ESL comments on VAC ban policy

ESL has issued a statement to shed some light on the recent changes to its policy regarding VAC bans on a professional level. revealed on Thursday that ESL had decided to allow VAC-banned players to compete in the Pro League and at ESL One and IEM events, provided that at least two years have passed since the ban was issued.

VAC-banned players will be able to compete at ESL One events after two years

In a Twitlonger post, ESL explains that the change aims to "create consistency for all future bans across all platforms throughout CSGO", adding that players caught by its own anti-cheat technology (ESL Wire) have always been banned from its competitions for a period of two years.

"So that VAC bans can also be included in this consistent overall framework, we therefore recently updated our competitive rulebook to bring our treatment of them in line with these policies," ESL adds.

ESL has also reacted to accusations about adopting double standards in the disciplinary measures taken against VAC-banned players in comparison to players involved in match-fixing cases.

The Germany-based company acknowledges that implementing "consistent and meaningful punishment for integrity violations" remains an "extremely complex and multifaceted" issue, but stresses that it will sit down with relevant parties to review this topic.

"We will consult with players, teams, organizations and sports integrity experts such as ESIC on whether the existing policies are still adequate for professional play in Counter-Strike," ESL notes.

why u want those cheaters and scammers in the csgo? isnt csgo bad already with all these cheaters?

just because something is easy to do does not change the fact that it can be illegal LOL. it is really easy to pirate games, but is illegal. just an example
2017-03-24 09:04
I am pretty sure CSGL didn't ask you if you were 18 before betting. These things don't prevent kids from betting but kids aren't supposed to know the law, businessmen are.

2017-03-24 18:25
at 10 years old (in the uk - probably similar in other countries) you are expected to be of legal mind, meaning if you break the law, the whole "I didn't know it was illegal" bullshit is no longer valid, and you will go through the law system accordingly like anyone else should you be prosecuted.
2017-03-24 19:22
Did you forget your own point? You said kids didn't lose any skins betting on their favourite players... when they did. Keep up ;)
2017-03-24 14:50
Its not about losing skins lol, are you that dumb? They lost on purpose, that is the reason ppl hate them, but people like you want this game to get dirtier by letting those fucjers play competitive again.
2017-03-24 09:30
no, you dont understand my point. the fact that professional gamers who were caught cheating are allowed to play after 2 years, but people who match fixed, its indefinite? i dont see how thats fair. what do you think about pro players being allowed to compete after 2 years?
2017-03-24 09:31
Unban cheaters/matchfixers, so unban all or dont unban anyone. Simple shit, both are cancer for csgo community and ppl know that, agree its unfair, but not for matchfixers, but for us.

but in sports its the same if u cheat (doping) u get banned for few years if u game fixing you are violating the law, u can go to jail its not my creation, its just how it works, maybe fair maybe not imo both should stay banned, no matter what

who cares if they are allowed to bet or not, in the end what matters is what happened in the reality. and what happended in the reality is that iBP stole money from kids supporting them those assholes could have earn way more just playing a regular career, i'm glad they are banned for life
2017-03-24 11:11
kids should not be betting in the first place, it was not the ibp players or orgs authority to enforce this.
2017-03-24 11:13
it doesn't even change shit if its kids or not, and come on don't tell me they thought everyone who was betting is 18+, don't be ridicoulous.. look at the fucking game, it was so obvious, they took us for braindead persons how can they dare to do something like this and this way ? when you see guys like steel raging at everygame you understand how just a cunt he is
2017-03-24 11:17
now you are just making assumptions on a person you dont even know. its the betters fault for losing because every time you bet its always a risk, you are portraying it as they are thiefs and they stole from the whole community
2017-03-24 11:20
how am I making assuptions on a person i don't know ??? wtf. Just watch steel's streams or broadcasts on the internet and you'll see how he rages everytime look how many montages about him raging you have on yt : how can you say they didn't steal anything ?? the way it was done is just a huge insult to the community.
2017-03-24 11:28
but they did are you fucking stupid lmao
2017-03-26 17:31
dude, people who believed in them, bet on them because they were sure that they are better team, and this so called pros just fucking throw, not even hiding it. It's not only destroying the game itself, but also it weakens audience, who the fuck would watch the game if everybody;d be certain that they may throw since it is legal lmao cheating and matchfixing should be banned permanently, i dont give a fuck about giving these shitheads another chance, because it only provocates pros, and wannabe pros to cheat quoating automatic "If I started cheating right now I could earn enough money to pay for my tuition, get banned, finish school, then come back and compete. "
2017-03-24 11:19
but every time you bet there is always a chance to lose, i have said this multiple times now. my point is that, if cheaters get unbanned then why don't match fixers? also show me the source for that quote
2017-03-24 11:23
i only hope that they will came to conlusion that this rule is riddiculous, and bring things back like they were before 23rd march
2017-03-24 11:24
the "always a chance to lose" argument is ridiculous... the point of betting is that there are two ways(or more) for the bet to go. in the case of IBP, they removed the chance for people to WIN by fixing the game and that's unacceptable. they just let betting companies and skin betting sites take money from people for their personal gain.. it's totally immoral - same as cheating.

