VITALIS sign for SuperJymy

Finnish baseball (Pesäpallo) club SuperJymy have announced that they have expanded into esports with the signing of the team known as VITALIS.

The Finnish team, who are currently 83rd in the world, most notably finished fourth in ESEA Premier 25, missing out on a spot at the ESEA Global Challenge after losing to Kinguin in the third-place decider.

With 18 national titles to their name, SuperJymy are one of the most successful clubs competing in Superpesis, the top flight of Pesäpallo, widely known as Finnish baseball.

SuperJymy land the team known as VITALIS

In a statement, SuperJymy CEO Mikko Kuosmanen indicated that this is just the club's "first step" in esports, adding that they plan to "expand the business" to other games in the future.

Team member Joonas "aune" Rantala believes that SuperJymy's venture into esports "will help Finnish esports to grow", and set his sights on reaching the top 30 in the ranking.

"Our goal is to be top 1 team in Finland and climb up the hltv.org rankings up to top 30," aune stated.

"Of course it will need a lot from us, but we have a great team spirit, and I do not see any barriers on that road."

Meanwhile, it was announced that the team is currently trying out 29-year-old Elden "KIPSIk" Evert, formerly of FR34KSHOW and SkitLite, as coach.

SJ have the following line-up:

Finland Tony "arvid" Niemelä
Finland Verneri "BONA" Junkala
Finland Lasse "ZOREE" Uronen
Finland Jani "Aerial" Jussila
Finland Joonas "aune" Rantala

Finland Elden "KIPSIk" Evert (coach)

all nonamers except ZOREE and BONA
2017-10-27 18:25
Still Aerial > Bona & Zoree so... Ottond & Aerial used to carry them , the moment Otto left Vitalis became trash , losing versus other finnish nonamers (Aerial droppin 40kills and still losing the game in single map without overtime)

It's just the truth, it's quite a different sport compared to the American version which is commonly referred to as baseball. :)

I know, but it just sounds funny that out of all teams it is Sotkamon Jymy that hops into eSports.
2017-10-29 12:19
Can agree, albeit it's not surprising considering what the projections for e-sports in the future are market-wise and they're not the first sports club in Finland to embrace e-sports. :P

Finnish Baseball as a whole is a noname-thing. As an example, I wouldn't be able to name you one Danish Baseball team, since no one gives a fuck about that boring as piece of shit sport. I'm 99 % sure it's the same in Finland. On the other side, I would be able to write down 20+ Finnish Football-clubs and a couple of hockey teams (and I don't follow that sport either). Would you be able to tell me one Danish Badminton-club without looking it up?
2017-10-28 00:45
Finnish Baseball is our national sport so I think a lot people find it a cool sport. =D=D

It's Sotkamon Jymy, the CS team is called SuperJymy.

the company is called SuperJymy, and it's their official name.
2017-10-27 20:20
Yeah the company is SuperJymy but the article mentioned SuperJymy as the club. The club which expanded to e-sports is Sotkamon Jymy and they placed the CS squad under the limited company SuperJymy.

I say that's pretty damaging for the csgo scene. A 'nobody cares' sport signs a tier9 (if that's a thing) team, well, that shouldn't be on hltv.org. Again, I'm not kidding "finnish baseball" sounds something like "north korean mahogany furniture salesman for average people", can't really believe it exists, and pretty sure nobody cares about it.
2017-10-27 21:24
It is very traditional sport in finland since long time. OFC no one outside finland cares about it tho xd.
2017-10-27 21:26
You're completely right, it's idiotic and obsolete. It's a very small group of people even in Finland who care about it, but they compensate by being freakin' die-hard. But it's certainly not damaging for the CS:GO scene. If anything, it's a sign of major future potential and a courageous step from the team. Back in the day, the only sponsors in eSports were companies directly related to the scene. More sponsors means more money, so again, it's certainly not damaging for the scene, on the contrary it's a really good thing as long as it's a sign of things to come, not just a one-off.

I say it's damaging because it's sounds like a joke. We have million dollar tournaments, if you say that to a tennis enthusiast for example, it's sounds a solid thing. But try to convince an older, dunno, spanish, british or dutch (non-finnish) man to see an esport game, where one of the team is signed by a finnish baseball team. Say it out loud.

I think you should keep using the top teams anyways if you want to convince somebody outside Finland. It's not damaging if a lower tier team gets sponsored by a more local sports club. There's a reason why it's Vitalis here and not SK for example.

Well, that pretty much sums up why it shouldn't be on hltv, as it's a global site.

"It's a global site" indeed. There's news about smaller and unknown teams from all over the world all the time. Things about Spanish teams, cis teams, Southern Brazilian teams, Australian teams etc. You don't have to read the stuff that doesn't interest you. Just check the flag and ignore.

2017-10-29 16:04
What the hell is the point of this? This not anyway related to finnish baseball, and Jymy doesn't get much exposure out of this, since no one outside Finland follows the league. So why would they sponson a team?!?
2017-10-27 22:28
they seem to be getting to esports in general, not sure how much it makes sense tho, they need their teams to do well I guess or it will be fail, doubt massive amount of money is invested in this anyway xd.
