OpTic have completed another upset to triumph at ELEAGUE Season 2 following a 2-1 win over Astralis (Train 9-16, Cobblestone 16-6, Overpass 16-11).
On their own pick, Train, Astralis began wreaking havoc from the get-go, picking up the pistol round and the first gunround as Terrorists on their way to a 5-0 lead. The domination continued despite a few close rounds, as the Danes went on to go up 9-0 before OpTic responded.
Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz's clutch double and Keith "NAF" Markovic's quad-kill on ivy gave them two rounds in a row, before a close retake on the B bombsite went the other way. In the end, Astralis switched over at a decisive 11-4 and topped it off with another pistol round victory for 13-4.
Astralis took Train on the back of a fantastic Terrorist side
The second map was Cobblestone, where it was OpTic who got a great start that time around, getting seven rounds in a row. Nicolai "device" Reedtz then stepped up to the plate with a 1v3 clutch, but a powerful takeover on the B bombsite crushed their economy, as the North American team picked up where they left off and got to 11-1.
OpTic secured another upset to get their first big international trophy
The decider, Overpass, started with the teams trading rounds until it was 2-1 for OpTic, who stabilized the situation and won the next two half-buy rounds. Winning a 2v2 situation on the B bombsite, they forced Astralis on an eco and another successful attack ended with the Danes saving two weapons.
Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen's quad-kill with one of the saved guns gave his team the next round, but that was traded once again by their opponents. Astralis opted for a forcebuy and finally strung more rounds together, as Null element and Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye combined for five kills. Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth then won a fabulous 1v3 clutch thanks to great play in a smoke in a retake on A, and dupreeh clutched a 1v1 on the same bombsite to climb back to seven rounds as CT.
With NAF's quad-kill in the pistol and stanislaw's double opening in the first gunround, OpTic pushed the score to 12-7. device then turned up after a poor showing up to that point, winning a very quick 1v4 at the B bombsite. Astralis's economy got reset right after and they decided to forcebuy anyway, but to no avail, as OpTic got to match point at 15-8.
Another poor buy towards the B bombsite worked out, however, as the Northern Arena champions saved two weapons, and Xyp9x's quad lowered the deficit to 15-11. The climb back ended there though, as OpTic secured the map and the series to clinch the trophy and $400,000 in prizemoney.
