CLG Red change duo, add head coach

June 7th, 2017 14:10

Stephanie "missharvey" Harvey and Klaudia "klaudia" Beczkiewicz are stepping down from CLG's female roster, the North American organisation have announced.

The North American team, who have been part of CLG since 2015, were last seen in action at Intel Challenge Katowice, where they were sent packing in the semi-finals following a 2-1 defeat against North American rivals Dignitas fe.

Stephanie "missharvey" Harvey has won multiple international titles with the team since their creation, in 2005, including five ESWC crowns, as SK Gaming, UBINITED and CLG Red. Klaudia "klaudia" Beczkiewicz joined the squad only in 2016 alongside coach Erik "da_bears" Stromberg

missharvey leaves the team after 12 years

Stepping into the duo's shoes are Jennifer "refinnej" Le and Emma "Emy" Choe. According to the official announcement, the new players "are both young up and coming talents in CS:GO" - the former has been playing on ESEA since 2015, the latter since last year.

"I've looked up to these girls for a long time and when I was asked to tryout, I was full of anxiety and pretty nervous," refinnej stated.

"But I'm so happy to be able to say it went great and now I'm a part of CLG Red. It has always been a dream of mine!"

Besides the new two additions, former Mostly Harmless player Cody "cubed" Thaw will be taking over as head coach, providing "analysis and guidance" to the team.

"I am excited to be a part of an organization that supports its players and staff as much as CLG does," he said.

"Joining CLG as a coach will be a new experience and I'll make sure to push the team to practice their decision making - positioning and just sound Counter Strike has a lot of value that most people overlook.

"I am counting on our fans for their support during these roster changes and look to bring in the results in the future!"

Despite the departing duo's future remaining uncertain, missharvey stated that she is already looking for the "next challenge" in her career.

"After 12 years of being on this team, it is finally time to move on," missharvey said. "I am looking forward to my next challenge and excited for the new adventure ahead of me.

"As my journey continues, I would like to wish CLG and CLG RED the best of luck in their endeavors. Thank you to the CLG family, friends and fans for everything you did for me. So long."

With these changes, CLG Red's roster stands as follows:

United States Christine "potter" Chi
United States Diane "di^" Tran
United States Benita "bENITA" Novshadian
United States Jennifer "refinnej" Le
United States Emma "Emy" Choe

I know it's merely marketing, but its a bit of an insult to the esport as a competitive outlet having shitters being sponsored like this
2017-06-07 14:14
If there is a market for female cs and people watch it, why not. WNBA wasnt popular at all for the first 5/10 years. Now it can stand on itself and more and more females are signing up every year to play basketball. Esports grows so fast, people forget the longterm (5/10 years)...
2017-06-07 14:17
Congrats on ignoring the point. Wnba is a terrible example too. Cant hang in the nba so they needed their own league. Maybe they should just actually get good.

Then females cant play sports because males are better in almost every sport.... I dont get the hate, its not like if they dont spend the money on female cs, its going to the males. There is money for female cs because there is interest in the matches and the money gained from that is put back in. 3 years ago female cs was nothing, now its at least double the size. As long as it makes profit, im fine with it

maybe cuz u are a esgotalher clg red is moneyfarm because virgins who never watched a girl playing, female cs is so fkn garbage that they cant even qualify for the minors. Of couse man are better in cs cuz females are pussies and afraid of getting rekt, so they create their gold nova female "pro" leagues just to get some views.

I think the problem is (imo) that females which are not even on the level of semi-pro male teams get 20k+ price money and are paid four figure salaries, even though they don't have a disadvantage in eSport. With NBA and WNBA there's a big difference in size, strength and whatever, so there's no way females could be successful in such a sport together with males.
2017-06-07 15:30
Anything is possible, isiah thomas is smaller than most wnba players and still plays better than most other males. Also dont forget if there are more male players > paylevel gets higher

There could always be a woman who could play with men regardless of height and strength, i.e. Candace Parker could have easily played College Basketball with men or even in the NBA regardless of her stature, but there are no limitations in CS or eSport, so why favor women as PR machines.
2017-06-07 16:43
Because there is interest in female cs. if there is interest in pro cs with people without hands and feets, im fine with it.
2017-06-07 16:46
''3 years ago female cs was nothing, now its at least double the size'' 2x0 is still 0 m8.
2017-06-07 17:56
How can u assume a woman can play basket against a man,how can u block howard for example ?its to much of a strenght difference and speed andvmany others lol ,u consider yourself equal physical as a woman?the example was too good, like woman football and men ...esports is where sex doesnt give you a clear advantage,or it shouldnt give...

