advent: aumaN style similar to Stewie
ViCi weren't able to get a win at IEM Sydney, but the Chinese side had some flashes of brilliance at the tournament. To hear about their experience at IEM and their roster changes, we talked to Zhuo "advent" Liang.
advent said they learned a lot from IEM Sydney
With the help of a translator, we talked to Zhuo "advent" Liang who revealed more about their biggest regional oposition, practice, and lessons learned in Sydney.
Let's start with the inception of this roster - you had a bunch changes, how did you settle on this five, what were the reasons for the latest roster changes?
The old VG split up into two different teams, so these two final players that we've picked up are JeXeN and Freeman, we saw that both of them had potential and that they were a good addition to our style of play, that's how this team came about.
To qualify for this tournament, you beat Tyloo, the biggest name from the region. How do you feel about the regional scene, where do ViCi fit and who is the biggest opposition?
The teams that we feel we want to beat the most would be TyLoo, because they are the big name, and Flash Gaming, but they haven't played yet so we are not sure if they would be a great opposing team.
Moving to this tournament, you started with SK, a pretty tough opponent to face first. It seemed like the match fell apart after a good start, what happened from your perspective?
We were playing quite good at the start, but SK were able to change the situation, they are more spontaneous and they can adapt to different situations. Our pace of aggression was messed up for a bit, the rhythm of play. Slowly, the money and the economy went down hill, together with the game.
What were the biggest issues against OpTic and Renegades?
During the match with OpTic we suddenly realised that our style of training back in China couldn't compare to the EU and NA one. Our style, our strategies, are too easily predictable. We feel when we go back, this is something that we've learned and we need to change, our style of play.
About aumaN, a lot of people noticed his good play, what do you think about him inside of the team, where do you see him role wise?
We feel like aumaN's style is similar to the one of Stewie2k, he is the guy who goes and messes with the opponents, messes with their round.
What are your goals for the team for the next couple of months?
The plan for the next three days is to strategize new plans for the Chinese Minor qualifier, that is very important for us. We feel like we need to change our style, we've been playing with a lot of strategy, but now we want to focus on communication, being spontaneous and stuff like that.
What is the training schedule like back home, what do you focus on and do usually?
What we do is we wake up during the day, we do individual training, in the evening we start running all the maps, do all the strategies and at night we scrim with other teams, because most teams scrim at night. That is what our schedule looks like.
Also, we just want to say that we glad that ESL gave us a chance to compete here by organizing the Chinese qualifier, big thanks to them.
