Americas Minor closed qual. groups

The first open qualifier took place Sunday, with Selfless and Splyce earning the two first spots to the closed qualifier while paiN did the same yesterday. Today the last map of compLexity and Muffin Lightning’s match will decide the last team to join Echo Fox, Cloud9, TSM, and Immortals in the fight for four spots at the Americas Minor

Passed the first rounds of play in the open qualifier single elimination bracket, two bo3 rounds of 8 and semifinals took place to determine who would join the invited teams in the closed qualifier for the Americas Minor.

Selfless made it through in the first open qualifier after a forfeit win against Just Make it Fast and a 2-1 victory over paiN. Selfless took Overpass, 16-11; lost Mirage, 6-16; and prevailed on the decider map, Train, 16-13.

Cloud9's road to the Major will start tonight

On the other side of the bracket Splyce took on SweetNSour, cruising 2-0 in the round of 8, 13-3 on Overpass and 16-1 on Train. Their second match, this time against Complexity, was a bit more of a challenge but a 16-9 on Train and a 16-14 on Cobblestone were enough for Splyce to qualify for the next round.

The first team to qualify in the second open qualifier was paiN, who were just short of making it the first time around. They got a forfeit in the round of 8 against RONIN and beat Vault, 2-1. The Brazilian-Portuguese squad won Mirage 16-14, lost Cache 14-16, and then took Train 16-10 to earn a ticket to the closed qualifier over Michael "MAiNLiNE" Jaber’s team.

The last spot will be decided today at 18:00 when Complexity and Muffin Lightning play the deciding map in their semifinal match, which was postponed yesterday due to Complexity having to play ECS.

The two groups for the closed qualifier have been drawn, out of which four teams—the top two in each group—will make it to the Americas Minor at the ELEAGUE Arena in Atlanta on December 3-4. The groups are:

Group A Group B
United States Cloud9 Brazil Immortals
Canada TSM United States Echo Fox
United States Selfless Other Splyce
Brazil paiN Canada Complexity/United States Muffin Lightning

The first match-ups have also been revealed and will be:

United States Cloud9 vs. Brazil paiN
Canada TSM vs. United States Selfless
Brazil Immortals vs. Canada Complexity/United States Muffin Lightning
United States Echo Fox vs. Other Splyce

Immortals is alright, they have just slumped a bit. But yeah, depth and NA aren't 2 things that go together.

3 of their 5 are European. Valve rules state since the majority of the team is from Europe, they have to play in European qualifiers.

I have faith in Echo Fox to win maps here. As bad as their performance was it was to a top 10 team and a top 3 team in the world. They are easily better than all the teams that got in through the open qualifier.

Why is the actual minor only 4 teams? wth is this, almost no chance for upsets like this. (I guess this was the point, to avoid C9 playing a lot of matches with a chance they might fuck up).

Group A should go to c9 easily. C9 has really seemed to start shining. Whereas earlier in the year, we saw them as a team only good online, now it looks like with the addition of autimatic, they're becoming really competitive at LAN too. TSM has taken maps from top teams such as SK but overall, they aren't as good as c9. Their roster surprisingly stacked with up and coming talent though. Players like SicK, relyks, and twistzz (now tw1st¿) could easily go to a top NA team. I think TSM, with a roster change to either FNS or Semphis, can become a really good NA team. Selfless also has a pretty good roster. Brehze, no_one, and nifty are a really good core but they need another couple months to develop into a top NA team. As for PaiN, I've only seen a couple of matches they've played in what I believe to be the ECS Development League. They actually don't look awful and they could easily take maps off of teams like Selfless and TSM. They were capable of taking maps from selfless and immortals, so I'm excited to see them play. Overall, if c9 doesn't win Group A get to the major qualifier, then all of their accomplishments are undone and it's time for a roster change. Group B is a little more confusing for me. Without a doubt, Echo Fox and Immortals are the top teams in the group. However, while most people will expect Immortals to take group B, I think Echo Fox has a really good opportunity to redeem themselves from ELEAGUE and win group B. Let's not forget that EF got sweeped by the top teams in the world. While it's still extremely embarrassing and probably has affected the mentality of the team, this same team denied Liquid from qualifying for ELEAGUE. Also, Immortals are having their own problems as well. They're being leaded by an in game leader who is having horrendous performance issues, not to mention the fact that he might not even be on the roster. If Steel happens to play the qualifier in place of Zews, things wouldn't be much better because I'd imagine he doesn't even have much practice with either his team or against the NA teams. The rest of the teams in group B shouldn't be able to make it out of the groups. Splyce looks like a failed experiment. Their team only won like 2 games in the latest ESL Pro League and the same goes with Complexity (and I believe that both teams got relegated). The difference between Complexity and Splyce is that Complexity has a more promising roster for the future of NA. The two NA players on Splyce are both old or washed up. While DAVEY and Arya can still perform on the odd occasion, they won't ever be on a top NA team. While the EU imports on Splyce aren't bad (CRUC1AL looks pretty good and Acilion isn't awful although his time on SK was pretty bad), they won't be in NA forever so we can't really look at the Splyce roster with confidence that it will be around for the major that will follow the ELEAGUE major. Thus, I won't count them into the big picture of them being on other NA teams. However, Complexity has a couple of players that could develop into top NA players. Androidx23, and Dephh looks extremely good. While Dephh is from the UK, unlike the EU imports, I'd imagine he will stay in NA for as long as he plays professional counter strike because to be honest, the British scene doesn't really have a legitimate professional team. Finally, for Muffin Lightning, they are the underdog team just like Pain. They took a BO3 against Echo Fox, but that's about the only thing I've seen ML do. GL to them, but I don't expect them to get out of their group. This is so long and I don't think anyone will read it but I had to vent :)