I don't think a lot people watch female cs for the gameplay. The gameplay element is pretty much mm DMG level. Also unlike basketball, women does not have a physical disadvantage against men therefore they are just bad because they are.
2017-06-07 14:42
I'm not the guy whos going to say males have a faster reactiontime and stuff. Females are indeed worse but that doesnt matter, just let them play and improve. Again stuff takes time and come back in 5/10 years (which is long term) and see how the teams are and how many females are playing cs. Also again, if there is a market for something, someone needs to fill that gap. If there is a market for blind people playing csgo, im fine with it. For the heck, there is a tournament with bots only and people watch it and they make profit

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head. Give them time to improve so maybe they can beat a semi-pro team one day, they get a four figure salary anyways. Most males that are better are not even getting a cent for playing and are working full time besides playing cs every night. If it would be an even playing field I would have absolutely zero problems with female CS.
2017-06-07 15:32
I mean most males who play sports and are better than females also dont get paid because there are more males than females so the level is higher for males to get paid.
2017-06-07 16:12
i understand your point but the great difference between WNBA and female csgo are the major physical boundaries stopping females from having a chance to compete on the main stage. they'd get stomped. this doesn't exist for csgo, the playing field is level yet the skills still arent up to scratch so they are put aside to their own league. it will never get the same popularity ratio as NBA-WNBA or tennis male-female because viewers themselves are aware that female players have the resources to be as good as males but simply arent.
2017-06-07 16:47
Im just copy my other answer Because there is interest in female cs. if there is interest in pro cs with people without hands and feets, im fine with it.
2017-06-07 17:01
i know there's interest, i'm just telling you it wont amount to the level of wnba-nba ect
2017-06-08 01:40
You dont know and cant know... For how long are female pros being paid for fulltime? 2 years? Now add 10 more years and see where it is. People expect stuff to blow up but you gotta give its time. Same goes for teams, I always give teams at least 4 months to prove themselves. G2 went ffrom being bad the first 3.5 months to being good after 4 months....
2017-06-08 02:25
im not trying to rush the time frame i'm simply looking at the boundaries to how much interest there will be. top female female cs is worse than male cs with no logical explanation as to why. and also 0 strategical difference in what they attempt to do. And people are aware of that fact. wnba is played different to nba because of the physical set backs of women. example: less players with the ability to dunk=more emphasis on setting up shots rather than creating space for driving to the hoop. players who can dunk become rare talents who are unique to the womens game. women also have less stamina it becomes about skill & tactics rather than forcing your powermoves. wnba watchers are convinced they are watching something different. female cs watchers are convinced they are just watching the same thing but worse in every way (which is true)
2017-06-09 03:39
also demographic cs audience compared to basketball. 62% of nba viewers are 18-54 in age, a survey of 10k csgo players showed 43% of them were 18 and under. the maturity of the audience plays a big part in the future of female cs. convincing mature nba fans to watch women play instead of men is not too difficult since they understand and appreciate the game more & idolize players less. convince minors who care about frags and stats but not tactics and gamesense to watch female cs is hard. to convince said cs fans to watch anyone who isnt scream or KennyS enough amongst the male pro scene
2017-06-09 03:43
I give you that, the huge amount of players who are < 18 and als the toxic community, its not perfect ye. Idk how that will develop. Will esports/counterstrike develop into a mature sport with older viewers or do old viewers drop off and younger viewers join
2017-06-09 03:47
yea those numbers would be interesting to know. if those young viewers didnt have such a big portion of opinion, the womens game would grow much quicker without all their negativity and close mindedness
2017-06-10 01:10
Wnba does not stand on it's own. It is funded by the Nba, without money from the Nba, the Wnba would not exist.

