Groups, format, and initial matchups for ESL One NY revealed

The groups, format and first matchups for ESL One New York 2017 have been announced.

The $250,000 tournament will take place from September 15-17 in New York, USA where eight team will be in attendance.

The event will begin with two groups of four teams. The group stage will have a GSL format with opening and winners' matches being played as best-of-ones. The elimination and decider games will be best-of-threes.

GuardiaN's FaZe will be in Group B

After the top two teams from each group advance, the single-elimination playoffs will kick off. The semi-final will be a best-of-three game and the grand final will be a best-of-five.

Good to see both DreamHack and ESL going back to the classic GSL format with the change of bo1 to bo3 regarding elimination matches.

-1, what dreamhack did was better. better to play the winners matches bo3 instead of the elim matches. who gives a shit if some crap team gets knocked out after two maps. (buhhbye VP/NV)

Tournament format is better than Dreamhack as less time are wasted on winners matches and offers greater satisfaction to losing teams that attended the event. And the Grand Final is like a heavyweight boxing match or D-Day for Private Ryan.

Here's what I WANT, not what I think. Group A nV- Since it's my favorite team, even though they have low chance despite the 16-3 they got vs SK a while back. SK- I don't like Na'Vi at all. Group B Liquid- Because I'm going to the event and want an NA team on stage. VP- I went to Eleague major and cheered hard for them in the finals only to watch them lose to Astralis so closely.

Team A plays Team B Team B plays Team C simultaneously on 2nd computer Team Z plays Team 4 Team 4 automatically disqualified Team A switches to play against Team Z at half time David Hasselhoff subs in for bottom fragger of Team 4, still doesn't get to play because Team 4 is disqualified Team A and Team Z match winner goes to Major and replaces Virtus.Pro Team B and C match winner goes to finals Team 4 appeals to disqualification. Honest - Group 1 #1 SK #2 Natus Vincere #3 EnVyUs #4 Cloud 9 #1 Astralis #2 Virtus.Pro #3 FaZe Clan #4 Team Liquid Reasoning Group one might not be as straight forward, depending on what Team EnVyUs we get. If we get the qualifying envy, I can see them WINNING the group. Cloud 9 are hopeless. Going from my favorite team to one of the worst moves I've seen recently, they will finish last. Group two, I dont know what it is. FaZe team is nuts, they Just dont play well? I see nothing big coming out of this FaZe team even though the huge potential. I think VP will follow their trend, 1 awful tournament and then either a second or first place finish, dont count them out, they could top that group easily. Liquid could put in some good performances , jdm and elige are immense players. They're down but not out.

VP to bottom out of their group, SK no brainer to finals (otherwise no.1 in the world is a meme), Na'Vi out in quarters (simple hard carry), Faze will play ok but semi's max (map pool is a mess), Ast is hard to predict atm but they are due for a deep run, sleeper pick/ dark horse: Liquid
