ELEAGUE Major first round match-ups

January 5th, 2017 23:18

The match-ups for ELEAGUE Major's first round of the Swiss system have been drawn on ELEAGUE's stream.

ELEAGUE's Major will be the first Major to utilize the Swiss format, which was previously used at the last two Main Qualifiers and ESL One New York.

In that format, each round will see teams with the same win-loss record facing each other after a random draw, apart from the first round where the matches have been pre-determined.

Virtus.pro will lock horns with OpTic in the first round

Teams who reach three victories will advance to the quarter-finals, while teams with three losses will exit the tournament.

The sixteen teams were spread into four seeding pools according to their placing at the previous Major and the Main Qualifier, which partially determined the first-round match-ups (first pool versus the fourth, second versus third).

Kazakhstan Gambit  vs. Denmark North
Sweden fnatic vs. France G2
Brazil SK vs. Europe HellRaisers
Poland Virtus.pro  vs. North America OpTic
CIS Natus Vincere  vs. Europe mousesports
United States Liquid vs. France EnVyUs
Denmark Astralis vs. Sweden GODSENT
CIS FlipSid3 vs. Europe FaZe

The entire first round will be played on day one of the ELEAGUE Major, which is set to take place in the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, from January 22-29.

2017-01-06 09:53
Why do you think nv has any chance vs liquid?
2017-01-05 23:32
i believe in them
2017-01-05 23:42
Liquid doesnt have s1mple this time, and elige alone wont be enough. nV will win it ez

United States morkmodkip
IF kennys plays god like, then i favor envy, but if elige plays god like, then i think liquid take it. I think it will be very close tho.
2017-01-06 00:20
Well yeah thats true i guess, in teams like this it all comes down to which players actually show up i suppose.. But i think nV has more quality players anyway
2017-01-06 00:42
I think of it this way, liquid came second at the last major, envy came 8th? Envy are about to roster change depending on the major, liquid are stuck with this lineup and can only get better.
2017-01-06 01:09
Yeah but there's no denying that s1mple played a huge part in that. Doesn't take away from Elige's performance though, he was godlike. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. But I'm still giving nV the edge here

2017-01-05 23:32
And there's going to be a french shuffle. You really think Sixer and Happy are going into this tournament that motivated knowing they're being left out of the shuffle?
2017-01-05 23:34
ScreaM was also left out, we're not gonna see any one taps. S1mple > coldzera > niko.
2017-01-06 00:07
United States morkmodkip
the only differnce between screaM and sixer/happy, is that scream can pretty much join any team.
2017-01-06 00:21
bro, do you really think that SIXER wouldn't try his hardest in his first ever major (especially with 1mil prize pool) and Happy wouldn't work his ass off knowing this might be his last major for a couple?
2017-01-06 00:43
Ya, I can see that. Makes sense. I guess it depends how strong they are at pushing through adversity.

2017-01-05 23:25
g2? with the french shuffle inbound? pretty sure itll be a shitshow for the french teams throughout.
2017-01-05 23:27
i'm sure both teams are going to be trying their asses off tho hypothetically if one of them won the tournament (yea i know, long shot) you never know what could happen
2017-01-05 23:32
yeah its gonna be great for example for scream, who thinks he got absolutely ass fucked by his captain shox in the shuffle. bet the team chemistry is gonna be top notch.
2017-01-05 23:38
I think this is the best thing for scream.. he's very talented and i have no doubt that he can get on a better team
2017-01-05 23:39
i think the best thing for scream woulda been to be included in the french super team. now whats gonna happen is hes gonna play with the leftovers and make a tier2-3 team or even get left out completely. doesnt sound that promising tbh.
2017-01-05 23:46
I dunno.. scream has a very large fan base. I don't think he will settle for a tier 2-3 team and there's a strong possibility that other big organizations will see the opportunity to pick up an excellent player only time will tell i suppose, but i really don't think he's going to be a free agent for long
2017-01-05 23:49
he doesnt have that much opportunity. his english isnt very good. he already tried the faze roster. it didnt work out that well for him. he could move to NA but even there, who would he join? fuckin TSM or some shit. = tier2-3. he could always get his stream back up to at least make a ton of money. he was pretty successful with that. but i dont think he'll make it on a top10 team.
2017-01-05 23:51
United States morkmodkip
Who knows, if he does decide to join an NA team, liquid might want him instead of pimp. Or c9 could replace someone like shroud for Scream.

