North to bench Magisk - Report
North are set to move Emil "Magisk" Reif to a backup position, according to a report from Flickshot.fr.
The decision comes just days after North were sent packing in the quarter-finals of PGL Major Krakow following a 2-0 defeat to Virtus.pro. In the tournament's Swiss stage, the Danish team defeated PENTA, mousesports and Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas's side after losing to Cloud9 in the opening round.
North have been linked with roster changes for several weeks now, following a trophyless period that stretches back to October 2016, when the team still represented dignitas.
In February, North signed Philip "aizy" Aistrup from FaZe as a replacement for Ruben "RUBINO" Villarroel, but the team's fortunes did not improve with the new player. Since going for an all-Danish squad, North have attended seven events, with their best achievement being a runners-up finish at the ESL Pro League Season 5 finals.
Emil "Magisk" Reif has been part of the Danish team since June 2016, when he was brought in to replace Jesper "TENZKI" Plougmann. He played an important role in the team's victories at WESG Europe and EPICENTER: Moscow, ending 2016 as the 14th best player of the year.
It is unclear at this point who will be replacing Magisk on the roster. Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså, who was recently released from his contract with Heroic, is a strong candidate, but North could also turn to their academy team for Daniel "mertz" Mertz, who has averaged a 1.24 Rating this year.
North's roster currently looks as follows:
Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen
René "cajunb" Borg
Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke
Philip "aizy" Aistrup
Casper "ruggah" Due (coach)
Emil "Magisk" Reif (backup)
