G2 beat HR to win DreamHack Tours

MIRAA
May 8th, 2017 19:42

G2 Esports have won DreamHack Open Tours after defeating HellRaisers 2-0 in the final (16-6 on Cache and 16-14 on Cobblestone).

The French team came out with guns blazing on Cache and stormed to a 9-1 lead on the Terrorist side as HellRaisers struggled to keep up with the home team's pace.

With a triple kill from Martin "STYKO" Styk, HellRaisers got their second round of the game, and they followed it up with one more, cutting the gap to six rounds. But G2's economic control was simply crushing, and they put together another string of rounds to close out the half with a 12-3 lead.

Patrik "Zero" Žúdel then gave HellRaisers a lifeline as he picked up three quick kills during an A retake to give his team the pistol round. The following two rounds also went HellRaisers' way, but G2 regained control of the game once their economy was rebuilt, winning four rounds in a row to secure a straightforward 16-6 victory.

G2 win first title with the new lineup

HellRaisers got off to a flying start on Cobblestone and won the first seven rounds as they gave G2 very little room to operate. After calling a timeout, G2 finally took a round, following a B push, with Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro single-handedly winning the next one with a quad kill.

The European mixture then picked up a round, their eighth of the game, but G2 did not let the pressure get to them and continued taking rounds. In the 13th round, Vladyslav "bondik" Nechyporchuk put HellRaisers in a winning position, but Richard "shox" Papillon pulled off a massive 1v3 clutch to give G2 their fifth round of the game, which would be their last of the half.

Now playing on the Terrorist side, HellRaisers drew first blood with an A push, but they could not capitalise on that as G2 rallied back on a force buy. That win sparked a massive run from the French team, who eventually took the lead for the first time on this map.

HellRaisers still tried to get back into the game in the final rounds, but they were consistently shut down by Kenny "kennyS" Schrub, who powered his team to a 16-14 victory.

Bullshit, they looked stronger than Gambit and just threw that semi away.
2017-05-08 19:44
No Only KennyS looked stronger than Gambit G2 had 0 tactics for Train, ultra shit t side on cobble, with shox who never does eco + they almost lose nuke, which Gambit are not even strong on. They threw? Yes. They would do the same if there was enough strong team? Yes. So, my point is right.

How does that prove your point? G2 is definitely not worse than Gambit atm and has a lot of room to improve with insane amount of talent and potential. Gambit on the other hand are at their ceiling. G2 will never loose to them again in a BO3.

G2 wasn't worse than Gambit, but they did lost game thx buy every round. Their strategy is useless against teams from top 4, force buy didn't work and players from top4 have most better aim than mousesport,HR,Envyus

bodyy was amazing, apex and kennys woke up towards the end of tournament. so many G2 haters, but they were at rock bottom 2 months ago, they are slowing climbing back whether you like it or not. still tier2, under Gambit/North/SK/FaZe, a bit better than Fnatic/Immortals/Hellraisers
2017-05-08 19:48
north as nothing to search there :-) and gambit needs to beat those top teams in BO3 (including VP and Astralis obviously..)

maybe North is in a slump at the moment, but you are right Gambit hasn't beaten any of the tier1 in BO3. I place them t4-5 though, and G2 somewhere around t6-8.

2017-05-08 20:07

2017-05-08 20:14
More like lower tier 2 ... They stil have to beat teams like gambit, north to solidfy themselves as tier 2, then they can try beating tier 1 teams. I would categorize NaVi as tier 2 but they are slumping hard right now, the scene is looknig shit lately, quite hard to tell all team's tiers nowadays. Yes, they have just beaten HellRaisers, but they are inconsistent as fuck, so you can't tell for sure where they fit...

yeah but North/Na'Vi are slumping at the moment... so that doesn't leave a lot of tier 2 teams they need to beat to be fair. as you said, wait and see if they can at least beat those two

GGWP, congrats to G2. Some vintage kennyS action, glad to see him do well. Hopefully he can keep this up in the big tier 1 tournaments. On the other side, shox was a bit quiet, if they both step up in a match they will be a very hard team to stop. But first, time for some more consistency.

shox as the worst player on g2 rating wise before Overpass he was the third highest on g2, while apex had a 0.83 rating. but atleast shox had a solid amout of impact especially those clutchs but tbh wasn't shox best tournament impact and ratingwise.

2017-05-09 15:27
shox impact was actually not as high as bodyy's and kennyS (especially in the last bo3) shox had impact when he clutched twice on cobble but it lacked something. he missed easy sprays, died to quick and stupid decision makings for a player like he is

Despite not winning, HR deserve just as many congratulations as G2. Before Atlanta, no one would've ever imagine HR on something big, and now they're bursting up to most T1-T2 tournament semifinals/finals. They've been improving a lot lately and I'm really happy for them. Also happy by G2, they presented the best CS here today.

It would be sad that HR lost if kenny didnt play so well, but the multiple triple frags he was getting didnt leave much of a chance to do anything if those shots are hit, so gg G2. Good effort HR on cbble at least... Congratz with 2nd place Rip navi Welcome to life pro100

Grand-Finals was incredibly disappointing for me... HR didn't turn up to the first game, their tactics to avoid KennyS were utterly useless therefore causing him to win rounds single-handedly at times and HR were incredibly ineffective at winning 1v1 duels. HR could've definitely taken this BO3 series had they shown up, it's a little bit upsetting. However, kudos to G2 as they did turn up and took the title trivially. Shox wasn't even in the positive K/D mark by the end of it proving G2's versatility as a team. HR adapted very well to cobblestone and it's unfortunate they couldn't drag out a third map. :( I'm also incredibly impressed with bodyy throughout this tournament. A great star-potential player if he continues to play like this. Nice post MIRAA, as always. ;)
