KPI qualify for DH Valencia
KPI has become the first team to qualify for DreamHack Open Valencia 2017 after winning the Iberian qualifier.
The Iberian qualifier for DreamHack Open Valencia started with an open round, in which 16 teams played for four spots in the closed qualifier, where AlienTech, k1ck, Giants, and x6tence waited to play out a best-of-three bracket.
One of the big surprises was the fact that the open qualifier bracket was seeded randomly and KPI and G2V, two of the teams favored to make it through the open qualifier were forced to play each other in the first round of matches. The match was played on Inferno and KPI came out on top 16-12, with Alejandro "mopoz" Fernández-Quejo Cano putting in an MVP performance with a 35-17 K/D.
AlienTech did quick work of Vortex, winning 2-0 in the first match of the bracket. KPI then beat k1ck with the same score, edging out k1ck—who played with Flávio "panda" Salgueiro instead of João "horvy" Horvath, the latter having been in talks with Immortals—19-17 on Train and then closing it 16-1 on Mirage.
Jonathan "MusambaN1" Torrent’s Giants beat Arctic 2-0, and the last match of the quarterfinals pitted Movistar Riders and x6tence, with the former coming out on top in three maps. KPI then beat the other Portuguese team in the first semifinal, AlienTech, while Giants edged past Movistar Riders in three tight maps. In the final, KPI once again showed their superiority, winning 2-0, and closing the qualifier without having dropped a single map.
DreamHack Open Valencia will take place on July 14-16, with a $100,000 prize pool and will feature eight teams—five invited and three from qualifiers—that will be split into two groups which will be played out in GSL format ahead of the semifinals and the final.
