CLG are through to the semi-finals at DreamHack Open Summer following a dramatic 31-28 victory over fnatic on Train.
The final match of the day in Jönköping saw fnatic get off to a blazing-hot start as they won four of the first five rounds on the Terrorist side. CLG's defence then finally got some much-needed respite as they secured three rounds in a row, restoring parity at 4-4.
It looked like the rest of the half was going to be keenly contested, but then fnatic's offence came to life. Led by Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer, who finished the half with 18 kills, the Swedes won a series of rounds with clean executes, never giving CLG any breathing room.
The second half began with a fast A execute from CLG catching fnatic's players off-guard, with Kenneth "koosta" Suen getting four kills to his name. The North Americans pressed on in search of an equaliser and they managed to find it following some great executes on their part.
The momentum had now definitely shifted in CLG's favour, but fnatic kept their cool and won three rounds straight to hit match point. CLG made one final push, getting their 13th round of the game, which had the added effect of breaking fnatic's economy. With no money to work with for the rest of the half, the Swedes were helpless to prevent CLG from taking the match to overtime.
The first four overtimes failed to determine a winner as the teams continuously cancelled each other out. But in the fifth overtime, CLG took all three rounds on the T side and then one on the CT side to secure a hard-fought victory and a top seed heading into the playoffs.
