G2 beat North to win DH Masters Malmö

MIRAA
September 3rd, 2017 20:29

G2 Esports have won DreamHack Masters Malmö after defeating North 2-0 in the grand final of the Swedish event.

G2 came out of the gate with fire in their bellies and cruised to a 7-1 lead on the Terrorist side, immediately putting North at risk of getting blown out. With his team struggling to keep the Terrorists lineup at bay, Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke came up huge, picking up a quad kill and clutching a 1v2 later on, but as the half came to an end, the Danes found themselves trailing their opponents by seven rounds.

The French team further added to their lead by taking the pistol round with a B retake in a 3v2 situation. After losing a force buy by the skin of their teeth, North managed to find a way through the CTs with just a couple of AKs, forcing the French line-up into a save.

That was the start of a great run from the Danish team, who won six of the next seven rounds to bring the deficit to 11-14. With a triple kill, Kenny "kennyS" Schrub put G2 on map point, but Philip "aizy" Aistrup replied with a triple kill of his own to keep North in the game. However, there was no miraculous comeback for the Danes as G2 picked up the next round to take the lead in the series.

G2 win DreamHack Masters Malmö title

North were off to a great start on Cobblestone, securing a 3-0 lead after a clean pistol round. The first full gun round then went G2's way following an A push, with Richard "shox" Papillon finding two great frags in a late 2v2 situation.

G2 followed that up with two more rounds, restoring parity at 3-3, but then North tightened up their defense and went on another great run. Down 3-6, G2 called a timeout to discuss their strategy, a move that paid off as they secured three rounds in a row. A trio of kills from Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså then powered North to win their eighth round of the map before kennyS kept the deficit to a minimum with three quick AWP kills.

Now on the defensive side, G2 won the pistol round and the subsequent anti-ecos to take a 10-8 lead. North came close to winning the first full gun round, but Dan "apEX" Madesclaire came up huge and clutched a 1v2 situation for his team.

Despite having no money to work with, North wreaked havoc in G2's defense with a B push thanks to a trio of kills from k0nfig. It looked like the game would go down to the wire, but G2 immediately regained control, resetting the Danes' economy. With the money control, the Frenchmen won five rounds in a row to secure the title.

I don't even care who they replace. Astralis needs to get k0nfig, because he is too fucking good to waste his time away in North.
2017-09-04 00:23
I guess FC Copenhagen is much richer than Astralis, so k0nfig will stay in North unfortunately.

Was a good game. Was a shame it was more of north not showing up than G2 playing out of their minds. But both teams played very well over the event and can both come out of this with a win.
2017-09-03 21:56
I dont agree with the showing up part, I would honestly say that from my perspective, G2 closed down and read North pretty good. I think the experience won this match besides the aim :)

Sk were 1 map up vs G2 in quarter finals. It was the second map inferno and SK was 15-10 vs G2. Felps decided to make a banana rush call and threw that round vs G2. Eventually G2 cameback into overtime and won the map, and then following won the next map as well leading them into the semis vs NiP clips.twitch.tv/AuspiciousTsundereArtich..

You can't deny the fact that SK played terribly but G2 played it well after : you still had 4 rounds of match and some money for another buy but SK didn't make it. They lost in overtime as well on Mirage. SK could've won it on that third map but didn't. So the WHOLE win of G2 is not entirely due to felps's call.

get rid of aizy and get yourself an actual sniper, North, someone like Jugi from Heroic. get cajunb to be a hybrid/2ndary awp, not primary awp. cajunb is not working as primary awp.

all top 10 are so random. any of them can win a tournament and lose to each other. great to have not so dominant team. I dont get shock if g2 out of groups next tourney or eventually win it. this 2017 surely not any team era.

+1. I think that CS:GO became too random and too unpredictable to see which team is the best. Probably due mostly to analysts that overanalyse and the fact that there's too many competitions. But I see that Astralis comes back to choke

Gg G2, as a North fan I feel as yet again North did not show up to play, and yet again G2 played solid Counter-Strike that could beat most top tier teams. Gg boys great tourny from both and hope we can take you guys down next time in this new rivalry. :)

Based on the final match, totally deserved win by the french side. Can't stop thinking about how unfair it is for 1 team having almost no rest from playing the semis until the final though. G2 had quite a big early game advantage being mentally 100% prepared and focused, as well as being able to watch Norths semifinale match, possibly doing antistrats etc. North really did not look ready for that match at all.
2017-09-04 14:20
What? North and G2 had the same period of time to prepare for each other dumbass
2017-09-04 17:18
G2 played vs NiP at 11:00 - before the Gambit vs. North game (14:40). Dumbass.
