G2 Esports have won DreamHack Masters Malmö after defeating North 2-0 in the grand final of the Swedish event.
G2 came out of the gate with fire in their bellies and cruised to a 7-1 lead on the Terrorist side, immediately putting North at risk of getting blown out. With his team struggling to keep the Terrorists lineup at bay, Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke came up huge, picking up a quad kill and clutching a 1v2 later on, but as the half came to an end, the Danes found themselves trailing their opponents by seven rounds.
The French team further added to their lead by taking the pistol round with a B retake in a 3v2 situation. After losing a force buy by the skin of their teeth, North managed to find a way through the CTs with just a couple of AKs, forcing the French line-up into a save.
That was the start of a great run from the Danish team, who won six of the next seven rounds to bring the deficit to 11-14. With a triple kill, Kenny "kennyS" Schrub put G2 on map point, but Philip "aizy" Aistrup replied with a triple kill of his own to keep North in the game. However, there was no miraculous comeback for the Danes as G2 picked up the next round to take the lead in the series.
North were off to a great start on Cobblestone, securing a 3-0 lead after a clean pistol round. The first full gun round then went G2's way following an A push, with Richard "shox" Papillon finding two great frags in a late 2v2 situation.
G2 followed that up with two more rounds, restoring parity at 3-3, but then North tightened up their defense and went on another great run. Down 3-6, G2 called a timeout to discuss their strategy, a move that paid off as they secured three rounds in a row. A trio of kills from Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså then powered North to win their eighth round of the map before kennyS kept the deficit to a minimum with three quick AWP kills.
Now on the defensive side, G2 won the pistol round and the subsequent anti-ecos to take a 10-8 lead. North came close to winning the first full gun round, but Dan "apEX" Madesclaire came up huge and clutched a 1v2 situation for his team.
Despite having no money to work with, North wreaked havoc in G2's defense with a B push thanks to a trio of kills from k0nfig. It looked like the game would go down to the wire, but G2 immediately regained control, resetting the Danes' economy. With the money control, the Frenchmen won five rounds in a row to secure the title.
