VP edge North in a thriller series

Virtus.pro win an incredible series against North with a 2-1 scoreline (16-4 Overpass, 12-16 Cache, 16-13 Cobblestone) to move on to the semi-finals.

Overpass, the first map of the series, started poorly for North. The Danes kicked off their map pick by losing the Terrorist pistol round which was brought to an end with Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski knifing Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke, however, the worst was yet to come.

After losing the first gun round and being 5-0 down to Virtus.pro, North managed to plant the bomb for the first time, only to be denied the round by a 1v1 clutch from Filip "NEO" Kubski. The dominance of the Poles continued as they shut down Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen's team map control efforts early, not allowing them to execute on the bomb sites.

Snax picked up an anti-eco Ace in the bathroom area to make it 8-0 for Virtus.pro allowing the plow to roll on. It was already 11-0 when North finally secured two entry kills and then traded a kill on Paweł "byali" Bieliński while entering the B bombsite and looked likely to secure their first round. Unfortunately for them, Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas and Snax combined to retake the site an unlikely situation, kicking it off with a crucial HE granade kill.

Pasha was pretty immersed in the Overpass game

North finally got on the board in the last round of the first half, but moving into the second half 14-1 down and with the main stars of the team k0nfig, René "cajunb" Borg and Emil "Magisk" Reif not performing—it was just a matter of time before Virtus.pro closed out the map and it was 16-4 in the end.

North managed a better start to the second map, Cache, securing the pistol and first gun round to go 4-0 up. However, a sloppy anti-eco from the Danes allowed Virtus.pro to get their first round off of a simple B rush that started a series of round wins for Jarosław "pashaBiceps" Jarząbkowski and co.

Virtus.pro took the lead shortly, but a combination of MSL's aggressive play in a smoke in mid, cajunb's AWPing and Magisk's rifling allowed North to take the lead back and finish the half 9-6.

Following the terrorist pistol round win, North extended their lead to 14-7 before Virtus.pro finally managed to string some rounds together and fortified their economy. Snax and NEO brought out the double AWP setup in round 25 and got to a 12-15 scoreline utilizing it the two snipers effectively. That way all they could get though, as North kept their patience and successfully faked out the defending side to close out the game 16-12.

ruggah and cajunb high-fiving after winning Cache

On the third map, Cobblestone, Magisk stopped Virtus.pro's A site offensive with a USP-S ace, setting North up for a strong start in the decider.

After losing the first gun round, Virtus.pro managed to get the following one despite very low utility to make it 1-4, but couldn't continue with the momentum and were promptly reset. After a few eco's, Virtus.pro got another round, pushing the B site from multiple angles simultaneously - but lost the following round again, putting them on another eco.

Overall it was a Magisk show—the 18-year-old Dane dominated the often low economy Virtus.pro in the first half, finishing it with 29 kills for a 12-3 North lead. Virtus.pro started the second half strongly, winning the pistol and then proceeding to do what the Danish team did to them - kept them on a low economy and won the clutches.

At 11-13, North got good entries, put a bad plant from k0nfig denied cajunb the opportunity to hold the after plant. Soon after, the game was tied at 13-13 as the Poles managed another retake, this time a 3v2 on the A site.

With the game coming down to the wire and Virtus.pro's comeback looking more and more likely, North was coming close to getting rounds but were unable to get more than one Terrorist side round and let the map and series slip with a 16-13 scoreline.

Once again Virtus.pro showed how they plow on majors and made it to semifinals. I think VP wants to more cobblestone packages involved in the market thats why they lost cache and lost rounds on purpose at cobblestone there is no other explanation of going under throw mode and making comeback with plow mode :D Magisk was absolute beast on first half of cobblestone and almost dropped 30 bomb, that guy is so much promising. Hats up to cajunb thou almost performed as good as Spiidi on overpass bet soon both will receive offers from MI6.

2017-01-28 03:51
rip 16-0 though :( also GOD PASHA
2017-01-28 10:12
The best? In what exactly aspect? North losing 4-16 on their mappick is something we should remember about? Or those "extremely close" halves like 12-3 13-1? The best matches are usually close, like 8-7 8-7 or 9-6 7-8. But 3-12 1-13 halves mean both teams literally sucked cock on the offense, what is that good about it?
2017-01-28 11:25
Because of momentum shifting basically. If you dont see anything in team recovering from being destroyed on the prev map or fighting back a 3-12 score than ok, it as boring for you.
2017-01-28 15:24
Momentum is a cool thing, but the better thing to watch is something called a not choking team. That's why I mentioned close halves. When a team takes only a couple of rounds on one side, it means they prepared nothing or it just didn't work at all. For me, it's most interesting to watch when teams are equally good on both sides and you don't know who will win till the last second of the last round. I love close matches, close in terms of teams' strength on both sides, it's much more interesting than to watch let's say VeryGames - NiP 13-2 0-14 on nuke, like who the fuck can enjoy how bad the both teams were on the T side?

naive attempt to bite me personally, not impressive at all sadly :-)
2017-01-28 17:57
You should switch to NA scene. There has been a lot of 16:14's and no clear contender for 5 years. Nobody knows who is the best there, a lot of excitement!
2017-01-28 18:04
I will switch to it when they start really competing with EU top teams like VP and Astralis, or at least vs SK.

I'd rather say North lost the game instead of VP winning... k0nfig player like he was alone in the team, he lost them two rounds on T, one on A with that shit plant without caring about the balcony when they could not cover him that deep, MSL had only the drop off and idk who had the door on ramp. They also did not clear CT spawn so he could have died before... And that one round on T when they were rushing B with smokes, he just ran without checking anything, as if VP would give them a free site... They have to slap him in the face for these kind of stuff, just like the fucking knife on overpass, Jesus, he's playing like it doesn't matter. cajunb whiffed two ez kills on B when they were taking it slowly which ended them losing two rounds (the first one when he saved the awp and the second one). MSL did call only twice an A default were they are taking long/danger & mid control (which is their best default), why? Also he did a fucking stupid move last round when his teammates got two kills on A (one door & one APC), and he decides to push through a smoke, what a smart move... All these wasted rounds, seriously, that made me really mad. How can you choke that hard :s Also nice display from pasha, it's been a long time I did not see him that focused, he did not overpeek as he usually does, he landed some nice smokes/flashes without missing any (not usual :D), and his aim was sharp and his movements on point.

great stats by pasha, finally good performance by him

Performed solid vs Optic, good vs Gambit and I can give you many more good performances he had in 2016 (where he had obviously many bad performances aswell)

Good to see old Pasha on top - so many people have called him bot pasha over the last two years. Sad that North was so shell shocked on overpass, and that MSL insisted on hitting the same bombsite over and over and over and over and over, when clearly it wasn't working. And the very late timeout on Cbble. I think it wasn't until it was 13-13 that he called a timeout?
