IEM Katowice 2017 details out

ESL have revealed the details for IEM Katowice 2017 which will offer $250,000 in cash prizes.

The tournament will feature twelve teams, eight of which will be invited. The qualifiers will hand out four spots.

Running from March 1-5, the event will have two groups of six teams. The group stage will feature a best-of-one, round-robin format. The group winners will qualify for the semi-finals while the second and third teams from opposite groups will face each other in order to advance to the semis.

IEM Katowice returns to the Spodek Arena

The qualifiers will hand out three spots in Europe and one in North America. In Europe, two open qualifiers will take place where an undisclosed number of teams will earn a spot in the closed qualifier. The closed qualifier will also feature invited teams. The North American qualifier will use the same format except it will only have one open qualifier.

The group stage will take place on the first two days and will be close to the public while the playoffs running from March 3-5 will be in the Spodek Arena. You can secure your tickets by clicking here.

Pride>Godsent
2017-01-10 21:15
BIG is the next german top team.. stop sucking mousesports dick stupid fangay. It was a very close game vs Mouse and they are a new team.
2017-01-10 21:19
big pracced only 1 week together
2017-01-10 21:31
And that's why BIG > Mousesports
2017-01-10 21:37
Dude, big will never play at a major with this squad, they just cant cuz they have bot b and legija(2 igls that are always bottom fraggers) if they want to perform they need to kick bot b as legija has a bit more aim.
2017-01-11 12:37
BIG new they had to play mouz and therefore practiced their mappick (cobble), mouz mappick (cache) and hoped for a good decider map. Mirage was a good map for them, but not good enough after that short time. But yes, they definitely got potential
2017-01-10 22:19
Not really that line up is terrible af, Tabsen has to carry hard af with those 4 bots on his team. I want them to do good but they just suck so bad as a team, you have to feel bad for Tabsen the guy deserves a better team he's the best German player without a doubt.
2017-01-11 03:41

2017-01-10 20:10
If no other big events nearby, it's a one to attend. Amazing crowd probably motivates teams.
2017-01-10 20:37
Amazing crowd? Has to be told by Taz not to BUU Fnatic when they won over VP. That is the definition of a horrible audience.
2017-01-10 21:05
That was ESL Cologne and it was NiP fans booing but whatever..
2017-01-10 21:07
This is when a normal HLTV kid would say "baited". But since I'm actually an adult, I will say: my mistake, I stand corrected! However I seriously doubt you can prove that it was NIP fans. But I was wrong about it being Katowice.
2017-01-10 21:15
Respect sir!
2017-01-10 21:26
No, it wasn't NiP fans. Sure, they might be fans of NiP but they wholeheartedly were first and foremost VP fans. They could have been fans of anyone to be honest. Cloud 9, Dignitas, Na'Vi. But first and foremost they were VP fans.

lol.. If not you don't know, don't write
2017-01-10 21:11
I admitted I was wrong, more than 99,999999% of hltv users would ever do. The booing crowed was still VP fans (maybe not as first team but more VP than Fnatic fans) so it is not that much of a stretch to think the same thing could happen in Katowice. Them VP fans not really know for their modesty.
2017-01-10 21:20
They are very energetic, someone would even say that the energy there is ELECTRIC :P
2017-01-10 21:11
XD
2017-01-11 12:02
why they shouldn't attend one of the most prestigious tournaments?
2017-01-10 20:47
IEM Katowice even with such 'small' price pool is still one of the most important events for the pro teams in CS:GO.
2017-01-10 21:02
Why would no one attend one of the best, most hyped events of the year?

2017-01-10 20:06
still 250k tho? why
2017-01-10 20:06
it's not a big league, like epl or eleague, so 250k is enough i think
2017-01-10 20:09
its not enough man, someday another major will appear and will replace it because, moneywise, it doesnt give enough it must grow soon
2017-01-10 21:53
Lol no one offers big money unless it's a league or a major. Most tournaments are 100k etc... 250k is still good enough. Don't say wesg, it's a one off new event.

It's "just" IEM, not Major so...I think 250k is still good prizepool.

2017-01-10 20:08
IEM Katowice is still one of the most important events to pro teams ;)
2017-01-10 21:04
no
2017-01-10 21:13
I guess that players would care about tier3 tournament with 1kk more than iem with 250k :C
2017-01-11 00:21
It's not ESL fault it's Valve fault cuz they don't want to make a IEM major anymore.
2017-01-11 16:53
250k lol expect tier 2-3 teams to play here
2017-01-10 20:09
"ESL have revealed the details for IEM Katowice 2017 which will offer $250,000 in cash prizes." Nice ESL... but still all the best teams come here, because in Katowice is a magical atmosphere
2017-01-11 10:31
Hmm really makes you wonder if MTG will hold another major in the future, or if Valve are exclusively dealing with the NA organizers now.
2017-01-10 20:10
afaik there will be 2 majors each year - 1 in NA 1 in EU.
2017-01-10 20:13
250k $ in 2017 LUL....

LUL 250k tournaments in 2017 who cares LUL dogshit event compared to WESG
2017-01-10 20:14
WESG can have more money in prizes but they will not have the atmosphere and interests as Katowice. Money is not everything. I wonder if in China will be a lot of spectators in the stands and special effects like in Katowice BUT 250K is not good. Thanks ESL.
2017-01-11 10:37
IEM 250k ? ? ? omg gg wp easy
2017-01-10 20:18
miserly ESL fucks, $250k... at least the qualifier spots are good this time, only 1 NA
2017-01-10 20:18
Should be easy for Fnatic
2017-01-10 20:19
it should be at least 750k for a tournament like katowice probably organizers minds stopped at 2014 or something lol

2017-01-10 20:34
events in Poland are fucking amazing, can't wait for this event. I just wish that the prize pool was a little bit bigger is all. also that it was a major as well, I dislike most of the events being in NA so it would have been a nice change for a Major.
2017-01-10 20:35
so the exact same as last year?
2017-01-10 20:43

2017-01-17 02:33
Entry is free but people stand in front of Spodek since like 5 AM so its better to buy a ticket.