*cheats *match-fixing Pick one
2017-03-24 02:35
I'd deffo want to see ibp back instead of banned hackers. It was just 1 match that was hardly meaningful, and the first of its kind. Imo its a bit harsh to give a lifetime ban over something that has no rules set. Cheating is basically the same as throwing multiple matches since you're effecting the outcome of the matches in an illegitimate way. But yeah, I guess they're just trying to make it as any other sport now that is grown so big.. Like you dont get lifetime ban after caught from doping.
2017-03-24 02:43
*every match they cheat in. Its basically the opposite of throwing and anyone throwing or cheating should punished equally. Back in iBP/Epsilon days there wasn't a rule against it, so they shouldn't suffer a tougher punishment from those who actually broke rules. I've seen people say that IRL people who cheat in sports are only banned for a few years too (because thats justification apparently) but then IRL sports only fine players for throwing games and VERY occasionally ban them for a short time.
2017-03-24 02:42
Yeah its messed up.
2017-03-24 02:46
Portugal dracø
Match fixing wasn't created in this scene, arguing that there were no rules against it is srsly biased. There were spots players who got suspended jail sentences. Same happened in other esports (sc comes to mind instantly). This guys got it easy if you look at the big picture. Sure they can't play tournaments, yet they managed to kept their stream's viewbase (swag and steel), get caster spots (dazed), and start a new career at a different game with no penalty (AZK) etc. Cheating is worse tho, and this new rules are a spit on the face of every legit player.
2017-03-24 03:03
yeah, I think we're gonna see a lot of scummy semi-pros who know they arent ever going to make valve-sponsored events just cheat their ass off, get banned, then come back & do it again.
2017-03-24 03:59
Portugal dracø
Yup. Why wouldn't some randies get some hacks and try to get there. If they get busted they won't lose anything, if they don't, they are set to get some €€$$. Online qualifiers will be even more of a joke.
2017-03-24 04:03
Indonesia rareguy
I think that wouldn't happen. If it actually happens, there will be only a few. Look, 2 years for now is a really long time, alright? If these semipros are cheating their way for easy cash, they can only do it maybe twice. CSGO is dying, ok? Their fanbase is not increasing anymore. It is only about time. If they actually planned to do things as you say, when they come back not many will ever look at CSGO anymore. Besides, if you caught VAC banned, there is no team that wait for your ban to expire. Same as KQLY's incident. Even though he will come back, no team will take him. Causing you a lot of trouble and difficulty climbing that "semipros" again.
2017-03-24 05:07
then just create a new team as KQLY and have your teammates cheat as well :p

"Spit in the face of every legit player" Sooooo no players face then? xD The scene is infected with cheaters, and valve would never ban top tier teams and destroy their own money income iBP, cheaters and "legit" players, let them all play cus u'd still watch this shit. Also Valve, please stop with operations, updates, patches etc, just give "us" skins cus we also buy that shit and then complain cus we are retards but at least you earn money
2017-03-24 08:41
I think match fixing is illegal by law in most countries, so stating there's no rule set is just wrong. The boys who did this, surely knew it was wrong. They just thought they could use their position to "earn" some easy money without getting caught. With this being said, I don't think matchfixing should be punished harder than cheating.
2017-03-24 12:36
Ofcourse it is, but I think usually the consequenses are mostly legal too and not inside the sport. I guess everyone in ibp would've preferred even a very large fine over a lifetime ban.
2017-03-24 13:41
They surely would have.... And maybe it would be more suitable with a large fine and a two year ban.... I don't know...
2017-03-24 15:38
throwers who threw before there were rules in place against it aren't nearly as bad as cheaters who were so bad they got caught by VAC. (Also cheating has always been against the rules, so players who cheated knew that they were doing not only something morally wrong, but also breaking the rules) I'd want brax, steel, dazed & fxy0 back in the csgo
2017-03-24 02:39

It seems to me really exaggerated the punishment to iBP and epsilon from my point of view. The case of match fixing in Juventus is a clear example of how Valve should have acted. Not to mention that the career of footballer is much longer.