It is a comment section, he is allowed to express his comment in whatever way he chooses. You have no right to tell him that his opinion that this move is useless and deserves no attention from him is wrong proves your nazi esque behavior.
2017-06-07 14:34
I actually have the right, just like the rest of the site staff, to ask the user to skip the news (s)he is not interested in. There is no 'nazi esque behaviour' whatsoever. Comments are fine but not pointless 'I don't care' ones.
2017-06-07 14:41
is it not an expression of opinion? it implies that this news is of little importance, and that teams like clg red are irrelevant to a site that is supposed to be reporting on the top scene in cs. but ok, keep on arbitrarily pulling out reasons to silence people
2017-06-07 14:49
Again, if you judge it as 'irrelevant' why bother wasting your time writing pointless comments? It is up to the news crew to decide what content is featured. If you are not interested, as said, skip it. It should work wonders instead of selling your needless input as 'free speech'.
2017-06-07 15:03
because my registering to this site means i want to discuss news within csgo- clg red are an irrelevant team internationally, and i wanted to make fun of the fact that this is apparently "newsworthy" on hltv. what's so wrong with that? you can take anything someone says, call it "needless input" and then delete it. am i breaching site rules? am i doing anything particularly offensive? no? then why am i policed unnecessarily?
2017-06-07 15:09
Spare us your "fun" the next time. And if you had done anything 'particularly offensive' you would be banned and not only your, yes pointless, comment ending up deleted. You see, there is a difference and it is not arbitrary.
2017-06-07 15:13
>doesnt go against the rules >still my comment is deleted that is the definition of arbitrary... also, the "fun" is for the users, you know, the people that keep your site alive? you couldnt be here exercising your internet power and getting paid for it if it werent for the dozens of people that commented the same thing as me. go on continuing to flex your e-powers though, great idea
2017-06-07 15:19
Useless blogs, threads and posts, irrelevant posts, baiting etc. Looks to me like the rules are correctly applied. As for the users who keep the site alive fortunately most of them do not 'comment the same as you' but do post in the news they are actually interested in.

I am comparing your moderation of this forum with fascists moderation of speech and relevancy is subjective. When that guy made his comment he thought it was pretty relevant and you found it irrelevant and deleted it, which means you deleted his opinion using your position of power based on your subjective views. That is something a fascist government would do to a person speaking out against their political party, so I am comparing you to a fascist.
2017-06-09 20:13
Please. The user just wanted to 'make fun' and, as stated, news aren't the place for such irrelevant content; as stated in the site rules which according to you would be 'fascist' too.

And maybe that difference is an issue. You are removing comments here that say "I don't care" instead of removing comments wishing cancer on players in the match pages. I have a grand total of 2 players blocked in hltv, and guess what, both of them are spaming the match pages 24/7, at times they manage to comment shit after every round when they are about to lose their bet. I simply gave up reporting them as it was useless. Priorities man..
2017-06-07 14:46
If you do not report them I am not sure what you expect me or anyone else to do. As for my priorities, 80% of the content I moderate are reports. Thus instead of giving up, suit up!
2017-06-07 14:52
End of an era indeed. Good luck in your future projects missharvey. We will see how these changes affect CLG.Red's performance both in domestic tournaments and abroad.
2017-06-07 14:26
A new generation of female pros is nedeed if they really want to make it big and achieve more like more skilled and dedicated than the actuall ones and I think this is the reasson MissHarvey left.
2017-06-07 16:39
The official statement seems to hint that. I don't follow the female scene that much but as far as I remember news related to the former Ubinited team and now under the wings of CLG as of late were mainly about changing their fifth player (oh the parallelism with NIP). The short stint of a noteworthy awp like Sonia and a smart player like Cath leaving due to some internal issues too etc. And things didn't really end up working that way. Especially taking into account the past dominance they were showing when attending f.e. ESWC. Though I would give the other female teams their credit too for building squads that could challenge that dominance. Thus in the end both side saw the best choice was to move on and see what the future brings. Hopefully more female players that can build a solid base to face the pending challenges.

As far as I am concerned it is simply watching something other than "the usual stuff". And if the given match is quite entertaining, well, it is worth one's time.

I never understood the point of female CS. If you are good, you're get on a team. It doesn't matter if you're a girl or not. There is no point in separating CS into male and female categories. Your casual 5 man Supreme premade would beat them at least 8/10 times... I've known quite a few people who play at a better level that these girls did since 1.6 and they'll never get any exposure since they're guys. A bit unfair innit. It's the same as the gender separation in chess. It doesn't make fucking sense. This is one of the competitive sports/things where male and female physical predispositions don't play any role. They don't deserve the money and exposure they get. They wouldn't be able to beat any Tier 4 team there is in a BO3 maybe even BO1... Just think about the teams that are better than them and don't even get paid to play under an org. Fucking pisses me off.
