C9 and TyLoo win Group A openers

The first opener pitted Cloud9 and FlipSid3, and ended with the North American side stomping their way through Overpass, 16-4. TyLoo then put on a second half comeback against Echo Fox on Mirage, winning 16-13 in their match.

FlipSid3 and Cloud9 kicked the iBP Masters off in their opening best-of-one on Overpass. FlipSid3 took the pistol round with three frags by Jan "wayLander" Rahkonen and two by Yegor "markeloff" Markelov. The pistol armor panned out for Cloud9, though, as three early kills and access to the B site saw markeloff and Owen "smooya" Butterfield try to save weapons to no avail.

Cloud9 get an easy first win against FlipSid3

From then on, it was the Cloud9 show, and the American team exploited the map to their will, breaking into sites and winning duels all the way to a 13-2 half. FlipSid3 were able to win the pistol round and the follow-up, but it was too little too late as Cloud9 shut FlipSid3 down 16-4.

The second opening match of Group A saw Echo Fox and TYLOO go head to head on Mirage. Echo Fox stopped a B push by the Chinese team and were able to bag the pistol round and the two following rounds. A slow play by TYLOO, though, allowed them to get possession of A late in the round and close it out to not allow Echo Fox to run away with an early lead.

TyLoo edged past Echo Fox on Mirage

Ten rounds in, the half was at a stalemate wit 5-5 on the board, but it was ultimately Echo Fox who managed to get the upper hand, winning four out of the last five rounds to get the 9-6 lead before the switch. Three huge headshots by Hui "DD" Wu on the pistol round gave TYLOO some much needed breathing room, especially after the ecos with 9-9 on the board.

Both teams stayed neck-and-neck, trading rounds back and forth all the way to a 12-12 tie. Echo Fox were able to turn the game around, winning the 13th and putting TYLOO against the ropes, in a full eco. The Chinese team, however, found their way back in winning the eco, and smashing it home against a completely tilted Echo Fox, 16-13.
