Renegades, Virtus.pro, HellRaisers grab wins in Shanghai

Renegades, Virtus.pro, and HellRaisers picked up wins in the first round of groups at SL i-League Invitational Shanghai, defeating HAVU, Flash, and TyLoo, respectively.

After TYLOO versus HellRaisers got postponed due to Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand suffering an allergic reaction, the second match of the day saw HAVU take on Renegades in Group B.

The Finnish side, who are playing their international debut in Shanghai, made a valiant effort in the best-of-three series which began on Overpass. Renegades picked up an 8-7 half as Terrorists and stabilized after a back-and-forth beginning to the second half, locking down map one 16-12, with Keith "NAF" Markovic and Aaron "AZR" Ward leading the way with 27 kills apiece.

NAF pulled Renegades through a tough series against HAVU

On Mirage, HAVU grabbed eight rounds on the offense and topped it off with a pistol round victory as CT, gaining an economic advantage in the following couple of rounds. However, Renegades fought back and took the match to overtime.

Several close clutch situations later, including a 1v3 from 15-year-old Jere "sergej" Salo who had been playing lights out up to that point, Justin "jks" Savage & co. secured the 2-0 win in the series.

Virtus.pro and Flash were up next with the other match of Group B's initial round. Defying all expectations, the Chinese stomped Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas's team on map one, Cache, 16-4 following a dominant Counter-Terrorist side. Mirage then went the distance, with Flash holding the Poles till overtime, where Virtus.pro swept their opponents 4-0.

Snax carried Virtus.pro on Mirage to avoid a disaster early in Shanghai

Cobblestone began with a streaky first half, with the Poles running away with the better scoreline by the slightest of margins on the offense. Once the sides switched, the match was in the hands of Virtus.pro, who only conceded one round on their way to match point. Flash held on for several more rounds thanks to clutches from KunHua "LOVEYY" Bai, but Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski's squad closed things out in the end at 16-13, 2-1.

Meanwhile, the postponed match between TYLOO and HellRaisers, who are attending the tournament with Patrik "Zero" Žúdel standing in for Özgür "woxic" Eker, took place off-stream.

The Chinese squad grabbed Cobblestone with relative ease, 16-8, before HellRaisers equalized the series on Mirage after coming back from an 8-13 deficit with eight rounds in a row on the defense. The European roster carried the momentum over to map three, Nuke, and grabbed the 2-1 victory after a 16-6 sweep.
