled with hard work, can speed up our improvement process moving forward.

"I think to be a part of Chinese e-sports at this point in time is very exciting, and moving to Shanghai will also be beneficial for one of my personal goals, to speak fluent Chinese, a project I set out on nine months ago."

B.O.O.T.'s team consist of:

China JiaMing "originalheart" Gu
China ZhongHao "Sa7" Yan
China MingHeng "Mh" Song
China Bochuan "SOLA" Lv
China ZhiHai "QKA" Fu

Duuuuuudddeeee!!! DSN so sick! Hopefully he has a great understanding of the tactical changes from 1.6 to GO. Dude was a beast back in the day!
2016-09-30 16:15
Yeah, a true legend. So weird that he's just moving from Sweden to China to coach some practical nonamers, after being away from CS for 5 years. Really fucking weird tbh. But I wish them the best of luck!
2016-10-01 00:18
Yeah man its pretty strange but he must see something in this team. Either that or he is looking at it as a paid vacation to china? lol
2016-10-01 00:46
He probably gets a lot of money. But who is this orga?
2016-10-01 00:47
Ive never heard of them or any of the players. They also generally have sub par ratings so it is definitely an interesting choice. He must see something great int he org, players, or hes getting paid great money. Either way I am curious to see what the results are!
2016-10-03 19:35
It must be the money
2016-10-03 19:37
It almost always is. Just looking at the ratings of these players Im baffled. If he was going to work with tyloo, cyber zen, born of fire, etc, that would make more sense. So he is basically getting paid bank to learn a language and be apart of the scene. Again, I wish them the best but it to an outsider like me it makes no sense. LOL
2016-10-05 21:35
It's the same in football lol. Good players get bought up by the Chinese league. The league is shit and nobody wants to play there, but the money those no-name clubs have is fucking ridiculous.

nah it's not the same, it's hard to coach and have enough tactical understanding when you haven't played yourself on high level
2016-09-30 14:35
?? Tactics are mostly the same wtf are you on about, it's only the mechanics of the game and skill that has changed lol, communicating also isn't something that has changed. Are you saying someone like lurppis or even thoorin would be bad coaches?

Maybe, maybe not. We've seen a fair share of 1.6 players trying to adapt into CSGO and failing miserably. Doesn't mean that you know how the new meta works or how the game works in general if you last played 1.6 on a good level. CSGO is very different compared to 1.6 in pretty much every aspect other than the name and some old map layouts.
2016-09-30 11:17
i understand what you're saying and maybe its true... but i feel someone like DSN even after stopping playing after fnatic will still have followed the game very closely and he probably understands and has a great knowledge of the game... even if he hasn't played a top level. Either way its good to have someone like him involved in the esports scene again... because in 1.6 he was one of the core players of the fnatic team that domiated for so long!
2016-09-30 11:23
True true, lets hope that things work out for him and the team. I just don't want to be super optimistic as it might not work out that well in the end. But we'll see. GL for them :)
2016-09-30 11:41
how many actually invested themselves into the game ?
2016-09-30 14:07
Not true. Tactics are still pretty much the same. There is no "meta" lmao this ain't LoL or dota
2016-09-30 14:25
Nah, even smoke grenades are different. In 1.6 you had to stack at least a couple of them for them to block vision. We have also new shit like molotovs and new maps. Also grenade throws differ. You can't just take your old 1.6 tactics and run them as they are in CSGO. Also the meta regarding economy / buying is different. Of course you can utilize your old skill-set and adapt it into CSGO but not everything works like 1.6 did... In 1.6 a single player could dominate the whole match if he was a god but in CSGO you (in my opinion) die a lot more easily. Also you can't spray down 5 guys with an M4/AK just like that even though that was very doable in 1.6. So weapons have changed a lot also. Long post with possibly stupid explanations but just wanted to prove my point that you cannot compare 1.6 and CSGO directly as many things have changed. Regarding the "meta" I do believe that there is one and it changes constantly, you can disagree if you want to. Just my 5 cents. Peace out bruh
2016-09-30 15:20
Yeah you can take old 1.6 tactics and do them better because of the different nades lol, also someone like dsn most likely can easily come up with new tactics. What you mentioned are just the mechanics of the game, takes you a few hours/days to get used to the nades in csgo. All you are mentioning are the mechanics that changed, i'm talking about the tactical side of the game, you are talking like he is gonna start playing again, then your comment would be 100% correct, but he's just coaching and he has a lot of experience from top tier teams, he knows how to play the game from a tactical point, how to communicate etc etc which will obviously help a new lower tier team with young players that don't have such experience. Not to mention he has followed the game for a while now. Meta changing would mean pros playing a completely different style without tactics and shit, since CSS and 1.6, it's pretty much been the same, you rush sites with tacticsand the CTs defend or push, that's the meta, and i don't think it will ever change.
2016-09-30 15:46
HE has followed the game closely.. he was there at majors and many other tournaments...

2016-09-30 11:44
doesn't actually say that. only that he set a goal 9 months ago to speak fluent chinese. it's possible he's been studying ever since, or hasn't studied at all, or anything in between. it's also possible he has been studying chinese for years, but only set the goal 9 months ago. none of this matters, of course :D but let's be specific and not make unnecessary assumptions.

Basically he is coaching random chinese team with 4 out of 5 players having lower rating than 0.9 in china region only that can't be compared with quality even to NA when we take whole competition and teams quality overall. On other hand, the guy was 1.6 player, coming to coach cs:go team. Probably good money for him and nice experience living in other culture. GL but this is gonna be irrelevant i believe

I saw his nick in the Active Threads and thought someone pulled a sick necro bait.
2016-09-30 12:44
Heh, this seems to be only a good opportunity for dsn.. I cannot see that a person who hasnt been involved in CSGO, can help that much in this day and age. Good luck at learning Chinese fluently. Not the easiest thing, speaking from experience and my friends experiences. Hopefully im wrong and they can succeed with this project!

dsn was an absolute god in 1.6, but i think this team would benefit more from an ex-csgo pro
2016-09-30 12:51
slight exaggeration, he was a top player, but he was no god for sure, today he would be called Happy cuz he was one of the first master baiters back then.
2016-09-30 14:46
amazing
2016-09-30 12:52

GL DSN and BOOT. Though I'm really not sure if it is gonna work well. New and advanced tactics for BOOT is true, but they need to work hard to fully execute the tactics.

Amazing how many fucking idiots are willing to hire guys who haven't played CS for years (or even played GO at the top level for that matter) to be coaches. dsn must be laughing his fucking head off.

2016-10-01 00:47
"for one of my personal goals, to speak fluent Chinese, a project I set out on nine months ago" ROFL never in a million years will he be able to do it...he might get to a good level...but not fluent still. gz and hf while doing it. DO they have a translator (it would be very expensive to have one...) ? I doubt that the players can speak english that well...