2017-03-24 04:13
KQLY returning to the CSGO scene after being CAUGHT using hacks is such a strong message to upcoming youngsters, yep you are a hundred percent right. Either allow them all to play or neither. IBP got a lifetime ban for doing something that wasn't even punishable yet! As KQLY said there's a 0.1% chance he'll return, well if Braxton got the chance he'll be back 100%. These 4 guys, azk Steel Dazed and Brax, deserve a second chance as much as (if not more) the 2 year VAC'ed ones.

2017-03-24 05:33
they were famous before in na since they were their best players and to be fair, nobody forced anyone to bet money or skins on matches, it shouldnt even be allowed but valve ignored it cause they made profit as well. All this shit is a very 2 or even 3 faced story... But a lifetime ban is just too much imo. If they did this in real life, they would be out of jail as well by now i guess. At least in germanistan since our max penalty for everything is 1 year hehe

I hope this is a second chance policy rather than a situation where they can come back after 2 years each time, I would like to see it enforced so that after your first offense it is a 2 year ban but if you get caught again it would become lifetime. This in my opinion seems the most fair way to do it.

If you're not going to un-ban the players that were caught match-fixing then don't bother un-banning the cheaters. Honestly the people who lost money on IBP were probably underage and shouldn't have been gambling in the first place. Cheating = stealing money from pro players and from people who bet Match-fixing = only stealing money from people who bet So why the hell it's worse?
2017-03-24 09:32
Yes but there are players like dream3r who never cheated in a pro game and were banned, this rule has its bad and good sides like a pro player who cheated whilst being a pro should never be unbanned, but ppl who cheated 3 years ago in matchmaking or casual shouldn't get them a lifetime ban
2017-03-24 11:21
Ok he cheated on mm/casual but he could do that against pro players also. For me mm/casual vac ban = same shit like on match with pro players.
2017-03-24 12:01
Still bans in pro matches and bans from 3 years ago for cheating mm and casual shouldn't be treated the same way, anyways I think it was a good decision by esl
2017-03-24 12:24
When it was 3 years ago and there was no pro scene I agree.

Cheating and match fixing should both result in a life long ban.
2017-03-24 10:01
Its fucking pathetic that IBP cant play and some fucking cheating scum can play after 2 years. GET A GRIP VOLVO
2017-03-24 10:08
Clear retaliation to Valve because ESL Cologne is not going to be a major this year. Well, the could at least unban the throwers too.
2017-03-24 10:14
Make steam accounts banned for 2 years also I get 1 ban and it's permenannt This is bullshit
2017-03-24 10:15
Kind of a fucking joke tbh. This would encourage pro's to cheat. Why? Cuz even if they get caught they can compete again after 2 years, but whatever they make before they get vac banned stays in their bank account. Fucking bullshit. This game is a fucking joke and ESL is even bigger. Fuck this, not watching anymore games again.

I think cheating using 3rd party software is worse than the ibp matchfix. Shitter teams that were making it onto csgol back before it was closed were clearly fucking throwing for skins and i bet they made a metric fuck load more than ibp did... yes tell my why a tier 7 Asian team is on csgol and loses to a substantially worse team by playing like fucking retards, ye coz thats not a throw. Valve are so separated from the pro community, the entire fucking community want ibp unbanned... we literally forgave them and they've done their absolute best to stay in the CS scene coz they love it... Dazed is even casting coz he likes the game that much lol. ESL should at least use their brain here, for their public imagine allowing ibp players to compete would be huge. Even if it's just for fucking pro league lol.

The reason Americans want to unban IBR is that well, in unofficial mix-matches swag, azn, and definitely dazed are kicking C9 and Optics players butt so hard. It was really a shame for United States to lose IBR.. As they were one if not the strongest team in their Country. I also like out of the 14 Pro League ESL Team in NA 3 are Brazilian 2 are Australians One is Canada/Britain - Completexity And the rest 8 teams all got one or two guys from another country.. =) BUt we all know AMERICANS LOOOVE IMMIGRANTS :D
2017-03-24 12:07
Im sorry but are you out of your mind? If you cheat in CS:GO, if you cheat in professional CS:GO, there is no coming back. Why trust someone not to do it again.. You obv. cant be trusted to play cs on a legit basis if you cheat.
2017-03-24 12:04
Rip simple.

