Slemmy joins compLexity on trial

To try and stop the downward trend the team has been on, compLexity have acquired the services of Slemmy from Selfless—who will be joining the squad on a trial basis.

Complexity hasn't been impressing the CS world for some time now, finishing just above the relegation zone in the last season of ESL Pro League and failing to make an impact at the LAN events they attended.

After a 13-16th finish at DreamHack Masters Las Vegas, Michael "Uber" Stapells departed from the team and Complexity opted to use Jason "jasonR" Ruchelski as a stand-in in the meantime.

With jasonR, the team failed to qualify for ECS Season 3, losing 3-0 to Bee's Money Crew, and were also unable to make a mark in the DreamHack Austin qualifiers using their coach Matt "Warden" Dickens.

Slemmy represented Selfless at WESG 2016

Complexity have now announced that they will be adding Alec "Slemmy" White from Selfless on a trial basis, "hoping his leadership can right the ship".

Slemmy made a name for himself while playing for Cloud9, where he was able to add to the team's tactical depth and improve their Terrorist sides, but was ultimately replaced by Timothy "autimatic" Ta and Jake "Stewie2K" Yip took over the in-game leader role.

Complexity are now:

United Kingdom Rory "dephh" Jackson
United Kingdom Kia "Surreal" Man
United States Derek "desi" Branchen
Canada Bradley "ANDROID" Fodor
United States Alec "Slemmy" White (trial)

He actually wasn't terrible in c9 problem was his system didn't suit any of the players there.

Article a bit unclear. He was replaced in the team by Auti, at which point Stewie took over IGLing.
2017-03-29 11:49
Agreed - it makes it somewhat confusing, making it seem like Stewie took Slemdawg's spot when Stew was already on the team during Slemmy's tenure.

2017-03-29 20:26
As far as AWPers that are free agents inside NA go, there really aren't many. Surreal is probably the best they're going to get without taking a risk on players from Premier teams. Until such time as coL start having the acheivements worthy of convincing another teams AWPer to join them, Surreal is the best they're going to get dephh should be dropped for sancz though. They removed sancz ages ago for practically no reason, however since then his level of play has skyrocketed. Definitely a good pickup for a team like coL.

Slemmy is just downgrading himself team wise so eventually he will be in "gammaboiz360"
2017-03-29 14:27
Very good to see a struggling NA team actually take a shot with one of the few NA IGL's still available in the scene. He also somehow manages to be an upgrade to what Uber was while playing with coL, so even if Slemmdog fails, it isn't that bad.

how he got booted from selfless.
2017-03-29 18:34
Pretty sure he wasn't actually booted. Ryu just did the same thing hes done time and time again where he signs numerous Up-And-Comers and just waits for another team to buy them from him. coL would have bought Slemmy out from Selfless with hopes that his leadership would improve their ingame performances and results.

does not change much with Slemmy they were worse than Col.
2017-03-29 18:40
Without Slemmy they were equally as bad. The last time they had a half-decent lineup was when they still had koosta and MainLiNe. Without them, the roster went downhill extremely quickly as all it had was Premier players (Still does) As i said, Slemmy and Uber are both equally as bad as each other at the moment, So taking a risk to add an Ingame leader really isn't that bad at the moment. coL literally can't get any worse than losing 0-3 to Bee's Money Crew.

