OpTic to ECS semi-finals over FaZe
With a 2-1 victory over FaZe (Train 16-10, Nuke 15-19, Cache 16-4), OpTic secured a spot in the ECS Season 2 semi-finals, where they'll meet EnVyUs tomorrow.
Thanks to two bomb plants, FaZe bought up in the third round and Fabien "kioShiMa" Fiey started wreaking havoc with a quad-kill and a double in a 2v2. With a smart fake, Finn "karrigan" Andersen's team got up to 4-2 before the next two rounds were exchanged.
After struggling early on each side, OpTic got on two big streaks to win Train
From there on, OpTic got the defense on lockdown, decimating every attack with relative ease to get all of the remaining seven rounds in the half for a 10-5 lead.
FaZe didn't let their opponents run away with the map easily, as they put up five rounds in a row at the beginning of the second half. However, OpTic then figured out a way past FaZe's defense, getting six rounds in a row to win map one at 16-10.
Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz's fancy three kills against a ramp attack kicked off Nuke, FaZe's pick, for a 3-0 lead. Being up against a couple of SMG's, the ELEAGUE semi-finalists picked up a clean round on the lower bombsite, but once OpTic got all the rifles, everything was working for them.
Shutting down every execute round after round, the North American side reached 12-1 before FaZe finally found a footing in the match with the last two rounds.
After dropping the first three rounds, OpTic went back to winning ways on the back of Keith "NAF" Markovic's entry kills on the upper site. FaZe converted the next forcebuy into a round win and another when they were up against match point, which gave them a chance in the match.
kioShiMa's 1v3 clutch saved FaZe's chances on Nuke
FaZe then woke up and put up several great defenses until it was 15-12. OpTic then had a huge chance to close out the series, but kioShiMa saved the day with a 1v3 clutch. That forced OpTic on a couple of poor forcebuys, but neither of them worked as the map went to overtime. FaZe continued to lock down the defense and completed the comeback with a 19-15 win to force the decider, Cache.
FaZe then forced OpTic to save three guns with a powerful A attack and kioShiMa won a 1v1 due to smart positioning in an afterplant on B. stanislaw's side then took over again with an aggression towards main, which set off another big streak.
NAF was the hero of some of the following rounds, including one where he got three noscopes in close range on A, and a 1v1 clutch on the same bombsite later on in the half. Thanks to a powerful defense, OpTic racked up 12 rounds before the sides swapped.
The first two rounds of the second half were exchanged due to marvellous individual plays: Philip "aizy" Aistrup got a quick quad-kill on A in the pistol, mixwell replied with a Deagle triple combined with a 1v1 in the following forcebuy. That practically secured the map for OpTic, who survived all of the forcebuy attempts from FaZe and advanced to semi-finals at 16-4.
