DHW closed qualifier teams found

The open part of the DreamHack Zowie Open Winter qualifier has been played out, deciding the eight teams that will be joining the eight invited teams in the closed part of the qualifier that starts this Sunday.

Out of the 512 teams that participated in the open qualifier, the likes of PENTA, Rogue and DarkPassage made it through - with Buğra "Calyx" Arkın's team eliminating their countrymen in Space Soldiers in one of the most interesting upsets of the qualifier.

Calyx's DarkPassage eliminated Space Soldiers to make it to the closed qualifier

Three Spanish teams made it through as well - k1ck, EU4IA and KPI, with the Poles of PRIDE and iNation (featuring Viktor "flash" Tamás Bea and Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač) finishing of the list.

With the open part of the qualifier finished, the closed part will kick-off tomorrow at 12:00. The playoff will be played in a single-elimination best-of-three format until only two teams are left - meaning they have qualified for DreamHack Zowie Open Winter 2016.

The draw has resulted in the following matchups for the closed qualifier:

CIS FlipSid3 vs. Serbia iNation
Finland ENCE vs. Germany PENTA
Sweden Crowns vs. Turkey DarkPassage
Sweden Epsilon vs. Spain k1ck
Poland Kinguin vs. Spain EU4IA
Finland iGame.com vs. Spain KPI
Germany ALTERNATE aTTaX vs. Denmark Rogue
Kazakhstan Gambit vs. Poland PRIDE

DreamHack Zowie Open Winter 2016 will feature a $100,000 prize pool and take place from November 24-27. When the qualifier is finished, DreamHack will announce the remaining six teams that will compete at the event.

Schedule for the closed qualifier:

  • 12:00 - Round of 16
  • 15:00 - Quarter-finals
  • 18:00 - Semi-finals

just a sign that the scene is growing if tier 3 teams are being featured in one of the biggest lan events.

Darkpassage is not a nonamer team. And beating teams from your own country is hard if you are supposed to be the best in that country.