hopefully Slemmy turn compLexity around in time for the major qualifiers. I'd love to see more compLexity stickers and a chance for compLexity to represent NA CS if they show great firepower.
2017-03-29 18:06
Representing NA CS with 2 UK players. That's just sad to see
2017-03-29 18:37
I mean if it's what it takes to work, there's really nothing else we can do haha
2017-03-29 18:45
I remember the good ol days of coL being the best Organisation and team within the NA region. I suppose those days are long over.
2017-03-29 18:48
yeah, back when they were DreamHack 2013 Legends. Then they became c9 and kinda split up from the original roster. At least we have C9 and Optic to look to, but even those two teams are super shaky. (Not including SK Gaming because they aren't really NA CS representatives). Hopefully there's still a glimmer of hope for compLexity to shine once more
2017-03-29 18:52
As much as Liquid has been extremely shaky for quite a while, I still look to them as the team with the best chance of competing against EU teams. Every player on that lineup has shown in the past that they are extremely capable players that can compete at the top level, but struggle heavily with inconsistency. JDM and nitr0's inconsistency issues are literally the main reason this team always seems to struggle, yet they've shown that with plenty of preperation (Majors) they can bring good form.
2017-03-29 18:58
less so for nitr0 really. I see JDM going off more than nitr0, but that's just me. With Stanislaw being a huge upgrade, I see them having a good chance at being great once more. But until the players in a team put consistency on their plates, I'm gonna write off TL as a "take note of" kind of team, kinda like how people noticed Optic during the major, but never really expected too much out of them until they saw them go ham during Eleague S2 finals
2017-03-29 19:01
If i remember rightly, they didn't do anything special at the major prior to ELEAGUE S2. They won ELEAGUE S2 completely out of nowhere, then placed 2nd at ECS. This made them a favourite to make Top 4 at the Major, however they underperformed due to a supposed "lack of preparation" by the team. To be fair though, I always thought of them as similar to an overperforming Cloud9 during the summer with Sgares and freakazoid. nitr0 is by far the most inconsistent player on that lineup. He's definitely a great player, but for what is supposed to be NA's #1 team, he just doesn't cut it. However unless Liquid steal from Cloud9, OpTic or Internationally, their only real replacement option is TwistZz, who is still a risk. Id like to see Liquid at an event they actually go full-out preparing for before judging their rosters future though.
2017-03-29 19:26
indeed, those were the only two major achievements before the major. But then again, it was expected that Optic would be coming in hot from their previous performances. A shame that didn't happen. I agree with the Sean Gares sentiment though. nitr0 should indeed be swapped for twistzz. It's been noted a few times that TwistZz is one of the pistons of Misfits, with crazy stats to back it up, I actually wish TL/coL picked him up instead, but the b/o for TwistZz from Misfits is gonna be ridiculous. We'll just have to see in the coming weeks how TL perform for ESL Pro League S5. Them making it to the finals would make for a good show, since this'll be one of the bigger events before the next major
2017-03-29 19:51
Misfits are a team that have stayed at the EXACT same level despite getting itself 2 better players in Sgares and ShahZaM and having 3 Stars that are only getting better as time goes on. I truly just cannot understand how it is that a team can go over a year and not improve itself even a little. I had such high hopes for them after their little run at the ECS Finals Liquid are guaranteed to make it to the finals. The NA side of the ESL Pro League has that many mediocre teams in it, it would be considered one of the largest upsets in NA to see Liquid fail to make Top 6 (Or is it 8 now?)
2017-03-29 19:55
It's Top 6 now. It's gonna be tough though, with Pimp going to leave and the market for NA players being sorta dry (except from the lesser teams of course). TL need to work on deepening their map pool, but they can't really do so if Pimp is going away. The hardest challenge for them now is to work in tandem AND to have their players firing on all cylinders. To me, in NA, the threats are: -SK,C9, Optic, IMT (Gonna be tough to beat) -CLG (They've been on a decent run so far) -Renegades (They seem to have more on-games than their off-games now, so they're something to take note of) Other than that, NA CS is really just clutching at straws. A big coin flip in terms of predictability. Sean hasn't been IGL-ing his best for a long while now. While they were still Echo Fox, they were losing to the likes of Muffin Lightning (Which by right shouldn't happen at all). TwistZz, as well as the other flourishing members of Misfits, are either gonna have to jump ship, or carry hard. Shahzam has been showing some good form, on and off, recently, so that mostly leaves SGares to sharpen up his IGL-ing and individual fragging ability
2017-03-29 20:02
Renegades are not a threat in NA anymore. With both Atter and Uber standing in now that they've lost both of their AWPers, I do not see them winning any more decent teams in Pro League anymore. Yam had found a massive resurgence in form since they kicked Rickeh and it definitely showed in their results. Without him, the team is left without one of their more in-form players and an overall AWP presence. Rumor is that Mousesports are trying out ropz to replace Spidii, but if that falls through then Liquid will also try him out. Seems like Liquid are always leaving their 5th slot to be filled by a European player.
2017-03-29 20:20
I'm having a little faith with renegades, especially if/when they acquire nexa from Binary Dragons (I'm assuming it's this nexa). They just need to pick up someone else in good time (Atter only having some good games, Uber, I haven't seen much as of yet) to serve as their AWPer. I think azr is doing well, but jks and ustillo's rare showing up (as far as I've seen) is kinda hindering the team a little too much. According to DeKay, it's either ropz or tenzki from Rogue. We'll have to see how it plays out for mousesports. TL needs to, in the mean time, eye out some more players. Personally I see no wrong in TL filling the 5th spot with a european player, since most of the NA skill at the moment has been taken up
2017-03-30 10:52
I don't know which Renegades matches you're watching, but JKS and USTILO are the 2 better players within Renegades. AZR has massive inconsistency issues dating back to the old Vox Eminor lineup. Id rather see them not sign nexa and instead sign InfrequeNt and liazz
2017-03-30 10:54
ah, my bad then. I might be basing this off one Cobblestone match of theirs while yam was still around (???) disregard that part then, haha. ANZ CS to me is kinda like NA CS, since I only know the top few. Tainted Minds, Immunity, (Chiefs??) being some I like to watch. I guess InfrequeNt would be a good pick up since he's quite sharp with the awp, but I'm not sure if the two being picked up at this point in time will bode well with the team, given how Tainted Minds have yet (as far as I know) to play against International teams (as far as I recall TM were in ESEA Global Challenge where they lost against LDLC, and they're in the Zen League I think?). I think if they were to pickup anyone from the Aussie scene, they'll have to be sure to whip them up into shape fast. Else, what they have at the moment, despite being not too good, have gone against international teams before and can probably work for just the time being. But then again, that's imo really :/ and my brain is kinda bad when it comes to ANZ CS
