Liquid have become the first grand finalists at ESL One New York 2017 after defeating SK 2-1 (22-18 on Inferno, 5-16 on Overpass, and 16-14 on Cobblestone).
Second day action in the Big Apple kicked off with the best-of-three semi-final series between Liquid and SK. The North American squad started Inferno on the CT-side and picked up the pistol round victory after Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz got a double kill with Dual Berettas.
In the second round, Nick "nitr0" Cannella got a triple kill to make it 2-0. Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski & company also secured the first weapon round but SK responded in the following one with Epitacio "TACO" de Melo's triple kill (4-1). That wasn't the start of a streak for SK as Liquid extended their lead to 5-1. Liquid were 11-4 ahead after the first half.
Marcelo "coldzera" David won the second half pistol round with a quad kill and SK won the anti-ecos to close the gap (11-7). nitr0 had two entry kills in the first weapon round to halt SK's comeback progress. coldzera showed up in the following round with an ace (12-8). The map went to overtime after Liquid failed to win consecutive rounds on the T-side (15-15).
EliGE and nitr0 clutched a 2vs4 in the first round of overtime. Liquid also won the third round to lead 17-16 at halftime in overtime. The tie couldn't be broken after the second half in overtime (18-18). Liquid closed the map out in the second overtime, winning 22-18.
The story on Overpass was different as the T-sided Brazilians won eight of the first nine rounds (8-1). Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo & company had an 11-4 at halftime. coldzera's triple kill in the pistol round on the defensive side gave SK their twelfth round and they won the map 16-5.
The last and deciding map of the series was Cobblestone where Liquid started on the CT-side. Josh "jdm64" Marzano's team won the pistol round but SK replied with a force buy victory (1-1). After the sides exchanged round once more, Liquid started a streak that lasted three rounds (5-2).
The score before the last round of the first half was 7-7 and Liquid won the last round with inferior equipment. The Brazilians won the first three rounds in the second half to take the lead but Liquid hit back, winning the first weapon round to trail 9-10.
Liquid ran away with the game as SK's defense collapsed and the North Americans acquired four match points. Liquid won the map 16-14 and series 2-1, advancing to the grand final at ESL One New York 2017.
