BIG stun FaZe in Krakow

MIRAA
July 16th, 2017 18:43

BIG have pulled off the first upset of PGL Major Krakow after defeating FaZe 16-8 on Inferno.

The fifth match of the day in Krakow began with a near-perfect A execution from BIG in the pistol round, which did not pay off, however, as Aleksi "allu" Jalli and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač turned a 2v4 situation around with two kills apiece. A third-round buy from the Germans was countered by FaZe without too much trouble, paving the way for the European mixture to take a 4-0 lead.

With three clean executions in a row, BIG closed the gap to a minimum and left FaZe in a dire economical situation. The German team then restored parity at 4-4, but FaZe regained control of the match and won two rounds in a row thanks to an effective double AWP setup.

Johannes "nex" Maget turned hero in the following round and won a 1v2 clutch with only seconds left on the clock after Håvard "rain" Nygaard had left FaZe in a 5v2 situation with three quick kills in the patio. That was the start of a great run from BIG, who would win three of the next four rounds to secure a narrow 8-7 advantage.

BIG defeat FaZe in convincing fashion

BIG further added to their lead by taking the pistol round as CT thanks to a trio of headshots from Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz in a flank attempt. After winning both anti-ecos, the German team carried their momentum into the gun rounds and quickly hit 14 rounds after constantly frustrating FaZe.

Finn "karrigan" Andersen then called a timeout in an effort to halt BIG's momentum, but the German team would reach match point anyway. NiKo still gave FaZe fans some hope by winning a 1v2 clutch, but BIG locked down the map in the following round.

Why do you hate Allu so much?
2017-07-16 22:27
i dont hate him personally , i hate the fact he is overpayed to underperform and his level is not high enough to play in faze and its obvious its dragging this team down , i just hate to see it when its so obvious. i guess i just want players like niko or rain to succeed because they deserve to lift the biggest trophies and its not gonna happen when you have players like allu in your team.
2017-07-16 22:30
allu playing well, look at the stats

losing to a top17 team who uses bugs througout an entire match esportsmagasinet.dk/drama-ved-majoren-bi..
2017-07-17 14:30
and then loses to #12 afterwards...
2017-07-17 19:00
I would be pretty tilted aswell =).. And probably not pick myself up if i was the top2 team of the world and some bug abusing twats from germany came in as underdogs and used gameexploits to put me on 0-1
2017-07-17 19:02
If they're tilted from something that afterwards got allowed, then they will never be champions with such a weak mental strenght
2017-07-17 19:04
I think the weakness is to allow game exploits at a fucking major. Im not saying they should quit and give up, im just saying i understand their frustrations. Im glad you know alot about being champions and how to get to that level, hltv user.
2017-07-17 19:12
lol i'm sad that you cant figure out that it's pretty obvious that you wont have the mentality to go all the way, if that small thing in one half on one bombsite is enough for u to lose it all, hltv user.

Living up to self hyped hopes so far. PGL presentation has been commendable, the value of good interviews with IGL and analysts is huge.. hugely appreciate their attention to such things, not some guy on stage asking questions that are almost worthless ! even if they are a pretty good player its such a weak interview compared to what we got. Listening to FalleN and gob was just so fitting for such a big event, we got real insight into truly GOD tier IGL thought processes and so on. Thanks PGL you are killing it !!

Love your work mr gob brain. This team has shown good signs for a while now and steadily grown into a really nice proposition. Fundamentals show their value again, lots of rounds where tactical choices and the disciplined approach to playing as team made the round win very very likely, and a lot of those CT rounds played as expected for this style matchup. FaZe or a team like G2 win those games sometimes just hitting shots like crazy, but its simply not reliable. BIG play a truly high quality style of CS which is of course the most consistent in general. Considering teams they could get so far, I hope they get fnatic and this style matchup plays out another time.. dare say I'm favouring BIG just on initial thoughts. fnatic like FaZe made plenty of mistakes but theirs were on the CT side.. that matchup would tell a lot about where both teams are really at.. albeit a BO1 sample size I think it would tell a lot
