G2 top Group A; tiebreakers to come

G2 Esports have secured the top spot in Group A after defeating fnatic 16-11, with the Swedes entering a tiebreaker stage with SK Gaming and EnVyUs.

G2 entered the match against fnatic hoping to make amends for their disappointing Overpass display against Immortals, and they got out to an early lead after a successful B retake in the pistol round. Having planted the bomb in that round, fnatic were able to buy in the third round, which they eventually won. However, G2 still had plenty of money in the bank, so they were able to hit back immediately after, with Dan "apEX" Madesclaire denying Jesper "JW" Wecksell a 1v3 clutch.

The French team remained in the driving seat and eventually jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but then they were twice punished for their overaggression. fnatic went on to bring the deficit to a minimum, but they were unable to find the equaliser as Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro went huge and picked up triple kills in back-to-back rounds.

G2 finish at the summit of Group A despite some slumps

fnatic still tried to get back into the game, but they could only get one more round on the board as G2 took ten rounds on the CT side, with Kenny "kennyS" Schrub finishing the half with 22 kills.

The second half began with fnatic winning the pistol round thanks to a trio of kills from Robin "flusha" Rönnquist. The Swedish team went on a great run and brought the deficit to a minimum, but then G2's offense came to life and strung three rounds together on two occasions en-route to a 16-11 finish.

Meanwhile, EnVyUs pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament so far by making light work of SK Gaming on Inferno. A fantastic T performance from the Frenchmen saw them cruise to a 12-3 half-time lead as they never gave the Brazilians any chance to build on the few rounds that went their way.

EnVyUs shock SK with a great Inferno display

EnVyUs piled more misery on SK by taking the pistol round as CT, and they followed it up with three more rounds, strolling to an easy 16-3 victory.

Cloud9 kept their hopes alive by taking the pistol round as Terrorist, but Immortals rallied back and won five rounds in a row to hit match point. Timothy "autimatic" Ta's men still got two more rounds on the board, but they could not prevent the Brazilians from winning the match.

G2 from gettin stomped by C9 and Immortals to a 4 way tiebreaker in which they won the H2H and got a spot straight at the semi finals even tho they had the worst R/D out of the 4 teams, what a day.

Man being a G2 fan is such a rollercoaster ride. But again, G2 will always have the tendency of starting super slow, then with time they started to grind their gears.