Either you unban all or everyone stay banned
2017-03-24 12:08
You cheated when you were 16 years old in a MM game and got a vac ban = lifetime ban for professional CS:GO You cheated on stage in a 250.000 final and get banned by ESL wire/ESEA/Faceit. You can play next week in the Major by another company. ESL unifies the punishment for cheating no matter which AC caught people. It was alway stupid that VAC bans lifetimebanned you while FaceIT, ESL Wire or ESEA AC bans did not, ESEA caught people were only banned for 1 year and thats it. You can now argue that it should be a unified lifetime ban or that matchfixers should be unbanned, but it doesnt change the fact, that the unification of cheating punishment is not a bad thing. And that ESL is a company that actually employes and IBP player and pays him money.
2017-03-24 12:12
You can get VAC for "not cheating": -2x troll ban (griefing) goes VAC automatically -2x same phone number used for prime goes VAC automatically -OW ban goes VAC automatically For the idiots that think OW works perfectly: NO Its rigged af.

WTF i need to stop trolling before i get VAC banned, already been hit with the 5 week ban LUL
2017-03-24 12:59
-2x same phone number used for prime goes VAC automatically Wutface. That's retarded as fuck. I use my m8s number and get him banned, what the fuck?
2017-03-24 13:05
Sweden stephy Im not sure thought... KQLY says he tried it.. I actually "done" what is described in his statement. I tried cheat. I bought it from ehm Aimware. I got a little exe file that I launched before playing.. Using it I could wallhack/use aimbot without any problems on MM matches.. I didn't tried it on Faceit or ESEA but on MM it really opened my eyes how easy anyone there can have a cheat on and activate it with a single key-stroke. Edit: Aimware also include something called "soft-aim" ... Which means, your aim automatically at the enemy when they pop up on your screen. It was actually even for ME.. cheating you KNOW.. using the AIMhax it was difficult to spot the difference how my mouse cursor moved to to the enemy. So yeah, MM is totally impossible to play now. A video of AIMWARE:

great ad. will buy and test it

Everyone deserves a second chance The real cancer of this community are these retarded kids
2017-03-24 12:33
i agree, but i would like to see exiBP player get unbaned. Like wtf, u didnt have rules for throwing. Its stupid, give them f chance
2017-03-24 12:59
So if a guy kills your family what will happen? Can you give him a second chance?
2017-03-24 16:49
we're talking about a game m8 for you throwing a match = murder? good to know you're comparing two different things
2017-03-24 17:17
Dude fuck cheaters and matchfixers. But if Ibuypower will back to cs scene, stickers will down to 1$ rofl
2017-03-25 22:44
Cheating = lifetime ban + your kids get banned because they have your cheating genes. Now that would be radical. XD

"We will consult with players, teams, organizations and sports integrity experts such as ESIC on whether the existing policies are still adequate for professional play in Counter-Strike," PogChamp #FreeIBP

2017-03-24 15:39
Simple, buy cheats now!!! The money that you will get from sponsors and majors are worthy for two years ban. If it's worthy ask the pros': -Lance Armstrong (apparently it's worthy even if the ban is for life) -Ben Johnson -Marion Jones -Maria Sharapova . . ..and -faty Flusha
2017-03-24 15:57
And on this day counterstrike started its way to the cemetery, i give it 2 more years
2017-03-24 15:57
lel cheats - second chance matchfixing - permament ban wtf volvo
2017-03-24 16:52
If you play professionally and get caught cheating you should receive a life time ban, imo. I feel like ESL neither Valve takes cheating seriously, so why would any potential cheater do so.
2017-03-24 17:29
Like jail right?
2017-03-24 18:01
KQLY, make france great again!

Cheating = lifetime ban. Matchfixing = lifetime ban. No exceptions unless proven wrong or proven hacked.
2017-03-24 20:08
expected from Germans
2017-03-24 20:10
I would give them all fixers and cheaters a second chance but I'd always give it to matchfixers first. Anyone who cares about the game can see that matchfixing is a money thing and cheating is ruining the game, not just one match but the whole game. Allowing cheaters before fixers shows no love for the game, only love for money, no humanity.
2017-03-24 23:50
worst decision ever
2017-03-25 03:09
I find it funny that iBP got banned for match fixing for skins. Yet skin betting is actually illegal in the US, and has been for quite sometime along with online gambling. So they got banned for something that people shouldn't of been doing anyways. And then they can't get unbanned, but players who actually cheated can. I get people are butthurt because they lost skins, your lost though. You were basically doing something illegal anyways. Just funny that's all. I think they should get unbanned. No reason match fixing should even be a thing, as players should not be allowed to bet period.
2017-03-25 03:23
I really don't think you deserve a second chance. Actually, i think you should get jail time if you cheat at professional level, no matter the sport. "I was stupid" or "i didn't consider the consequences" are no excuses. So many peole are affected, teammates, the whole organisation, investors, sponsors, fans etc. One fuckhead like KQLY can ruin peoples lifes. What comes to IBP, in this case - they totally should be unbanned. Wth, just legalize cheating