2017-01-06 19:05
Fox is so shit I wouldn't want him to represent an entire country. So, I listed him as his own Statistic. I did it for your own Dignity. Your Welcome
2017-01-06 19:46
thats why In Europe everyone knows Americans as dumb and uneducated. This is really true, I'm not kidding.
2017-01-06 22:45
Hmmmmm. That must be why all the EU kids that did the foreign exchange program back in High school were in all of the slow track classes like Business Math. If you weren't from India or some other developed Asian Country, this was the fate of all nearly all of the exchange students. The fact that you think me including Fox as part of the Majors nationality demographic is anything other than a joke further reinforces the stereotype that 90% of European countries are poverty ridden 3rd world attention sponges. Generally, when confronted with hard truths, said sponges latch onto the developed countries surrounding them as if their country is cut from the same cloth.
2017-01-06 23:35
Europe literally made your country , we colonize you , you are the 3 world country compare to us you dumbass.
2017-01-06 23:55
The world was colonized by splinter groups from the middle east and Africa...... Your statement infers that splinter groups are doomed to forever be less developed than the group they are departing from. The thought you put into your responses must be dismal. Otherwise your just furthering my stance on the 3rd world EU education system. Probably the latter considering your so triggered by my fox joke. Whats the saying? "Less educated anger easier"

My "wild" guess: Gambit-North - North should take the Win Fnatic-G2 - Hard one.. Could go both ways imo, Shox/Scream vs Dennis/Twist, ofc all the players in both teams are really really good and this match is gonna be a close one, well atleast it should be a close one. SK-Hellraisers - SK SHOULD have this one, Better players, no Oskar for HR, but sure they have other good players, like Deadfox, but i think SK will "W" this one. VP-Optic - 2 reaaally good teams facing each other, both have showed us that they have good forms and this could go both ways, the odds are slightly more towards VP tho. Navi-Mouz - Navi is kinda bad at the moment, Mouz have "W`s" against NIP, Dignitas and Immortals, so Mouz got a good chance here. Liquid-Envyus - Well well, This match comes down to aim and skill, Envy got sick players like KennyS, Happy and Apex (Imo the 3 best players in Envy atm) But Liquid got amazing players like Elige, Nitro & Hiko, and ofc they have JDM, but KennyS is way better awper imo) Astralis-Godsent - This match is a must watch match! With players like Flusha, Device, Kjaerbye, Dupreeh and JW, (ofc Lekro can show up as well). I think this matchup will be great! Flipsid3-FaZe - Ok, Flipsid3 could upset this match (they have done that shit many times before) but i think this will be a "W" for FaZe, (Better players, Better aim and so on).
2017-01-05 23:45
Agreed with almost all of the predictions/guesses. Gambit-North : North Fnatic-G2 : I'll go with fnatic, not sure what your prediction is :) SK-HR : SK VP-Optic : VP Navi-Mouz : Despite Navi being the big name they are and with the big players, I'm going to go with mouz getting the upset here Liquid-Envyus : Liquid Astralis-Godsent : Astralis Flipside-Faze : Faze I feel with the news around the Shox-Kenny team that is going to be formed after the major, some of the players from g2/envyus might feel a bit demotivated/uneasy. They could even want to prove a point and go out all guns blazing. I'm going with the former though :)
2017-01-06 10:11
Good matchups :) But I'll probably only watch the play-offs. I dislike BO1 matches in general and most teams doesn't interest me. VP/Godsent/Gambit games will probably be watched though :)

They still have a good chance to make a quarter final. I would consider them better than f3, gambit, fnatic(depends on how well the players are playing.) They are pretty evenly matched with envy. I think they could play close with faze, Maybe they could also play close with mousesports. So they have good odds to make atleast a quarterfinal. They could also upset one of the top teams because its a best of 1.

I think that SK-HR matchup will be really great. SK with stand-in and current HR form is really decent rn (scalps of mouz,nip,c9 in qual.)

I do not dare to give predictions because everything depends on the maps. Even the likely "easy games" can reserve surprises.
