chopper: Didn't prepare for NiP at all
Vega Squadron pulled off one of the biggest upsets ever by eliminating NiP from the ELEAGUE Major Main Qualifier. To hear about the match and how they managed to defeat the Ninjas, HLTV.org talked with Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov.
After the match, we had a chance to talk with one of the standout players of the team - Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov - who revealed more about the game.
The match just finished but no way you could've expected it to go this way. What were your thoughts after seeing the draw and getting NiP, maybe the hardest opposition you could've drawn out?
After the first three days we knew that we did some mistakes and we knew that we were not playing our game. We made silly mistakes, we got six rounds against G2, we got eight rounds against Immortals but it wasn't like it seems, the games were closer. Coming into the match against NiP we just talked, we didn't change anything, we still wanted to play our own game and them to adapt to us, not the other side around.
How were you able to counter them so well, did you do anything special in terms of preparing for the match?
We didn't prepare for them at all, we didn't even know which map we would play. What we did was just sat at the computer and tried to play as simple as we could. That way we wouldn't make the game complicated for us and have bigger chances to make mistakes.
Then what do you think is the biggest difference between the last games you lost and this one against NiP? What made you win here?
It's simple, everything we did worked so we didn't have to think about something new - how to play, what rounds to play. All we did worked so it was easy for us in that way.
Vega Squadron kept things simple against NiP
How do you feel now, what do you think this win means for you as a team?
The experience that we gained from that match... we can still win big games against tier 1 teams. It gives us confidence, we know that if we play our game that we can win against anyone.
What do you think this mean with all the people that discredited the CIS Minor? Any words for them?
As Lk- said in his interview, if you look at the team list at the Major there are already three CIS teams there, and we are not done yet. Let's see how it ends.
