fnatic have advanced to the DreamHack Open Summer playoffs after defeating Gambit 2-0 in the Group B decider match.
The series started out on Train, Gambit's map pick, with Danylo "Zeus" Teslenko's men picking up the first pistol round as Terrorists. The Kazakhs then got the opening in the following round, but a double-kill from Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer with a Desert Eagle saw fnatic prevail in the anti-eco.
After winning one more round, the Swedes lost their second in a B execution from their opponents. However, fnatic picked up yet another round with pistols and, from that point, continued amassing rounds until making it 10-2.
Then, after calling a tactical pause, Gambit finally managed to break their opponents' defence with a flank from Abay "Hobbit" Khasenov in B. However, Jesper "JW" Wecksell and co. easily closed out the first half with a 12-3 lead.
Despite their disadvantage, the Kazakh squad came out strongly and managed to close the gap to 8-12. In the following round, fnatic seemed to be ready to win their first as Terrorists, but Hobbit secured it with a ninja defuse after killing two opponents.
fnatic were then able to string three rounds together to reach map point, with Dennis "dennis" Edman finding three kills in a clutch situation to grab the 15th round for his team. After losing the next three rounds, dennis closed out the map 16-12 with a 1v3 play.
On Inferno, fnatic's map choice, the Swedes managed to secure their CT pistol in a well-fought round. However, Gambit were able to win the force-buy and the subsequent two. Despite winning the following one, fnatic lost another round and had to save twice.
The Swedish team then got back to the game with four rounds in a row, breaking their opponents' economy as they reached a 6-6 stalemate. Still, after winning the anti-eco, fnatic were not able to extend their lead and lost the last two rounds of the first half.
As for the second half, it was Gambit who picked up the pistol round, but then they were caught off-guard by a force-buy. However, Gambit responded with a great eco round, which set them up for a five-round streak.
fnatic responded by winning five rounds in a row, bringing the deficit to a minimum. Then, a triple-kill from Rustem "mou" Telepov with an AWP put Gambit on map point, but fnatic took the last two rounds to force overtime.
After losing the first round of overtime, the Swedes won the following two with a triple and a quad-kill from olofmeister and Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson, respectively. Now playing as CTs, fnatic lost the first round but won the next two, locking down the map, 19-17, and the series, 2-0.
