Rambo joins MVP as coach

Former Team 3D member Ronald "Rambo" Kim has been announced as the new coach and strategist of Team MVP.

The North American veteran, who retired from gaming in 2008, will be moving into MVP's training house, located in Incheon, to help the organisation's squads, MVP Project and MVP PK, with the experience he garnered throughout his career.

Ronald "Rambo" Kim was part of X3, Team 3D and L.A. Complexity, three of the most successful North American Counter-Strike teams of the first ten years of the 2000s.

Rambo to coach Team MVP's squads

During this period, he won several international tournaments, including 2001 Speakeasy CPL, CPL Winter 2002, WCG 2004 and 2005, and the CGS 2007 Individual. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has been working as an Esports Marketing Specialist for BenQ North America since August 2015.

"Ever since I competed at the 2002 and 2003 World Cyber Games in South Korea, I have had a dream to experience living among my heritage," Kim said in a statement.

"With Korea being the “mecca” and birthplace of eSports and MVP leading the charge, it was an easy decision to pursue this opportunity.

"I’m excited to be a part of an organization with such passion and dedication to eSports. I want to thank Can Yang and Mr. Choi from MVP for letting me join their family."

Team MVP's announcement comes just two weeks after Chinese side B.O.O.T. hired former fnatic player Harley "dsn" Örwall as their full-time coach.

MVP Project recently made headlines by finishing third at the IeSF World Championship, which took place in Jakarta, while MVP PK, featuring some of the most decorated South Korean players of the last decade, are due to compete at the ZOTAC World Cup, in Hong Kong, later this month.

Well since hes joining the whole org. ofc he will be aviable to PK too. He might suggest thing or two to PK but its very likely that its gonna be mainly the MVP Project team coach not PK.
2016-10-14 15:46
Probably quite a bit, actually. Those Korean teams were heavily execute oriented, which wasn't entirely their fault, it was simply a lack of competition. He might impart more of a team-based structure, since a lot of Asian teams rely heavily on skill rather than teamwork.

eh, maybe I'm mistaken, but Rambo hasn't been in touch with CS scene for ages, so I don't know whether it's a good choice to pick him as a coach or not. But it's still nice to see guys from 3D etc. era coming back to the game.
2016-10-14 15:18
I spoke with him at MLG columbus and he had said that he hadnt touched cs in years. He played a lot of dota from what he was saying.

2016-10-14 21:53
who's random rambo?
2016-10-15 02:32
i really dont know either tbh, some twitch hero
2016-10-15 06:11
A lot of people here on hltv.org are new to the CS scene in general, so it's expected that they don't know players who were legends in the previous versions of CS. I'm also sure that a lot of people posting "Random Rambo" are just trolling, or so I hope lol.
2016-10-15 06:31
Im not new to this scene in any way, I still dont recognize either. But since checking up on this guy, I would hardly call him a legend. Could be why I dont recognize him ;)
2016-10-15 14:59
My point proven lol. Ronald "Rambo" Kim established himself as a legendary player in CS prior to 1.6, in 1.6, and a little bit in CS: Source. As for the MVP PK players, they're all legends from 1.6 with the exception of Zeff, who was a good but relatively unknown player in South Korea. At the very least, Rambo is a legend in NA and MVP PK in Korea. They were also top contenders and put up fights and even triumphed over many European teams. Team 3D and Project_Kr were very good teams.
2016-10-15 19:36
Yeah Team 3D was really good, but I dont remember him in the lineup, guessing getting old fucks up memory, Thanks for the story though =)
2016-10-16 19:37
The lineup used to be Rambo, Volcano, ShaGuaR, Method, and Moto. Later on, Dominator replaced Moto for a bit until they decided that they wanted someone with more experience. Then they removed Dominator to a backup position I believe. And no problem, stories are good to tell. I'm sure you could tell me a lot about the Swedish scene because back then I mainly followed TyLoo, 3D, Complexity, and bits and pieces of European teams (mainly NiP, fnatic, Golden 5, Gambit, and mousesports).
