CIS Minor playoffs under way

The CIS Minor currently taking place in St. Petersburg made it to the upper bracket semifinals, with four teams left to fight for two spots at the ELEAGUE Major’s main qualifier in Atlanta.

The first of the two semifinals is already under way as the favored team to twin the Minor, Spirit, is taking on Nikolaj "kalinka" Rysakov’s VwS. One map in, it is the Russian side leading 1-0 after a 16-3 Mirage.

DavCost's Spirit have proven to be one of the strongest so far

The Lithuanians made it to the semifinals by beating Dmitry "hooch" Bogdanov’s RoX in Group A’s opener and decider, on Overpass and Cache, 16-7 and 16-2 respectively. Meanwhile, Vadim "DavCost" Vasilyev’s Spirit made it out of Group B in first place by beating both Kazakh teams, zARLANS and Tengri, the latter in a 30 round nail biter on Cache.

The second semifinal will pit Quantum Bellator Fire and ALLIN, the latter team being where Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov and Dmitriy "jR" Chervak are currently plying their trade.

Quantum Bellator Fire lost their first match to Tengri, 16-14, beat zARLANS without a problem, 16-1, to bounce back from the losers’ match, and then took revenge on Tengri in a second 30 round map. On the other hand ALLIN were the most dominant team in Group A giving up the lowest amount of rounds (12) in their two group stage matches, both ending 16-6, against RoX and VwS.

The upper bracket semifinal match-ups:

Russia Spirit vs. Lithuania VwS
Russia ALLIN vs. Russia Quantum Bellator Fire

This is what’s on the line for the remaining four teams:

3. - $5,000

it's fucking retarded that CIS gets the same amount of spots as EU... look at these trash teams that get a free pass to the major qualifier over the likes of epsilon, SS and heroic

The CIS minor is totally wasted when Gambit/Flipsid3 and NaVi are already legends, there's simply no good teams remaining that could play in the CIS minor. I think there's a definite problem with the system when the weakest team at the EU minor could take first at the CIS minor and they both get 2 spots.

But Minors are also about developing regions, I don't think these teams actually expect to qualify but a $30,000 prize can def keep them afloat and together for a while
