Kjaerbye: "We never gave up"

We grabbed the MVP, Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye, for an interview following Astralis' hard-fought victory over Virtus.pro at the ELEAGUE Major.

Astralis' grand final with Virtus.pro was one of the closest finals we've ever had at a Major, as each map went to double digits and either team had a chance to win any of the maps.

We talked to Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye about Astralis' triumph at 16-14 on Train and the close series overall. He also touched on what their sports psychologist has helped him with the most:

Looks like TaZ received the fact that Astralis "underperformed" as arrogance: twitter.com/g5taz/status/825803377523187..

Wtf? Lol how would taz react/tweet if they get a beating on next match up against astralis. That is such a salty comment
2017-01-30 03:47
VP deserved the win more, definately played better the whole tournament. Astralis getting crushed by Godsent on train in groups etc. I had really hoped for a VP win. Atleast there was a small win, Kjaerbye got the MVP medal and not dev1ce.

Kjaerbye stfu and give some respect to VP you little kid. Saying "we're underperformed" after you win it means "it was close because we didn't play it at full strength", since now Astralis for me is the same as SK, meaning I'm rooting against them till they retire.

Dude, if I say "i mean no offence, i respect you, but fuck you", do all those words of "respect" change anything about the words "fuck you"? I don't think so. "We were definitely better and would win easily if we played like we really could, but I respect VP" - dude, the second part doesn't change anything about the first part.

They just failed to pistols, it happens and it doesn't mean somebody underperformed, lol. It's no 1.6 where pistols were useless.
2017-01-29 22:39
I think they can do a way better decisions in situations like that. I don't understand why people see a disrespect in that words.
2017-01-29 22:40
Eco wins happen quite often, it's OK and it rather shows how good the guys with pistols were than how bad the guys with rifles were.

Your psychologist is right: it's incredibly hard to be #1, most competitors spend a lifetime without achieving it. But it's even harder to stay #1 and those who can do it for long period of time are the true legends of their discipline. You'll need a lot more than what you needed to win this major if you want to stay on top of the scene. Gl.

VP lost the final, but what was the finale? One of the best in the past 3 years, if not the best. Each map aligned in each of victory decided by a matter of luck. CS at the highest level is the gambling.

2017-01-30 00:12
Lmao astralis wins their first major ever after reaching their first final ever, and this kid goes on to say "we underperformed" We get it, you won. You don't need to make statements like this. The only reason astralis won was because they overperformed, because choking is in their dna, not underperformed. Also device never ever shows up when most needed, so you can't call that underperforming.
2017-01-30 07:10
+1, overperformed like fuck. most other top teams except VP are either waiting for shuffle or played with standin. lucky win
2017-01-30 09:46
Denmark dR_JaCkPoT
Well tbf there were many shaky rounds. They lost a bunch of antiecos (lost to a full eco, only USPs, at score 12-12 on nuke etc.). It definitely wasn't a perfect game. And I'm sure Kjaerbye didn't intend to offend VP he just wanted to speak his mind after a major win. To me it's weird a 30-year-old TaZ gets offended and misinterpreted that comment.
2017-01-30 12:00
World xruptince
honestly, no fans gained from this event for astralis after K's comments, his maturity came to light with his comments on twitter after the game - "underperformed", the reason you underperformed is because you were exposed to the best team in the world in Virtus Pro, you can't roam and run free because they're significantly skilled players, it shows how early we're in the development of the game to have such young players be so disrespectful.... you could take notes from Roger Federer on his acceptance speech after winning the Australian Open on how you should thank your sponsors, your peers, support groups but most of all your rival and competition because without any of them performing and raising the bar you would be nobody and earning nothing from playing the game you love.

And then we have the old bald dude promising that they will crush them next time :) Very mature from a 30 year old indead. Fallen is much smarter: Don't fight stupidity with stupidity. Kjaerbye is a immature 18 year old, what is Taz's excuse?

TaZ didn't say "fuck you, cunts, we fuck you up next time" he just said he'll try his absolute hardest to beat them next time. Also I don't get the rage over Kjearbye's tweets either, he just feels like they could've done even better which he sees as "underperforming".

Why can't we just congratulate Astralis on their win? Why do we have to fight on this thread... If you think Virtus.pro derserved the win most, it's okay. Astralis fought fair and Square and won, that's it..
2017-01-30 13:30
I didnt say that :) I just said VP is a legendary team with mature guys thats it. On the other hand imo i know that kjaer can be skilled guys but i dont believe it 100 % that he is 'clear; in his gameplay :) Thats my opinion.

2017-01-30 13:38

He's not arrogant you idiots, he even stated that he is very critical about his own performance and that tweet about the game is about him and the team doing stupid plays(the eco losses on nuke and being 13-7 down on train in the first place), they were shaky thourghout the final even if they won it in the end. Moreover, Taz took his tweet to do a bit of bashing but you have to be retarded to not see that he just says to kjaerbye to "shut it" and be glad that he won in the end, and that "next time they won't lose to them" - it comes off as he tells him to focus on the games ahead and not really being toxic, people here of course don't understand Taz' cynical personality.
