Astralis crush G2, to playoffs

Astralis have booked their place in the PGL Major Krakow playoffs after beating G2 16-6 on Inferno.

Despite G2 kicking off the battle for a place in the Krakow playoffs with an early 2-0 lead as Counter-Terrorists, Astralis took control of proceedings after buying up with five rounds straight.

The Frenchmen then picked up one more round and seemed ready to follow it up with another one, but a clean 1v3 clutch from Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth restored a three-round lead for his team and reset G2's economy. Back-to-back triple-kills from Richard "shox" Papillon helped G2 to reduce the deficit to 5-8, but Astralis would still claim the final two rounds of the half.

Astralis have booked their spot in the playoffs

The second half began with the Danes winning the pistol round and the next two, despite G2 attempting a third-round force buy. Down 5-13, the French team picked up their sixth round of the game with an A execution, but Astralis hit back immediately, resetting their opponents once again before eventually locking down the map, 16-6, to secure a place in the playoffs.

Expected again. Another ingameleaderless team. G2 are choking and playing that weird emo mode, losing too many duels. ScreaM was the problem xD Nah, kidding, their only problem is the IGL - shox can't do shit, he's leading and he can't build the team around his firepower. kennyS misses too many shots. NBK and bodyy have never been the difference makers. apEX has always been inconsistent, why would he change?.. Gratz Astralis, although they look shaky, it's still enough to defeat the struggling "superteam". Poor France has no IGLs at all.

Yes, the system that shox created on the current g2 with the old g2 are very much different. The old g2 was centralized around shox. He puts himself in the best possible way to get multi kills and clutch. Now, shox now creates more space for teammates such as body. The thing is, he doesnt realize that he is supposed to be the superstar himself. Its supposed to be the other way around. Kenny well, he is known to be missing on majors. With shox being in a mini "slump", kenny pretty much has to take the task and brute force their way to the playoffs and potentially the semis. If he doesnt, its game over.
2017-07-19 16:48
Old G2 was built around shox and ScreaM, and they got almost all frags, 50% shox, 50% ScreaM, and it worked well until SmithZz became really bad and RpK started struggling along with bodyy. I don't know why shox tries to play heavily skill-based style having only himself and kennyS as madfraggers, it just can't work, he either needs more complicated strats or he needs another madfragger like ScreaM. How to build a game around players that can't hit shit? xD I mean, NBK and bodyy are just OK players, nothing more, and you can't rely on apEX, because he turns on his beast mode only in 1/5 matches. shox should re-think everything, his current style doesn't fit his team at all.

The g2 players actually can hit shit, players like NBK and apex are the best that the french has to offer in their specific roles. Its just that, they are not put to good use. Their lineup is fine. The only problem they have is shox unable to put good use of these players. He needs to create a strong system which then the g2 players can fallback on and and be effective. Teamplay is key for the g2 players.

agree with you, shox told the exact same thing in a French interview - like he knows the team not gonna perform like crazy at first but with time & practice they will bring more firepower well... don't forget also g2 is one of those team that starts tourney slowly and always had a struggle in group stages!
2017-07-19 17:47
> not gonna perform like crazy at first but with time & practice They have been being together for 5.5 months already, they have finished 6 different LAN tournaments, they won ESLPL 1.5 months ago, and that was their only T1 event they showed anything good at, then they came back to something called "upper T2" or "struggling team that is T1 only on paper". How much more time do they need? And time is not what they need, they just fail to surprise their teams by strats and they fail in too many duels, meaning they have no idea what to do on maps and how exactly things should be done. They're just in the typical French slump that has never been fixed by anything but changing players. If you look at Titan/LDLC/nV/G2 history, you will understand what I mean. They always have some good period and then they become worse and worse ending up in another shuffle. They had enough time, time is not the problem, the problem is shox - he can't figure out how a team with only 1 rifle star should work. kennyS doesn't hit the majority of his shots, and that's enough for them to lose, because they have no T1 riflers to compensate for his misses, only shox, that's focused more on calling that on his own play.

I never said he was French :p Who else is he going to IGL for, a Belgian team? French CS has Ex6tenz.

He's not a French player. And yes, he did lead in the Belgian national team some years ago.
2017-07-19 17:14
France still has him as Belgium doesn't have any scene.

Astralis are a hit or miss right now, they could easily be #1 but with Dev1ce looking shaky and with the bad game against SK it is not weird at all that people thought they were going to lose. It's the same with G2 aswell.

IMT is playing very well until here. Almost beat Astralis on overpass. Even fnatic/North can upset. G2 is worrisome.

2017-07-19 16:45
They have to win their next match to access the playoffs, if not they are out.

Notice all the transnational teams are eliminated. It doesn't work for extended periods of time. Constantly shuffling to find the right combinations. In the end, teams that all speak the same native language fluidly and efficiently trump the transnational all-star teams.
