Misfits squeeze past CLG; claim Main Qualifier spot

Misfits have claimed the first Main Qualifier spot at the Americas Minor after edging CLG in a tight series 2-1 (Cobblestone 16-13, Overpass 14-16, Mirage 16-14).

The winners bracket final for one of the spots at the Main Qualifier began on CLG's choice, Cobblestone, where Kenneth "koosta" Suen kicked things off with a quad-kill to go up 3-0. It wasn't until 6-1 when Misfits were able to string rounds together and avoid getting reset, as they went on a three-round run. Once Stephen "reltuC" Cutler got a double entry in the 11th round, CLG regained control of the half and only conceded one more round before switching over to the defense at 10-5.

Hunter "SicK" Mims's triple in the second pistol allowed Misfits to start climbing back, and a quick B execute in the first gunround saw Sean "seang@res" Gares's side equalize the scoreline at 10 apiece. CLG clinched the following round with a solid defense on A, but the economy reset came in afterward and Misfits reached their 14th round. With a close retake on B as well as a 1v2 clutch from reltuC CLG closed the gap to 13-14, but a B execute from their opponents sent them on a poor forcebuy and Misfits grabbed map one.

Misfits claim Main Qualifier spot after a narrow three-mapper

On their own pick, Overpass, Misfits got off to a flying start off of François "AmaNEk" Delaunay's four kills in the pistol round. Unable to find the right defense for their opponents' executes, CLG found themselves down 1-8, but two B retakes finally worked out for them as they picked up five more rounds before the half came to a close at 9-6 in favor of Misfits.

The situation was flipped at the beginning of the second half, as CLG went on a streak of six rounds for a 12-9 lead. Like their opponents in the first half, Misfits were able to stabilize and equalize the scoreline at 13-13, with seang@res pulling off a triple-kill in a crucial round that helped his team avoid an economic reset. Instead, CLG were forced on a poor buy after the next two rounds were exchanged, but a 1v2 win from Ricardo "Rickeh" Mulholland and a subsequent B execute made the difference to force the decider, Mirage.

Starting on the Terrorist side, CLG picked up the first four rounds and continued to rack up the lead despite losing the next. Ethan "Ethan" Arnold's 1v2 gave his team their seventh round and koosta stepping up to the plate with three kills in a 2v3 scenario pushed the score to 10-1. A 1v1 clutch from AmaNEk broke the streak and Misfits finally recovered, switching sides with four rounds to their name.

David "devoduvek" Dobrosavljevic and company stayed alive despite losing the following pistol round, as a few pick-offs in the next forcebuy gave them a way back into the match. A triple-kill by Ethan in the first full buy pushed CLG to 13, but a quick reset allowed Misfits to close the gap further. seang@res then clutched a tide-turning 1v2 to even things out at 13-13, and a fantastic ace from Shahzeb "ShahZaM" Khan gave them their first lead. The next two rounds were split, which sent CLG on low economy, and Misfits finished off the tight series at 16-14 to claim the first Main Qualifier spot.

Misfits looked great, always love watching GODG@res play, expecting another Immortals like run
2017-11-05 02:50
+1 after they sent LG home I've been cheering for them to get as far as they can. And I also believe they can make it to the major
2017-11-05 02:55
I find that hard to believe if liquid qualify, because If that happens, there are pretty much 2 possible spots to fight for to get in the major
2017-11-05 03:43
Misfits deliver better on LAN than most of the other challenger/underdog teams. I still bealieve they have some pretty good chances. They will be hyped up and focused and will manage to do it Have faith in SeanGod

Didn't see the match. But ahat happend? Strategies by seangares? Or just frenchies carrying?
2017-11-05 09:01
I still think devoduvek sucks but amenek is pretty good, and Sean is coming up with good tactics
2017-11-05 18:59
A mix of both, think how the fuck is shazam able to be on a top tier team, seangares one of the best NA igls
2017-11-08 18:10
SpaceS is a tier 1 team in your opinion? I think xantares is the turkish niko :P
2017-11-05 14:49
True he played insane, even if he is not top fragger, he's the one with the impact frags. Carrying SpaceS to Offline Qualifier. But I don't see them making it to the Major, there are some pretty strong teams already waiting in the OQ.

Flair? You mean with the logo at the left of my name? I’ve met a few people with that. I’ve been following them since French roster change and their great run at DH Tours.

The main qualifier isn't going to be very stacked this time. Easy for Faze and G2. Hope Liquid and NV/Optic make it as well.

undeserved regional minoer when half or ur team is from another continent like renegades in asia wit na players
2017-11-05 12:16
Well 2/5 of their team is from another continent, but 3/5 comes from NA. As they are bigger in numbers, they still deserve it. Of course, like with koreans on LoL, it’s a bit cheating. But it’s still accepted.

Yes, you too? I mean, I left at 12-4, thinking it was over, but couldn’t sleep because of the match, so I came back, saw 13-9 then watched till they won ^^ I was trembling, literally, as it came down to clutches and such hahaha Ça fait plaisir de voir AmaNEk et devoduvek se qualifier pour le Major qualifier :> en espérant qu’on choppe les stickers ensuite

Oui j'aurais été désespéré de les voir perdre 11-4 puis 12-4 après la perte du pistol round sur la 3ème carte. Content que tu ais pu voir leur victoire jusqu'au bout, j'ai raté ça moi. Happy you could have seen their winning moment, missed that unfortunately, would have been worth staying up, especially after a thriller third map.

LAN > Online. Rise Nation 3-1 online at the qualifier went full trash when it mattered. Misfits stepped up when it really mattered. EDIT : Rise Nation went 3-1 not 3-0 at the Minor's online qualifier, but still they beat Misfits 16-2 on Nuke and got destroyed on LAN by Misfits during that said Minor.
